If a cleric takes an alignment domain while not being of that alignment, does he still gain the full benefits of that domain on Amia?

Pretty sure yes. If you are an alignment your deity allows, you can pick "good" when being neutral aligned. It would not make sense if they didn't work for you, and there would probably have been several threads about it by now.  A neutral person can admire and strive for the aspect of -good- that the divinity "preaches" I would think. _________________

I can confirm you can be a neutral and pick a good/evil domain.
I have a domain GOOD on my CN cleric because CN is an allowable alignment for his god.

My question is: Why would a neutral character have the Good domain? It seems to me that it would not be something they might comprehend, so how could they command it?
And, before you say it is the god that has the domain not the character, I'll answer that. A character chooses the two domains of their god that the character most closely associates with. So, again, how would a -NEUTRAL- aligned character have a -GOOD- domain?
It makes no sense to me.

Well, you have to also remember that while they are Neutral, Neutral chars gravitate towards Good and helping Good (since it's preferable to side with Good over Evil despite their person actions/beliefs). So they can fully understand and grasp the Good domain, in my opinion.
Granted, by that reasoning so can Evil, but it would make absolutely no sense (plus Evil is so far opposed to Good it just doesn't work that way).

That's rationalizing. Neutral characters don't inherently gravitate towards good. Some do. Some just haven't fully committed to evil. And others just don't give a damn.
If it were up to me, you'd have to be Good to take the Good domain, Evil to take the Evil domain, and so on. Simply because it's silly not to.

That's a good point in itself, I can't argue that. I hadn't thought of it that way. Of course, they can be climbing the cosmological morality scale, as well as staying in the middle or sliding down it, so it's something to think on.
Course, wouldn't we need an Neutral domain to make it fair? That would make sense, too.

Neutrality isn't much of a force, just because, as said by Derk, it "doesn't give a damn" to make an actual effort. It's more concerned about maintaining status quo, or just keeping to itself. Plus neutral guys have the bonus of easily communicating across both sides of the fence. Added: not to mention immunities to most smites and certain protection spells.

My tiefling is neutral because she has a strong belief in maintaining balance. That's why all druids are neutral as well, so it isn't just a 'don't give a damn' position, it's flexible enough to describe a lot of different positions.
As for making a neutral character with the good domain, that wouldn't get a pass by core rules, which is why I'm asking if it's the same on Amia.
