First off, nothing is perfect, but this thread is about reasons why Amia is the best thing since sliced bread so no negativity! 1. It's a world that belongs to all of us. In all my time with NWN (since release day, oh so many years ago) and cruising too many servers, I have never ever ran into a server so pliable, so mutable, so malleable as Amia. While the hardware and code certainly belongs to the staff, I have seen the world itself been molded and sculpted by players to great degrees in my time here. It takes a great deal of generosity to pour so much effort into designing and creating a world and setting and then signing off on it when a player comes along and requests "I'd like to change that!" 2. It's whatever you want it to be. Amia encompasses all styles, conforms to none, and yet rewards all. If you feel like logging in and sitting in a city portraying a serious character and having deep roleplay for 6 hours, you can do that. Even better, you'll probably end up walking away with a DC or two for it. On the other hand, if you've had a horrible day at work and want to sit down and steamroll monsters into red paste til you feel better, you can do that too and nobody will critique you. 3. I've never seen staff like this. Pure Amians who have never played elsewhere are spoiled. They don't realize how good they have it. You go out there and cruise around the big net of persistent worlds and you'll almost never see a DM online, much less one interacting with players in a matter other than punishing rulebreakers. Be appreciative when an NPC comes to life in front of you or when the world starts acting as a player on its own stage. Realize that these are people who are gaining nothing for themselves from trying to entertain you. They are taking their time up to tell you a story, sell you a thing, or give you a chance to shine. I realize that these things are why Amia is so much better than WoW, Evercrack, UO, and other NWN servers and for that I will always be thankful for it and the people who make it that. |

All of the above are true. Plus the ability to meet pretty cool people on here. Here's to hoping it never goes away. Only complaint I have is I don't have as much time to play as I use to. |

I played a few other servers, but only for a short time...because I found Amia, and I haven't gone back to anything else. Amia is great because, well...it's already been said. Everything said before me is true. |

#1 have been found on other RP servers over the years, especially on Arelith (and to a lesser degree servers such as Brynjeport, Three Kingdoms, Anphillia), where for example there's dynamic player crafted placeables in every area saved on server reset (a bit like UO). Amia and Arelith are otherwise very similar (and not only in this regard) in terms of portraying the persistent world's history through areas changing as per player driven RP. Everything pales in comparison with the Amian Dream Coin system though, which lends almost endless RP possibilities to the playerbase. Was a great experience returning here to find my old character's home, the Arcane Tower, in ruins, and the same with Wyrmhold. I love that these and similar areas have stayed in the module. #2 and #3 are definitely Amian culture high points. |

The freedom has pros and cons, though, as with all things. So if you're not particularly fond of wings and tails, surface Drow, good-aligned monster races or players who write only in party chat as they do nothing but run from encounter to encounter etc., you will have to close your eyes to some things once in a while. But if that is the price for less rigid systems of control it can be argued quite convincingly to be worth it. |

Easy to get into and find players to rp or kill monsters with thanks to the party advisor (which is great when you don't play enough to know everyone on the server) Doesn't take ages to level and gear up your character as it does on a lot of other rp servers which means it's fun to make new characters and not be forced to stick with one if you want to reach "end game". So less time investment probably the biggest pro for me as I'm rather impatient when it comes to gaming. but then there's a lot of other fun like changes to classes etc, nice rp depths when it comes to faction and story progress. Crafting and dc requests is also really cool and the rather big player base which makes the wide range of factions and plots going on possible! Had a lot of fun and perhaps even life altering experiences here, looking forward to coming back at some point, whenever that will be

Exactly one of the biggest, if not THE biggest con. Ten thousand epic nobodies is never a good thing. Period. More time and effort you have to put in your character means more respect and appreciation for your character as the time goes by. The fact you can say "Meh... *insert random pretext to create another character*" and be on level 30 with epic gear in one, two weeks (and there are some pros who can do it even sooner) is just absurd. I have a lot of respect for people who stick with their main character and maybe one alt - and funny thing is they are often the best RPers I had the chance to play with, which only confirms my point. |

Of course, because only no lifers and mentally unstable individuals are putting the effort into their characters. Cool guys have ten or twelve lvl 30 epic boss grinders with no reputation nor story behind. (But buildwise they fuckin' ROCKS!)

You're right. Just one last thing to think about - you have praise topics made by people who play on Amia for some time, sure. Criticism, constructive or otherwise, made by newcommers or veterans, is not taken often with much love, on contrary is rewarded by snarky comments. So no suprise that together with praise topics there are also topics like "Why are players leaving" and "How to get more players". |

Aw, but one of the best things about Amia is that every thread gets bogged down into bickering. If we all agreed it'd be like those other servers people mention with Conformity Or Ban. The flaw in your argument, Last_Helmite, is the Cool Guys(your words) are just as unemployed and OCD-ridden as the people you approve of. Thus, time to epic is not a filter for the kind of people you want to have around. |

Sometimes I wonder how much of a looser I am for playing Amia as much as I do. When I started, I thought most players on Amia were losers, but then I became one. Bah, fun is never a waste of time. Having a shitty job is for losers. We can choose to spend our life how we want, instead of society telling us that videogames are bad and you need to work a crap job and buy more stuff. Is this an excuse for me to deal with a 'problem'? I honestly don't think so. Other players who play more than I do may have a 'problem', but I can't judge them, or assuming anything. Life is a balancing act, and time is probably the most valuable commodity. We get to spend it as we wish. |

I for one think Amia provides a safe environment for argumentation and even confrontation, although my personal deportment wouldn't be nearly as subtle weren't it for the rules as well as the practice of Nazism under the guise of patronisation (joke, add smiley here). Which is probably a good thing. And really, why does it have to be a cause of bitching that Amia can cater to a comprehensive clientele, so that I can come PvP everyone to death with my überloot? |

I sort of grew up on this server. The people I've known the longest I met when I was in the 8th grade and most of them weren't that much older. Now a lot of them are big grown up adults with spouses and we still talk! It's great. Probably why I've been here for... oh god. almost 10 years. And the server is incredibly dynamic- always evolving and changing. Every time I leave for a little while and come back everything is so different, it's awesome. I'm pretty sure there's never gonna be another place with the quality of RP. The newer games just do not foster it.
