I just made a big big mistake... On my shield on Frugdar, I mythal'd it with a flawless mythal thinking I read on the mythal page that it would give 5/+5 DR... It only gives 5/+4 DR, which is significantly worse. It's a flawless mythal, and I misread the page and my friend who was helping me craft didn't realize it either ;_; can I just get the enchantment removed and my flawless given back? I know the answer is almost certainly "no, tough luck", but I figured I'd ask. Screeny of the log when it happened like 10 minutes or less ago: http://prntscr.com/4n5h4tScreeny of the shield: http://prntscr.com/4n5hhi

Assuming Frug is still pretty Barbarous, I'm afraid it gets worse than that; the DR from Barb levels, I'm guessing it'll be 3/-, won't stack with +x/X damage resistance, so you'll only get a further two points even from enemies that do have low enough enhance.

I read on the wiki here http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_reduction and from other players that it does stack though, unless I'm wrong? Either way I still am crying over lost milk mythal EDIT: No, I just tested it... It doesn't stack.... I am super depressed...

No I don't think it does.
Should not be hard to test, just look at the combat log after something attacks you with the shield on and post what it says.

yeah, I just tested it... No joy.
This is the worst mistake ever D: that was one of the mythals I traded my Tome of Mystra for, too.

Frugdar isn't that bright, so this makes sense.

Umm, the way i understand it, a +5/5 and -/3 should not exactly stack, but be applied one after another. I'm almost 100% positive, and while i don't recall how it works, i often wear eg. -/5 slashing gear along with Stoneskin for more DR. Check again? Wiki wrote: Damage reduction stacks with, and is applied after, both damage resistance and damage immunity. (So a creature with damage reduction 10/+5 and bludgeoning resistance 20/- will ignore the first 30 points of damage from each bludgeoning attack made with less than a +5 enhancement.)

I am a fanboy of Epic DR characters, and while I often really wish they stacked, with my retired Balance Bovine hat on, it's a very good thing that they don't.
Apart from the characters with the feat-granted DR, just about everything I run wears a PvM gearset with 5/- Slash/Pierce/Blunt as well as whatever +y/Y their levels allow them to wear, so starting off with Ghostly potion or a Lesser Mythalled +1/5 and finishing off with either the Vestment of Faith or the Perfect Mythal's +5/5. So yep, you remember correctly and your characters were getting the full benefit of Stoneskin on top of the type-specific reduction items.
The feat-granted DR was evidently implemented as +21/x rather than [Slash, Pierce and Blunt]/x so my DwD and CON-jockeys all wear the S/P/B stuff, and also the percentage reduction kit, but don't bother with the +5/5 etc.
What I've never bothered investigating fully is whether incoming flak chews through Stoneskin more slowly when you've got 9/- DR.

From the wording of the wiki, the reduction applies after resistance so it may be in favor of maintaining Stoneskin for longer, but only if the resistance lowers the damage below the 10 damage threshold (i.e. you'd take no damage).
Oh and while we're on the topic, can't find any damn slash res items, it's frustrating - any hints? I know where a cloak is, but it's unreachable unless i ask a drow... Ehh.

The Declaw shield and Enkidu full plate have 5/- Slash and Pierce on it and are sold to Hilrash pretty frequently. I also see a robe with 5/- Slash sold there too, and then there's the Aurumvorax leathers in Pinky's Pawns.
Usually I start out with the Gatorskin Cloak, which is on sale in a small town very close to a tanner that loves to work with said reptilian hide.
Or if you murder every halforc in that vicinity, their boss will have a helm with Fire and Slash DR too, which I see sufficiently often in Hilrash that I've not had to wade through hthe place that often.

Swordman's belt has Slash resist too. But...listening to Slash makes you cool, but there's no guarantee of cold resist there.

Oh, and there's boots with -5 Reflex, -5DEX and 10/- Bluntie too, I forget which loot bin. I assume it's still an exploit to block the DEX drain, but the fullplating WM or DwD contingent must look at 8DEX and not really be bothered. I must admit I've not done that myself, since the only place I can think of with just Blunt damage also has a tonne of Sunbeam spam.

I have almost nothing to speak of in this discussion since I don't normally have much experience with DR other than drinking stoneskin and ghostly visage potions on Frugdar, but I'd like everyone to know that a DM's said I can have my mythal back (when I can find a DM online that has time to spare... Haven't been able to lately.)
Although I am curious, if you had a dwarven defender with epic dodge, 20 levels of DD, all the epic damage reduction feats, and his entire gearset was made with nothing but regeneration gear, and a vampiric regenerating weapon....
Would he -ever- die, except to magic?

There are plenty of non-magical traps that could take that bitch out like last week's garbage. I know because I used them!

No, no I have not, but Frugdar's run through the gauntlet with no gear on except for his sword like... 4 times now. Does that count? Frugdar has the dexterity and reflex saves of a boiled potato. And no evasion or other feats. Though he does have uncanny dodge 5 or so...

I've played an Epic Dodging, Epic Damage Reduct Three-ing Rogue16/DwD10/Ftr4, Misterlich.
The trouble is his AB and non-Sneak damage output were so poor that he would be whittled to death by humble x20 creature weapon criticals with disappointing frequency when alone.
