I'm pretty sure it's not, but I'd rather ask just to be safe: One of my characters has a bunch of Str boosting items- I should probably replace a few with Con boosts, but that's beside the point... I have the Str-based version of the Pearl of the Desert. Since my Str bonus is maxed out with it on, what I'll do is use it to cast Bull's Strength, then replace it with another ring. Is using it for Bull's Strength like this legal? I could see the characters doing the same thing- putting on a ring, activating it, then switching it out. But I want to make sure that, lore-wise, the spell doesn't dissipate when the ring is removed, in which case I'm unintentionally metagaming. |

Totally fine to do that! The key to remember here is that the ring is granting your character with the use of the spell, not adding direct strength bonus. So, Pearl of the Desert gives you the ability to use the ring to cast Bull's Strength on yourself. That spell remains regardless of wearing the ring, the ring is only used to cast it. Compare that to the Ring of the Mountain Giants, which gives +2 Strength whilst wearing this. The +2 bonus would only be upon your character as he wears the ring, and wouldn't persist after you remove the ring. |

Yeah, the ring isn't keeping the spell on you, it's casting the same spell a mage would cast, and then you just take the ring off - the magic is still there because it's a spell, not a persistent effect like a Ring of Giant Strength would be. As well, even if somehow this were incorrect (which it's not), every person on the server does this with several items. You won't get in trouble for it at all. |
