If you have a custom portrait for your character that you want all your Amian friends to see, send them my way. How? See below! (If you're just looking for the current portrait pack, scroll to the bottom of the post for the download links. The portrait files go into the override folder, and the portrait files you are using to make a new character with go into the "portrait" folder- you may have to make the folder yourself if your main NWN folder lacks one.) ============================================== HOW TO MAKE YOUR PORTRAIT ============================================== If you have an image but have no idea how to make it into a NWN portrait, check the following link: http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB2/viewtop ... 335#685335============================================== IMPORTANT NOTES ============================================== For the convenience of Leto, please write your portrait filenames in all lowercase letters with an underscore separating the name from the portrait size (ex: "portrait_H" instead of "PortraitH"). This will help ensure everyone is on the same page when it comes to portrait changes. The name of the file cannot have more than 13 letters before the suffix"_h/l/m/s/t". If the name of the file is bigger than that, you will not be able to see your portrait: it will be showing as a blank square. Give or take a few days, updates shall happen at the first day of each month. Send the files in ZIP or RAR format, not as individual TGA files. Please! I need you to make the subject field of the email as follows: [Amia] Portrait of CharacterName, so I can organize a list with the names of the characters included. Portraits can be added to the Override folder if wished, instead of the Portrait folder. If you do this, you will see portraits, but will be unable to select them when you create a character. This can be handy, as a large portrait folder can cause NWN to crash when creating a character. Some people also express distaste over using "someone else's" portrait, but there is nothing the DMs can do about this: they will not enforce portraits. If you have an issue with someone else using your portrait, please take it up with that player and settle it civilly, but also understand they are not obligated to change their portrait If you have a portrait in the pack but don't want to make it available anymore, PM me, so I can remove it as soon as possible. Someone else could have sent it on your behalf, if you did not send to me yourself. If you are certain that you sent me your portrait, but it's not showing on the list (TXT file or Pack), send a PM to inform me. It certainly was not left out on purpose. I will update as soon as time allows, updating links and etc as needed. Also unlike Dahlya, I won't be watermarking images. We all use the same internet, so another person may find the same image you use anyway! If you wish to add your own watermark, you may do so, and I will still add your portrait to the pack. This also goes without saying, but portrait images should be work safe for the most part. Cleavage is fine, fully exposed breasts are not. Please use sound judgment when it comes to this: If complaints are made on your portrait, it will likely be removed and replaced, probably with some generic NWN image. My apologies, but I have absolutely no photoshop skills, so if you'd like an image to be edited, you will have to seek out a more capable person. There may be members of the Amia community able and willing to do picture edits, if you ask around. Best of luck! ============================================== HOW TO CONVERT A PORTRAIT ============================================== How to Make Your PortraitNWN Site wrote: Creating A Custom Portrait
Step 1. Using an image editor of your choice that supports the Targa (.tga) format, create a new blank image 256 x 512 pixels in dimension. Example software includes Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro.
Only the top portion of the image is displayed in the game, so that the actual size of your portrait is 256 x 400 pixels. The bottom portion of the image MUST be blank and unused. If it is not blank, your computer will light on fire and explode when you try to save your game -- er, well, or it might just crash.
Areas of the image:
canvas is the entire image portrait is the area used by the game blank is the unused area (but required) You can also download the sample portrait I created, shown left. (This portrait is meant to be humorous, and should inspire you to do better!) You will need WinZip to unzip this portrait. If you view my sample portrait in your image editor, you will see it has the blank area described above. Remember, if you don't leave this area blank, you will experience crashes when you try to save your game.
Step 2. Create your custom portrait, whatever it may be, in the 'portrait' area. Remember, even though the total size of the canvas is 256 x 512 pixels, only use the top 256 x 400 pixels as diagrammed above for the portrait itself.
Step 3. Now you need to create five versions of the portrait for the game to use. You have already created the largest version, so you can just resize it to make each of the four other smaller versions.
The dimensions of the five versions needed are:
256x400 (on a 256x512 canvas) - used for the Player Character Bio 128x200 (on a 128x256 canvas) - used for the character sheet 64x100 (on a 64x128 canvas) - used for the in-game portrait 32x50 (on a 32x64 canvas) - used for the party members and radial menu 16x25 (on a 16x32 canvas) - used for the chat thumbnail
Step 4. You must save the images as Targa (.tga) files, (selecting the '24 bits' and 'uncompressed' options of your software). Compressed Targa files will not work in NWN. The filenames for the five versions must follow this pattern:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh.tga (for the 256x512 canvas) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl.tga (for the 128x256 canvas) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm.tga (for the 64x128 canvas) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs.tga (for the 32x64 canvas) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxt.tga (for the 16x32 canvas)
Where the prefix "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is a name you create, is 1 to 15 characters in length, and the same for all five versions.
The 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't' that follows the prefix indicates the size of the image (Huge, Large, Medium, Small, and Tiny).
So for my sample portrait, I created these five images:
robinsample_h.tga robinsample_l.tga robinsample_m.tga robinsample_s.tga robinsample_t.tga
As you can see, my images all have the same prefix of "robinsample_" (since it is 12 characters in total, it follows the rule of being between 1 to 15 characters), and I also have each of the five versions - 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't'.
Once you have either created your portrait, or downloaded one, you can use it in the game. OrTormakSaber wrote: Place the jpeg or etc of the file you'd like made into a portrait, unto your portrait folder, no converting needed. If this looks all pretty and the DM team is okay with such, I'd like to request this thread stickied in place of the last one.
For everyone who has been holding onto their portraits since the last pack was uploaded: please begin emailing me your pics (according to the above guidelines). Ideally, I'd like to upload the next pack tomorrow, since it's the beginning of March. However, since that is way too short a notice, I will give everyone a week to send me your pics so that I may create March's Full/Add-On pack by the end of it.

Okay, I'm gonna work with you on this because it seems your past attempts to get your portrait in the pack have failed horrendously. I don't have an email from you, Dead. Have you sent it yet? EDIT: Also, anyone who has sent their portrait zip to P-Three and hasn't had it uploaded to the most current pack I have posted, PLEASE email it to me ASAP so I can see yours into the next add-on/full pack.

One last day to send me your portraits before I upload the next pack!
EDIT: I will be uploading this in the morning EST; morning being like 12:30 PM probably. So, again, last call!

Alright! New portrait packs are up, and so far the links look fine. Go ahead and get them while they're hot, and let me know if anything breaks.
Because I uploaded this one a week late into the month, I will be waiting until the beginning of next month to do another portrait upload, rather than upload again in the middle, as I said above.
EDIT: I found an issue with the filenames some folks sent me. From what I've seen and have been told, there needs to be an underscore between the actual name of the file and the letter denoting its size/placement (h/l/m/s/t), else I think there will be an issue with the portrait change.
To better illustrate what I mean, here's an example:
YES: robinsample_h.tga robinsample_l.tga robinsample_m.tga robinsample_s.tga robinsample_t.tga
NO: robinsampleh.tga robinsamplel.tga robinsamplem.tga robinsamples.tga robinsamplet.tga
I'll go and fix the filenames, rezip, and reupload. I took my current link down until then. (nevermind this part, had a misunderstanding, just read below before making your portrait change request.)
EDIT EDIT: I have uploaded the new packs PROPERLY this time. I have not changed your filenames save for the addition of an underscore. When you go to make your portrait change, just copy the file names of your portrait from the add-on pack. Sorry for the confusion, and enjoy!

Corby you do NOT need an underscore, the only thing you need is to make sure that if you are changing your portrait that you request it exactly as you spelled it.
So if you named them using the robinsampleh.tga style then you must request robinsampleh.tga If you used robinsample_h.tga style then you must request robinsample_h.tga
The underscore itself will NOT determine if it works or not, however if you have change the names like you did corby then if somebody already created a new character using the non underscored name then you basically broke their portrait in terms of anyone else being able to see it and made it so that they will now need to request a portrait change.
In short DO NOT add or remove underscores from people's portrait names.

Someone told me before that they had an issue getting their portrait working due to lack of an underscore. If this is not the case, then I'll remove what I posted above.
Luckily, these portraits are all for preexisting characters looking to make portrait change requests already, so the addition of an underscore I made to the filenames shouldn't break their portraits. But thanks for the information- I was worried that these ones wouldn't work due to the filenames.

The underscore is a nice thing to use but in terms of the actual functionally it doesn't make a difference.
And it is a relief to hear all he current ones are all for portrait changes anyway since it shouldn't be too much of an issue then, and you shouldn't need to change them back then as long as the players know so that they can update their requests.
Just figured I would let you know since I myself often times forgo the underscore and use the portraits before I get them in the pack and in a case like that if the name gets changed you can go a LONG time before realizing that no one else can see it.

To forgo any more confusion, I won't change them back, but I'll leave the filenames alone in the future. Thanks much for catching this for me when you did, though.

Yeah, the underscore only matters inasmuch that if there IS an underscore, you have to remember to include it.

Yeah, I should fix that. I haven't gotten enough portraits emailed to me since I've started to justify doing this twice a month. So I'm doing this once a month. I'll be uploading what I've been sent on June 1st. No worries!

I'm going to have to update this a bit earlier than normal this month. I'll be uploading on Aug 25th instead of Sep 1st because I will likely be losing internet access for a while, from Aug 26th to who-knows-when.
Sorry for the short notice, but please try to get your portraits to me by the 25th if you have them and want them in the next pack.

There is RLE box when you save *.tga file in PS - that goes for Run-length encoding - if you check it, the image will be partially compressed. So to have it uncompressed just make sure it is unchecked while saving image. On the other hand, you can just save your file in *.jpg, and use NWN internal converter to make proper portraits set.

I'm using an older version of Photoshop because I don't like extra features I don't use, but there isn't a RLE checkbox. I'm not sure how I did this before, and I don't know how to run it through nwn to have it do the work for me. No rush or anything, but if someone can tell me how to use nwn for portraits, I'll be happy.

Getting an error message. I don't have a folder simply named 'Portraits', so I don't know if that's a problem. Should I rename this folder or what? I'm also assuming the file I should use for this is the larger size and without the white space at the bottom (256x400).

Just make a folder in NWN directory then, and name it "portraits". Then put your file with right proportions (without empty space under it) into that folder, and name however you like ("yourcharacternamehere.jpg" for example). Then launch the game and open console by pressing "~" button which is located in the upper right corner of your keyboard, and type "C" (capital C) in the command line that will appear there, then press "Tab" button. It will turn into "ConvertPortrait" line, then type your portrait file name without extension (for "yourcharacternamehere.jpg" it will be just "yourcharacternamehere"). Then, when it say it is done (almost instantly). Just get back into your "portraits" folder, and you will notice five new tga files in there (named after "yourcharacternamehere_H, yourcharacternamehere_L, and so on). Now archive them and send to DireCorby's e-mail so he will be so kind to add them to his portrait pack next month.
P.S. If it is still too hard, just send me original picture for portrait via PM, and I will send you back archived file with converted version of it.

My PC broke a couple days ago, and I ordered a new one yesterday. I should have it by Dec 1, so I should be able to resume managing the portrait pack around then. So no worries, keep 'em coming!

Looks like this is going to take longer than expected, as the arrival date was moved from the 1st to the 4th, and moved yet again to whatever time. Eventually I'll have a working box with access to the portrait files, hopefully by the end of the week >:( Sorry for the wait folks. Edit: apparently the computer is now being made, so... progress. Edit edit: I have the new computer but it is also broken, go figure.. so now I'm working on getting that one replaced. -_- Sorry, folks, just a little more patience. Edit x3: Old PC is up and running (for now ) so I'm working on getting the pack out ASAP.

The files for Cassandra Earhart's portrait seem to be in the pack, but they don't seem to be showing up in-game.
