When first I saw the Alchemy merchant selling flesh corpses while with my Kelemvorite toon, I was thinking of smite the NPC. How to ICly deal with it ?

You cannot smite a PC or NPC who is not evil. As far as I understand, if you attempt to smite a non-evil creature, you get auto-fall from your deity.

That being said, in both modern and medieval setting it is not unheard of that corpses are preserved and used in medicine, and buried later, once their purpose is fully served. So I guess that it is not a sin to preserve a corpse for a few more days until it serves the medicinal purposes for the greater good. But also on the same note, they should not be sold in alchemy stores.

If you want to interact with the NPCs in such a fashion, you'll need to ask a DM to assist.

I would like to ask for a DM confirmation on this.

I am Not really an expert in regards of paladin, but the description says nothing alike, or Even suggests it:

Once per day, a paladin may attempt to smite evil with one normal melee attack. She adds her Charisma bonus (if any) to her attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per paladin level. If the paladin accidentally smites a creature that is not evil, the smite has no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day.

At 5th level, and at every five levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: The Paladin, to a maximum of five times per day at 20th level.

The only consequence mentioned is that the use is wasted and has zero effect.

Hookay, it might be outdated but I'm pretty sure in a paladin v blackguard thread 2 years ago or such some DM wrote that.

That can't be true, because it can happen accidentally. The book doesn't say you get an auto-fall for failing to use smite evil correctly, merely that it won't give you the bonus damage if they're not actually evil. Take, for instance, if you tried to smite a rogue who wasn't actually evil - it just wouldn't work, even though you may have been entirely justified in hitting them (you were defending yourself or some such). You could get a fall for hitting someone for an unjust reason, but that's not the same thing.

o.O I didn't mean he would smite him like that, lol. That was a joke, for God sake. He's not a barbarian !

He would arrest and pyre him.

The point is, wouldn't be an issue someone trading fresh corpses so openly ? And sure thing I would like to RP with that NPC. Focus on here forget about smiting someone randomly.

In medieval times, using corpses for study was forbidden and charged with High punishment. Yet they were sold so medicine could progress, especially in times of the plague. They just were sold quietly and on special demand.

We have no rule for the Job System Traders. I personally would however say they likely do not have the "questionable" wares out on public display but rather sell them on special request when asked and more secretly.

Perhaps some influence or persuade check about the "special offer today", like we have around regarding others NPCs ?

You could just assume that the merchant would refrain from selling dead bodies to righteous paladins. No need to make extra work for other people when you can sort it out IC yourself. Besides, even if they did implement that, what's to stop a paladin saying

"Hey Jeff, got any dead bodies on sale today?" [Persuade skill high enough to fart persuasively and get what he wants]
"As always, my frien-... oh shi-"*don't need a god's smiting bonus when your righteous bastard sword of justice can crit like a three ton tank*

True. But if he finds out someone bought a flesh corpse from him you better find another NPC because that one will be placed over a pyre. :D Thanks for your inputs, I can live with that.

Honestly I almost view the NPC Job System Merchants as an OOC mechanic more than an IC one, or at least borderline. There needs to be something IG that can buy the job system items from PCs for more than the 1gp that you'd get in store or whatever, hence the merchants.

And ya... even if it is an IC thing, there's no way in hell anyone would be stupid enough to show a member of the Eternal Order that they secretly sell corpses, so such a character would have no way of attaining that knowledge in the first place. If he doesn't know they sell corpses in the first place, the Persuasion becomes moot.

I don't think there's really anything for you to work with here, myself.
