Without trying to sound a little camp i was batting around this idea of starting up a group/faction or whatever.. and it only a thought which has been brewing for a while.

Now i know recruitment to factions should really go on in game, which is fine and dandy but i just wanted to get people's opinions, if anyone cares :).

My idea is this;

We all know there are plenty of factions to go around if that's your thang.. but what of those who dont really wanto go that way but still want to feel like they belong to something thats a little more than nothing.
I envisage a group of Male only (and stop that tittering at the back, this isnt the village people) gentlemen, by gentlemen i mean the kind of guys that would hold doors open for ladies, conduct themselves with decorum and honour, defend the weak and a lady's honour, rescue cats and maidens, generally look impeccable or at least stylish (i told you already to stop laughing at the back),that kind of thing.
It would involve loose meetings, laising with other factions, doing great deads worthy of song and story etc etc.
It would be loosely based in Cordor (open to suggestions) and to those of all honourable (subjective) persuassions.
We could have a nice little uniform (your laughing again, stop it) and generally be beacons of chivalry.. yes we can overdo it, but thats the kind of 'old school' knightly chivalry im looking for. We could have nice and interesting vows and induction tests and all that jazz that makes being a heart throb what it is. Religion would be un important as long as those virtues laid out above can be played out.

Now that youve finished laughing, have a think, do you have any PCs that might want in on something like this?

Me personally, or more to the point my PC who would be involved in this (San Damone) is UK based (GMT+0)and as such will be on mostly evenings till about 1-1.30am at a push, except weekend, where i can be more flexible.

Sounds quite interesting. I'm curious on how it will evolve.
I think one of my characters will surely be drawn to such gatherings (if he is welcomed that is still to be seen).

GMT+1 here so about similar in gaming times.

I myself am not sure how it would eveolve, but i just feel soemthing like this is missing.. If theres enough interest i will post IC'ly and arrange a gathering...(i think we should call the gatherings a Soiree, it sounds lusciously pretentious and awfully posh).

Hell, I'd do it! Sounds very interesting.
And even if the faction thing doesn't work out, it's a wonderful concept for a character. :D

*reads the description*

Ah...maybe my age is showing but...isn't holding doors for people, especially ladies, being of pure voice (no cursing), even temperament (in control of your emotions), firm beliefs in how things are and the like what DEFINES a Gentleman?

The "knight in shining armor" concept...Gallahad and such...

I'd like to see how the people that do it can pull it off. Especially around the island where there are alot of strong, independent women, some of whom would most likely to be taking offense with the idea they are the "weaker" sex.

Course, as I subscribe to in real life....and you put in the image...the ones that understand being the "weaker" sex means they get alot of nice bonuses, are treated special always and "weaker" means "feminine" not "below me" are after all the ones worth dying for...

For a gentleman of this mind set after all.

Some blokes are the opposite and can find women that fit the opposite mold....lol.

Reminds me of the fight between Black Cat and Eva where the guy that loves Eva is basically told she will keep fighting until she kills Black Cat because the card the bad guys put on her caused the Nanobots to go haywire. He knew she was turning into a "monster".

Evil guy is laughing...nothing you can do. He answered him...

"Even in a case like this, "never give up" is the motto of ... a gentleman."

He gets the card, and a blde to the gut from Eva..who naturally comes out of the crazed state in time to realize what she has done and watch him look at her, smile, and die.

Sounds like an interesting concept. Will look forward to seeing how it plays out.

I could definitely see one of my characters interested in a group like that. Now he's just a follower of the Red Knight travelling around wherever he goes looking for "damzels in distress" or women who want to go adventuring that he could protect..

I already see an old boys club forming that raises the mythic illusion of the pure maiden and as such degrading the actual females out there.
We should do charity!

ha, love the idea, pity Eroki is already in involved with enough factions as it is, but he could defiantly try his hand at chivalry seeking to follow the example set by his hero's from the order of the rose, in his poor ugly half orcish way, making a right hash of it all..

Sounds a good plan with chivilric characters. Az would like to see more folks like this. I've been meaning to make another character that may fit this role however some questions

I would like to know how this would differ from say the triadic knights or Robs Siamorphe gang?

Would it be based as a religous order as with lots of FR orders or not?

As a female player, playing almost exclusively females and many of them considered very strong and independent, very confident in who they are... they would dearly love to be treated special... or at least with respect.

What most females don't realize; a -lady- wants to be treated well, women don't necessarily care or they're the ones to take offense....

So, I say go for it!!

It would actually be Chivilric as opposed to just acting chivilric?

I see it as a group who would hold the values of the old school 'knights', defending the weak, defending ladies honour, reading peotry, etc etc, all good wholesome cliche stuff.

It will not be religious based, and open to all who would take the oath, and bear in mind it would not be an oath to an individual in a serving capacity, it would be a brotherhood, held together by honour and deeds. and the subject of any blessings or prayers, if you could cal them that, would be to the code, and to those from old who did deeds worthy of rememberance.

It would have a uniform when appropriate, with shields being allowed as any design since all should provide a sigil of their 'house' or family.

They will meet and act i suppose in a similar way to the 'roubnd table (charity i the UK)' or 'masons' (the two that instantly spring to mind), whilst not secret, the concept of charity, honour, pulling together to a common cause, that kind of thing.

A base of operations would be required (possibly Kohlingen but we can cross that brifge when we come to it). What would be really nice is if we had one female would hold an honoured position do do 'honoury things, bestow awards etc.

There would be tourneys and all that jazz.

Addressing the point of chivalry and chivalric. Whislt i dont expect members to be annointed knights with their titles bestowed by a regent, we can still call ourselves knights and (self appointed but what the hell) and addres ourselves in the correct fashion.

I toyed with the idea of disallowing baseborn or oprphaned individuals but i want this order to go further than that, where by even a person of common stock would, by didplay of deeds and actions, attain a strong and honoured place in society.

Military wise, why not, if it takes off, we can together quest for noble causes etc etc. We wall be allies of all the goodly factions, and be beacons of respectability.

Women will flock, bards will sing, scribes will create wonderous tales of our deeds, and briches. :)

Just a few quick thoughts.

I wonder if theres a big round table placable? hehehe.

Oo the idea are coming thick and fast now, i would like to have a fashion/competition for the unifrom design? I envisage 2, one worn for defeating dastardly enemies and one for you know, swanning around town in.. :)

There's a fairly large one in the placeables for Player Houses, think its Table 1 or maybe 2.

Sune has a Knightly Order called The Order of the Ruby Rose, might think of a slightly different name or get suggestions for another to avoid confusion.

I was wondering when the 'gentlemens club' connotation would surface.. :D

Regarding the name and Sune's Ruby Rose, thats easily sorted.

The order will be called: The Order of the White Rose

White because we are all (cough) pure of heart and clean of smallclothes and a rose, because, well it's pretty, and us being butch manly men, arent afraid to connect with our femanine side right? oh and San is a florest and likes flowers, infact come to think of it, the ladies apparently like flowers too.

Oh one more thing, the haircut in the first post image is NOT mandatory :D

I am working on a charter right now which i will post publicly IC. However as i see it there would be no race restrictions (although the final say lies with the member to accept an individual) and no official alignment restrictions, and no deity restrictions.

BUT

While this is the case, it is clear to see that to display the virtues that we would promote, one would have a hard time proving their goodly deeds if they had a reputation of downright nastiness.. This of course does not stop someone trying to infiltrate the order for cowardly means. The same goes for religion, if someone is into Orcus for example, and openly so, i doubt if they would be welcomed with open arms.

They key here is, are they strong in battle, have they done good deeds, can they provide examples?

Actions speak louder than words in all cases, although a members word is his bond.

Class restrictions...none.. W would have roles for all, but primarily we would be looking for men that look great in plate (could Great in Plate be our motto, i wonder what that is in latin? - 'Magus in armis' :) ) . One thing we wont require because it is underhand, is sneaks and spies.. the thought if such a thing is quite frankly caddish and just not on.

Leadership wise, this is totally open at the moment, obviously in its infancy i suppose San will head it up, as for titles i have not decided.

HELP: If anyone is interested and is based in a UK timezone, and you have ideas, please dish them out, or contact me...

Look for some kind of public announcement this weekend. (so if you do have any ideas, post them here.. this will be for all its members, and not a power trip for me)

I'm still snickering a little from the original post, but seriously its a neat idea and not one I've really seen much of IG, from my point of view at least.
