So assuming all parties involved in the RP agree to their use, what is the accepted Amian consensus for opposite rolls?

Basically what opposes Bluff and Persuade (apart from the obvious going against alignment/interest/preservation)?

Also, does anyone have experience with using Pick Pocket as Sleight of Hand mainly for legerdemain (hand tricks)? If so how to deal with the penalty to PP imposed by the trinket (assuming the PC never uses PP to actually lift stuff without RP)? Just assume all "legerdemain" rolls (card tricks, vanishing items, displacement) ignore the -50?

Lastly, assuming a PC has Perform as a skill, can this roll be added to Job System item descriptions to indicate the quality of drawings/patchwork/carvings worked on the item?

Lots of questions here =) Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Generally, assuming all parties agree, Listen is used to oppose Persuade or Bluff.

The next question is more dependent on the situation and those involved. I don't think anyone would have a problem with ignoring the -50 for a "sleight of hand" roll if it's just for a trick like you give in your example.

You're free to put whatever you want in the description of Job System goods. "// Perform Roll: 38" added at the end could give a nice idea of the quality of the work. But again, it depends on your taste. No one's gonna harp on you for it if you do it!

Why would persuade only be used against NPCs? It is a perfectly legitimate personality trait to use in RP.

That being said, I've used Will save in the past to roll against Persuade. But I have no idea if that is right.

Spot also works against bluff if the opponent doesnt have their face covered.

Persuade imho shlould be decided by the opposing player how easily/hard their character can be persuaded highly dependant on the RP the persuader provides along with the Roll.

But yes, only if both agree and no DM interferes and says otherwise

Cheers for all the help =)

I mostly worry about those skills being used in the tradicional PnP sense than what the (sometimes) poor name suggests. So Persuade/Bluff working for a legerdemain/ventriloquist to solidify their Sleight of Hand/Perform tricks, as opposed to "lying" and "convincing" others.

Anyways, the replies so far have been helpful, thank you all again.

My opinions on social skills in PC to PC interactions are summed up by the majority in those two threads and at least a half dozen others on this subject. The nature of the skills as they exist in PnP and single-player NWN doesn't translate well to Amia at all. If you're going to persuade my character, your character needs to be persuasive in what they say and do, not what they roll.

And so you maintain the freedom to decline using social rolls as a tool for Rp, Beanie. I think this topic is about asking what rolls to make if all parties are willing!

Wow, thanks for the links. Enlightening at least. Social Skills = Bee Hive. Going for WYSIWYG here then.

Thanks again all =)

Persuade is for use against NPCs only. As is intimidate (to a degree.) It's entirely up to the player in question whether or not they are influenced by social skills that are geared toward working against NPCs.
