I have several questions about dragon disciples:

1. I read that once you get dragon breath, you have to ask a DM to change it to the element of the dragon you're inheriting it from. Is this true?

2. Does the above question go for the wings as well, or do you have to buy the wings with DC's?

3. I noticed the level cap for RDD has changed for Amia. Does this bring anything new?

1. Yes. And the change is free, as long as your RP/alignment matches what you choose, usually.
2. The wings are generally changed alongside the breath weapon, at the same time. You don't have to purchase the wings of the right color.
3. ...I don't remember anything about an RDD level cap, ever.

It even has the level progression and their bonuses for up to RDD 30. You just can't take more than ten levels pre-epic.

I hope no one minds if i piggy back on the topic, wouldn't want to have another one cropping up with the same sort of title; but I wanted to understand how a RDD is considered -

Upon taking the RDD class, does it make you a half-dragon automatically?

Will I -need- to start taking into consideration of playing the said character with RDD classes as an individual that has a partial mindset of a dragon?

Any possibility I could assume that the bonuses I receive from the RDD classes not to be that from dragon blood?

RDD's aren't half dragons and RPing one as a half dragon without pre-existing DM permission will likely get you slapped.

As I understand it most RDD's do tend to take personality traits or quirks from their chosen dragon type as they delve deeper into it.

RPing one as getting the bonuses from something else would require a request to the DMs and then their approval stamp on it.

The others are quite correct. I feel I should also point out that playing a Dragon Disciple will also mean that you need to keep the alignment of the dragon from which the character descends in mind. A one-step rule is applied for RDDs, which means that if you're playing a brass dragon disciple, the alignment should be NG, CG, or CN. The way being a disciple works is very straightforward and cannot be done another way. Performing the rituals is a choice and it is therefore something the character actively and knowingly pursues - it never just happens or happens without the character's knowledge.

Anything that deviates from the above and from what the others said would require a request.

Actually it is the first time I hear about performing rituals. Never read that it was necessary to gain DD levels. Just thought you needed that certain something in your bloodline that could be traced back to dragon ancestry, resembled by the bard or sorcerer classes (RP'ed).

The rituals you speak of is something Amia specific I take it? I checked Draconomicon and Tome & Blood. No rituals are mentioned. I can understand that you willing try to expand your abilities by using your innate talent as you progress with adventuring/challenging yourself, much like a sorcerer would gain greater powers.

Please elaborate on this, as it is pretty important to people who wish to play a DD. I never RP'ed using rituals to gain 18 SDD levels with my alt..

Also, you do need (from a RP pov) a bloodline that can be traced back to a draconic heritage to even be able to fuel your inner beast, so to speak, right?

Red Dragon Disciples (Or simply DD's) on Amia require that the character have some form of Draconic ancestry of the same variety that they wish to become a DD of.

Due to this being an issue of backstory, if the desired Draconic heritage is not one of the base Chromatic or Metallic dragon types, we require a full request -before- the character is allowed to be created. As Jes mentioned earlier, we have a 1 shift leeway rule governing alignment of DDs compared to their ancestor. This guarantees you will not see evil sorcerer Gold DDs, or righteous paladin Blue DDs as they do not exist in setting.

Rituals are the usual accepted method for level advancement in DD, but these can usually be done on a personal scale and need not be large rituals shared with others or expectant of powers beyond the typical course of the actual mechanical class. However, the especially fanatical (*cough* like Zelly *cough*) tend to want to strengthen their heritage-granted blood even further, usually to the end of trying to unlock their dragon type's special abilities. This is where fully RP'd rituals become truly vital. As the desired results are often watered down variants of the base dragon's special abilities, we require said rituals to be formed in the style of a request as well and left up to the judgement of the DM team as to wether or not they succeed.

Yeah, there are multiple ways you can RP taking the levels. It doesn't have to be rituals - I just usually say rituals because I'm used to it and it makes the most sense in emulating each class level, in my opinion. Regardless of whatever the character's method of unlocking the blood is, the general premise is the same - that it's a willful, conscious effort.
