A small question, i realized while playing a druid is... i seem to have more fun out of ANYTHING that i love playing an animal, while shifters might help this idea, i feel i would have more fun bound to a single form...

My question: is it possible to play as an awakened animal, say a dire wolf or something? If yes: how many DC's would you guess it would take?

No, that falls into the range of 'Never Approved'.

Saddening.. that would have been really fun.

Alternatively, you could play a shifter who aspires to be, or believes he is a Dire Wolf. As a person, he'd retain his own mind, etc, (more intelligent than an awakened animal in most cases!), and also choose to spend all of his time as a Dire Wolf.

You could still get the same/similar fun from a concept like this?

There's no reason that you'd get in trouble for what I suggested. A character might desire to be something else. In real life we have men who desire to be women, or who believe that they were a woman born in a man's body. In the FR world, surely it could be conceivable that a shifter who is able to turn into other things (such as a Dire Wolf), they might think of themselves as a Dire Wolf who was born into a human's body?

i was thinking maybe one of those wolf only shiters of selune.. erm.. fayrei i THINK its spelled..?

The DM team is actually coming up with something that will be making this more evident, and a little clearer. Not just for this race, but for a number of others.

She has a good point. First thing that happens every morning as soon as Rashad steps out of his lavatory clutching Andrew's daily newsletter, he sets out to the woods and starts enchanting every tree he can just like every good wizard should! Yeah, Paws was a lvl30 monk. RL buddy of mine. ^_^ I think another friend of mine played a stag as an animal. But these were very old characters, wouldn't work now.

I also looked at the race lists, and animals are in fact in the Dm approved list...

You can spend quite a lof of your time RPing as your animal familiar, I think. For animal companions, the f_say commands at least help somewhat. That might already scratch that furry itch ... ;)

But I'd also go with the "but I really am a woooolf" (or want to be a wolf) druid or shifter. Especially shifters can be, afaik, just shifters and ignore most of their druid obligations if they don't use the non-shifting druid abilities either. (DMs might shout at me for this, I'm not sure, let's see how the thread develops.) You simply lose 5 levels ...
