Just curious how exactly they work in NWN. Is it like every other skill where you always roll a d20 and add your skill to it? If so, how often is the roll made? Because on that theory, there'd be a 5% chance to spot someone no matter their spot every blank seconds. Anyway, if someone could give me deets, I'd appreciate it =D |

Try this post: Compiled Shadowdancer Information Thread and then use ctrl+F to search for the phrase " Stealth mode is the state " to skip directly to the section about Stealth & Detection. I don't know if that's stuff you already know, but it's all I've got to offer! There used to be more information available on the mechanics of Stealth/Detection, but when Bioware's site changed, a lot of the forum links were either moved or removed. What is included in that thread is all that remains (that I know of) compiled from the vanished threads I managed to save, and from the NWN wiki. |

It's shameless "hey, other answers you might be looking for may also be in there and I already wrote it up so someone may as well use it ._. " more like! As for Listen, I don't really know. (I mean, you hear them like you hear an invisible person standing nearby, but beyond that...) I tend to think the same, though years ago I once had someone swear to me that Listen was on par or better. But unhelpfully, I don't recall their reasoning. Possibly because there are less factors of time of day that can make some in stealth more difficult to spot, but not necessarily more difficult to hear...? |

Listen: +10 DC if the listener is in combat. +5 DC if the target is standing still. -5 DC if the listener is standing still. +1 DC for every 3 meters between listener and target. Size modifiers (tiny: +8, small: +4, medium: 0, large: -4, huge: -8). +5 DC for every 40cm of object (including creatures) between listener and target in outdoor areas. +2 DC in indoor areas if the line of sight is blocked and the target is within 4 tiles. Area listen check modifiers. Spot: +10 DC if the spotter is in combat. +5 DC if the target is standing still. -5 DC if the spotter is standing still. Size modifiers (tiny: +8, small: +4, medium: 0, large: -4, huge: -8). Area spot check modifiers. +5 DC for stealthed players (only), if they are in the back arc. +5 DC at night if the spotter does not have a light (or darkvision). -10 DC at night if the target has a light on them. Listen gets many, many more penalties that accrue much quicker than spot. Further, you only get a translucent render on a successful listen check. |

Yeah, I don't really now what the benefit to Listen over Spot was supposed to be, given how clear the difference is. |

"+ to Listen DC if target isn't in line of sight" "+ to Listen DC if target is small" I need to not read these threads. Can someone make me a "NWN!!" caption on a Captain Kirk "Khaaaaaan!!" picture? |

Why would it be implausible for a small creature to make less noise? |
