Well...2 to 1 right now...heh...

Sune...you da man...I thought you (and all) would love the comment of 2 new players that Artum went in with against his better judgement....man I hate when I am right about things like this...

I asked them if they though 2 level 23s and a level 21 with our summons could take the Spires.

Sure..no problem.

Are you sure? I was in there with two level 23s and three 21s and my summon and we were having some hard times.

Nah, we got this.

So we buff and prepare...three powerful summons...we are glowing like fireworks in the sky...

We ready?

Ready as we can be.

We step in and within seconds, all of us are face down....

Those are FIRE ELEMENTALS NOW? I thought they were decorations!

Yeah, they decorated us all over the walls in burnt orange.....

HEHEHEH

This is in NO WAY a complaint about the Dark Spires and is in every way a happy post about the changes. I think the Spires as they are currently balanced are perfect myself.

I just thought I would share the fact that the changes in appearance of the Fire Elementals is spot on.

Decorations indeed...hello...dey are da movink ahn dat bashing and burnink of yer buttocks!

heheheh

CLERIC!

Oh wait...ah...yeah....

Hello..um...god?

Say for a seeming decrease in XP and the annoying bit that the, though cool looking fire elementals, look the same dead I haven't noticed much change in difficulty really. Perhaps the builds I have simply aren't of the type to be effected to much by the changes. Perhaps increasing the hardless a bit more to encourage parties a bit more.
Oh! And more fire traps. I love those even when they do strike home at times, just love seeing those bridge go up in flame as I trigger trap after trap.

If your running through with a level 30 you probably won't find it much harder no.

yeah as a level 30 i saw no difference... but my 22 druid sure did... she can do it but it takes a lot of her resources.

I am a bit confused as to why the difficulty has increased and the experienced has either remained the same or decreased. It seems a bit counter-intuitive. However, I am enjoying the challenge -- immensely.

Because it was always meant to be challenging. But after 5+ years of people running the thing, it lost all its challenge.

Is it possible to upgrade the King/Queen as well? Seems the spires themselves are harder than the actual bosses..

They're easy because we -all- know we need to cast *censored* take care of *censored* while doing *censored* and avoiding *censored*....

I wouldn't suggest making them -harder-, rather making them -different-.

I think the balance thing has to be well thought out and not made -harder- just for the sake of being -hard-.
I've had a few characters who can barely defeat the Fire Giant King as is... ( monk )

Thats what I mean, I think 'upgrade' was a poor choice of a word on my behalf. I remember taking a whole fifteen minutes in battle against the King, but now it's somewhere like less than five minutes, which doesn't seem very 'boss-like' to me, imo.

Would be pretty neat if the royals randomly changed tactics (and stats, feats and spells?) between a few options, and the only way to identify them was to see them in action. That would require several versions of the same bosses and there's no reason to stop with the giants though, so it might not be worth it. I imagine there are other ways to make boss fights more interesting that the devs have thought of. (Though I'm not sure if there should be any more incentive to farm bosses.)

Personally, what I would like to see is 4 sets of King/Queen spawns and one of the 4 is triggered.

Each being different in skills and effects but all looking the same.

For instance, King and Queen can each have 4 base types.

Fighter, Cleric, Mage, Rogue.

Fighter spawn could be a Barbarian. Cleric could be a cleric or druid base, Mage is wizard or sorc, Rogue is Rogue or Assassin.

So lets say you go these 4..

Fighter means Barbarian build.

Cleric means Cleric build.

Mage is Wizard.

Rogue is Assassin.

Then things get changed up greatly. You can't be sure what you are facing class wise.

Toss in 2 additional Fire Giants with the King and Queen as "Royal Guards" and not the end encounter is on par with the overall difficulty in the spire now.

I like that idea, of not knowing what you're going up against.

Not spoiling anything, but discussing this is silly because we already have plans.

Didn't know. Thought the idea was nice for the reason mentioned above.

That little heart shot of adrenaline wondering what the draw is and what you are going up against is nerve wrackingly fun.
