can anyone tell me how polymorph items, stats override/merge? apr and bab in regards to polymorphed? the bab and apr is based on the base class before casting or using scroll correct?

is there anyway to make this work with a build like 20 barb 10 wiz to buff and polymorph?

or palemaster with zombie form using touch attacks?

any merit?

Your attacks per round transfer over. The Highest Stat (yours or the forms) is used.

Polymorph "works" but is not ideal. Shifters and Druids get the good shapes.

For Polymorph Self and Shapechange, none of your item properties transfer over as well. Equipment, nor weapons.

A barb who can cast a few spells might be cool, but polymorph really isn't going to help you out there. By the time you're mid to max level, the current Polymorh forms make you a sitting duck, because you end up throwing away all your Saves and AC. Shapechange is a little better, but that is only because most of the shapes have tons of temporary HP. Even then, your saves and AC will be heart-breaking.

That isn't to say not to do it. If you have an idea and RP worked out, why not give it a shot. Most people would suggest Barb and Sorc make a more thematic pairing, but a noble warrior-scholar might be neat. Just be aware you cannot cast spells while Raging. But you can enter Rage while in a different shape, I believe.

If you really are looking for a sort of wild, rage-er-riffic shapechanger, Druid/Barbarian may indeed be a more function route to go. Shifter gives you better shapes as well, that hold onto most of your equipment stats when you shift.

how exactly would a barb be able to learn spells, they can barely read to begin with, it is something they have to learn as they level, and wizardry takes "reading" to a whole new level.

I suggest you go with the barb/bard or barb/sorc, it fits the barbarian culture way better, but ultimately it is up to you ofcause.

Barbarians are many kinds of people, which is why they are a base class. I don't think the bersererks of Rashemen would take to you calling them stupid.

The mastery of barbarian rage could be something as methodical and intellectually intense as learning all the ninth circle incantations. Anybody can get pissed off, but barbarians can take it to a whole new philosophical, spiritual, intellectual and artistic level should they choose to view it in that light. I can see how a character equally dedicated to mastering the weave and mastering the madness would be fun to play as, maybe even taking their pursuits with some kind of monk-like dedication. Both masteries requiring great efforts of will, but in completely different ways and with totally different results.

That does sound hilariously unlikely, but luckily a Poly Self based build is such utter junk mechanically that I don't see the point of getting grumpy about it.

Much better to be a halfling/gnome Barb24/Ftr4/Rogue2 twohandering a club and occasionally busting out a scroll of Poly for the lulz.
