I was wondering if anybody has advice for me. I am playing a fighter/cleric of Eilistraee. Since I have read about that church a lot oog, I know that her clerics are always dancing, are to promote musicians/bards and are expected to learn one of the Dark Lady's favored instruments. Reading the job system, I thought I would like to have her be a minstrel to capture some of that flavor. So, when I was in Cordor, I went ahead and added 2 ranks in the job, figuring I would pick up the ranks in perform when I leveled next. Then, when I finally leveled, it said I would not take ranks in perform.

What can I do to benefit from this job? Or did I just screw up and buy ranks in a job I will never be able to use?

You screwed up, basically.

The Performer option is the generic equivalent of the bard-specific Minstrel job. You can perhaps request your jobs to be reset once (dunno if it's still available), and in any case spend your next points in Performer.

Thanks. I will have to go reread minstrel. I didn't see anywhere that only bards could do it. bummer.

NB: You need to be able to use Perform for this job.

You start your performance by singing within range of a Minstrel Instructor. You will get a message that the show has started.
You end the performance by singing again after at least 5 minutes.

You get to roll for XP for people that have been within hearing range during that time.

Unless you intend to take any bard levels you won't be able to take any ranks in the perform skill. In that case I would advice making a post in the request forum to reset your job log. Explanation needed of course.

Ok. Thanks for the help. I did not realize that perform was a bard only skill. I have mostly played pnp version of the game where you can learn almost any skill as a cross class skill. I did not know that in NWN perform was bard only.

Oh the fun things you learn the hard way.

I've noticed some NWN1 servers and all NWN2 servers allow perform to be taken as a cross-class skill.

But Amia doesn't do that because Amia sucks.

Just kidding -.^

Yeah I'm afraid you need the bard song ability to do that job.
