Okay, things are moving forward with the faction...so...

Some questions are coming to my mind...asking player opinions here...

1) It will take time to get a forum faction here, if it ever happens....should I get a forum outside these?

If so, what is a good simple canned prehosted one?

2) Anyone know any good ways to organize things?

For example a freeware software that would do this or just good old MSWord and MSExcel?

3) Any other recommendations OOCly on how to get this herd of cats managed better and to keep track of plots, plans, progress...

I'd recommend MSN, PM's...that sort of thing instead of a separate forum. I've seen folks try to organize via outside forums (I've been part of them, too) and it turns out to be one more place to have to visit, and winds up forgotten. Usually it's bumping at first, then goes off topic, then people stop posting altogether no matter how good the intention is.

The factions I've seen be the most successful here have done 80% of their organizing in game, the rest have all utilized MSN and PM's. Eventually, they have a forum.

I agree with Lally. The former Grove Council (when such still existed) had a seperate forum which was never used. Honestly I even forgot the link myself and never logged in there for years now and I am the faction leader *coughs*

As for the rest... one hint on organizing... give a very specific timeframe where you ask if people have time for something.

In my own experience... saying "please say when you have time" ends with "I try to be there!" and won't get you anywhere. XD

Also try to make small events fitting to whatever you try to pull off there. You don't need a DM always to make some interesting things like offering classes, training and the like.

And lastly, it won't always work but try to give the people something to do to keep their interest up. A common goal is nice but people want entertainment on the way.

Use the old version of MSN before it was embedded into everything, I think it was like the 2009 version or something. Its always worked well for me and I hid the updates for it so it never bothers me again!

I was going to suggest you use an old one too, but Athyonn beat me.

I'm using an even older version though, version 8 - back when everything was NEAT. MSN (sorry, "Windows Live Messenger, haharr) actually refuses to let you use pre-14 unless you hack the version number and change it so that it thinks it's up to date, but I'm too lazy to explain how that works (google should suffice!)

MSN is really the only good way to reach me anyways. This usually doesn't matter, me being a hermit.
