Hello everyone! Im the new kid on the block, I would like to thank you all for the experience I have had since the 13 hours of being in Amia. A special thank you to the DM's for being so helpful. Now I got that done out of the way I want to discuss what I feel & maybe suggest a few things. Since I entered Amia I have come across world rich of different personalities, Races and quests which have made me improve and have doubled the enjoyment I had originally with NWN back in 2005/6ish. However I have read through posts on these forums and checked the wiki out and with greatest respects it seems to be a bit different to the world I have experienced. Let me make this quick. - "Good" Vs "Evil" - I have noticed there are a LOT of good aligned characters in the world, not that this is bad of course, I have also viewed "New evil" or "Bane" posts which seems to suggest a lot of evil aligned characters out there and the promise of the rise of evil forces that would consume the good, However those posts are from January and my experience I come across one "banite" and a few dodgy looking characters which is didn't know about which Is great! The reason why I am writing here is because I would like people to be conscious (like other posts mentioned) that evil in itself can manifest behind the scenes and potentially corrupt "good" characters perhaps. In addition to this I will quickly add that the RP from good characters that I witnessed are top notch! Amazing! One example Is that my character was walking with his sword and shield out and and my char described a "yellow eyed sun freak" chased me down and presented me with the guards badge in which I had to withdraw my weapons. Brilliant stuff. So for "good" vs "evil" I wanted to boost its profile because everybody loves a fairytale story or a nightmarish ending don't they? -Factions-I have read a lot on the player made wiki and the official site of different factions, It seems to be that there seems to be a lack of presence from them within my experience of amia (I have travelled to almost every location). Now I know that most factions are secretive and cannot come out and say "we zhentarim are going to time stop you all and feed you to my balor" Totally understand that from a RP. However it would be nice to see those different "active" factions that want to shape amia to their liking. -Racial Tensions- The reason why I mentioned this is that I enjoyed a RP of "water genasi" describing the fears of a "fire genasi" and "air genasi" which was played brilliantly! I know the knowledge myself of the recial hatred between elf and drow, but do conflicts still continue? Is there raiding parties to underport that battle for the honor of their race? -Conclusion-This is the first time I have played NWN multiplayer and it is a world completely on its own. Both thanks to the illustrative characters in it and the masterful DM's. There is so much more I could discuss but I think I will play amia more for the experiences and enjoy the world as it is. I will continue to put more posts up from a newbie point of view and I want to thank you all who I have come across doing RP's with (you know who you are). & DM's keep doing what you are doing, Brilliant work! It would be nice to hear the views of seasoned amians about the topics I highlighted from more a recent POV, Until next time hope to see you IC Bhaals Favoured.

Thanks for the feedback! We're glad you're having a Bhaalin' time and hope you stick around. Word of advice, though? Thirteen hours might not be enough to take in the full Amian experience. Give it about another month or so and then check in with your assessments.

Heya! -"Good" Vs "Evil"-You raise a lot of good points, but I'm going to save this thread becoming a duplicate of this thread and many others. I'll simply refer to Yossarin's point, in 13 hours you wouldn't encounter many Evils mainly due to the fact most Evil characters do not stand outside Bendir/Cordor (Well, a few in Cordor) so easily, you'll need to explore the region and find their lairs and bases. I suggest reading that thread as it outlines some of the issues we've been having with GvE and also what good points we've been having. -Factions-Quote: However it would be nice to see those different "active" factions that want to shape amia to their liking. They do. They honestly do. I mean I can not explain how impossible it is NOT not shape Amia. Whether it's by other players or DMs, your faction (whether established such as a settlement or a newly found one) will continue to shape and influence Amia. This is, again, a fact you won't see in 13 hours naturally. Trust me, you will soon look back on this section and realise this is already happening and has been for a good while now. -Racial Tensions-Racial tensions are present throughout the server. Be it Elves vs. Drow (Which have had some conflict as of late!) or basically anything vs. anything. Playing three characters that are deemed as races/character types that would be deemed subject to tension or even fights (Earth Genasi, Earth Genasi Green Dragon Disciple and a Gnoll) I can tell you that I've had everything from quiet slurs to a lynch mob outside of Kampo's wanting me dead for simply existing. While most factions have their reasons for not going to all-out war, there are a lot of covert wars being fought as we type. -ConclusionYour view is valued and the server benefits from critique on how it functions. But again, 13 hours won't get you: -Immersed in to character -Immersed in to the setting -Experiencing wars or long-term setting-shaping factions. A lot of your questions and concerned simply can't be answered with 13 hours experience, this is not a "Join and suddenly you're commander of a huge battalion" server, this is a server that is never-ending and the stories continue to evolve and grow, with each player influencing it in some way.

Hello Kamina! Of course in the small time I have been on I wudnt expect a "be all and end all perspective" definitely! This post is more of less of a diary in greatest respects, Haha I will look at this post in a few months time and not recognise it was me probably! Spot on the feedback I was looking for too!

Howdy! And welcome to the server-- Big thanks for the feedback. This kind of stuff is always appreciated, by the players and DM's alike.
The Good vs Evil stuff has been a hot topic of late. I can say, however, that factions are largely dying out-- Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Two or three years ago, this server had an absolute ton of well-stocked factions. Now, I would say, the focus is more on the character than the group they associate with.
There are still factions, but they're generally much smaller. You're looking at maybe 4-5 members, and usually they're an active group of a settlement. So what you'll see, instead of factional warfare, are a plethora of alliances and political maneuvering. Or a few generally unattached characters coming up with neat personal goals that affect a broad number of players.

Agreeing with Hackums on this one. There are still some major factions but largely they are NPC ran or are made up of nearly retired PCs that only come around for some grand event. None of this is a bad thing though because we all know that large factions are difficult for an active PC to actually 'run'. The smaller variety of so many 'allegiances' is far more prevailant on the server and work ..ahh... cohesively for the most part. It is interesting to be one of the 'outsiders' that can move among these several smaller groups and perhaps affect them all. In the event that something large happens, there is the distinct possibility that a couple smaller groups will join forces for the time being to fight against another allegiance of smaller groups. Then after that is done, all is back to behind the scenes maneuvering. This all seems a bit ... 'anti-climatic'... to some, particularly new players, but it really can be one of the most rewarding experiences when one has become completely immersed into the setting and plot. The eventual success (or failure) of all the planning is the ultimate goal. As a semi-veteran player (currently on leave), I would suggest delving into the bowels of the server if you want to see for yourself what is meant by all of this. Amia is a game of chess. The most freakin awesome match I have ever played. The fact that there are threads about all of this and so much tensions even between players, just proves my point. We are invested and as much as everyone hates to admit it, what happens IG affects us OOCly because it is part of our lives. Yes, it is just a game but (and some may think this pathetic), it is escape for many of us and we become our characters. Living in a fantasy world that we work and scheme and have relationships in. Welcome to Amia, please don't feed the penguins MOD

How do you find leveling to be? Good/bad? Why?

You mention the good vs. evil, but what about the neutral? Don't assume what you see, is necessarily good or evil. The factions are alive and kicking, dunno what was meant by NPC run, or retired characters, but I see them doing just fine, if a bit slow. Give it time, like was suggested, and you will see what the server has to offer. There is lots of good RP to be had, and lots of different flavors of it to sample.

Even if there's a lot to uncover, we've got to admit the alignment conflict is not very central to Amia's current stories. This ties in with the smaller emphasis on factions Hackums noted. There are few clear blocs to ally with unambiguously. I like it that way, personally. It adds a lot more depth and believability to the RP. The world isn't about good, evil, order and chaos. It's about people with their own motives and agendas. My character's alignment gives me no easy answers to how he should react to the different parties and what the right answer to each issue is. Furthermore, none of the big players - cities mostly, but some factions too - are clearly good, evil or neutral.
Say you intend to be loyal to Cordor; it's hard to tell what that even means anymore, let alone what the good or lawful thing to do is. Or maybe you're sick of the corruption and greed and choose to side yourself with the paladins of the Holy City; does that also make you a supporter of externally imposed monarchy? How will you balance Tarkuul's claims to humanitarian motives, the history and lore is safeguards, and its necromantic nature?
Good, evil, law and chaos just don't begin to explain or solve the moral dilemmas our characters will face on Amia. The focus is more on politics, diplomacy and intrigue right now. I think that's awesome. For fans of high adventure and epic clashing of darkness and light, it might be disappointing. It's not a static state of affairs, but something to be aware of nonetheless.

There's still all the inexplicable demonic voodoo and somesuch for those interested in the juxtaposition of fairy-tale kismet good and evil. And favouring that never makes you any more obtuse than the people who enjoy stumbling into a net of carefully wrought personalities, emerging nothing short of telenovela. I don't mean to mock, just reminding that black and white can be totally fashionable as well.
Oh, and welcome!

A brilliant reply from all of you! It has really made me think on the world itself.
I also have to say that every single person I have come across has done amazing RP and it really starts to immerse your own self with your player!
From the serious Lathander priests and guards enforcing laws, to the cheeky water genasi and cloth inspecting "tarich" which I gave him a severed head as "cloth". I even heard conversation of "drow moon orgys"...lets not go there.
All of you are amazing and I never thought in my time of PC gaming I would come across camaderie and variety of different personalities that really makes this world unique,
I will keep all the topics in mind and will post up in a months time to give all of you a perspective of what it is like for the newb being immersed into the world!
Thank you all & Taste the rainbow.

I am really happy to read such words. It's good to see you are really getting into roleplaying, and enjoying such. It is a great hobby, and almost a miraculous thing that we can play it online, at any time, with just as passionate people as we are. I hope that you have a great time amongst us, and enjoy your stay.
Hopefully meeting you IC soon! (:

I am going to assume you are the same one who approached me IC. You asked who was evil and how to contact them... i have put together a list of individuals who are evil and can probably help you out. Contact me IC today and i will refer you to them. Do not share this info with anyone else though... we dont want the filthy paladins knowing who to lynch and where to find them.
