Shadow Shield.....
Question 1. Does this conceal the character's general identity/visage/appearance?
Ignoring another character's RP.
Question 2. Does not responding to another character if they ask you a question/try to engage you in conversation, and departing the area/avoiding the character count as "ignoring another character's RP."? For example, is there an ingame requirement to respond to the character and/or do an *emote* stating that you are ignoring the character and departing--applicable primarily if the character in question is intentionally avoiding talking or interacting with the individual.

Not a DM, but for the second question I have two opinions. First, I think it's generally acceptable to not emote/say something back to someone. I've done it and had it done, my char just acts as if they ignored them (which they did lol). However, it's nicer to emote ignoring the other char. But I highly doubt it's ignoring RP. That would probably be something more along the lines of just doing whatever the eff you want and blatantly being an arse without RP.

Quote: The caster is shrouded in a cloak of shadow that protects them with the following effects etc. the key point being the shroud of 'shadow', similar to shadow evade, however if you want to get into the similarities and differences of such magic and abilities its best to head over to the shadow plane and see what you can find icly =) the spell is illusion based and doesn't specify affinity to darkness. I have a feeling it may shroud the user enough to mask details, though the sillouette would still be visible. on top of that, the bonuses to damage resistance and AC seam to indicate the 'shroud' is somewhat solid. of course magic is always hit and miss on the exact details I couldn't find the pnp equivilent, at least not over at srd d20. as for ignoring someone, depends exactly what happened, and you shouldn't post such things here rather pm a dm. if someones running off solo infront of a party ignoring you then yea maybe theres an issue, but generally dashing off im not sure constitutes such a fuss. imho. ed: I gotta agree with the guard thing also, deffinatly shouldn't just dash off from such a situation.

Not a DM by far but I agree, people should consider themselves IC when logged in. Not responding to someone who wishes to chat is perfectly ok in my book, even without emotes (which can be hard to write if you are walking). Actually, if you emote "ignoring x person" you are informed of a specific condition which can be very hard to descipher irl. I would prefer the non emote actually, since people could be deaf, cought up in his/her thoughts and missing the content etc.
You could say that emoting "ignoring..." leads to metagaming, since you can't be sure about other peoples thoughts. Emoting "ignoring" will most of the time stop the person trying to get contact, where he/she actually should try harder to get something across because of doubt. But that's just my oppinion.
Don't mind ignoring peoples words, although you should be aware that ignoring a "Stop there.. I order you to stop" from a guard and continue walking away might have consequences, as it could appear as fleeing. But that's the fun of it all. You don't really know what is on the other characters mind, until you go over and poke him/her.

Question 1: WYSIWYG in my opinion. Its covered your body in a black thing that nobody can recognise you, so answer is yes. Course this doesn't mean you can use it to walk into area's your banned from, such as towns and such, least not without a DM. Most towns would call up their local mage to dispel it, or ask you to remove it. Its also, in my opinion, a reason to attack someone if they aren't willing to dispel the magic.
Question 2: No to question 2. Not responding is just not responding. But be aware some people find this offensive IC, and the character may decide to attack, particularly if your ignoring a request to leave an area by a guard, or an out given for PvP. Not responding is an IC action, so you have to be willing to deal with the consquences of that IC action.
Now, if this is based around a specific event like its sounding, then please PM a DM with details.

Oops, I accidently clicked edit on the OP instead of quote. Sorry. >> Richard Bane wrote: Shadow Shield.....
Question 1. Does this conceal the character's general identity/visage/appearance? IMO, it would conceal them to a certain extent, but not totally. You could probably recognize facial features if you got a good look at close range (say a couple rounds not in combat). It would probably cover up/hide anything color-related though, such as tattoos. If I were DMing a situation where this came up, I'd assign it a DC 30-40ish spot check to recognize someone you know under the spell. Quote: Question 2. Does not responding to another character if they ask you a question/try to engage you in conversation, and departing the area/avoiding the character count as "ignoring another character's RP."? I think it'd be nicer to do something along the lines of *gives X the cold shoulder, ignoring them*. That way, no one thinks you're just being rude OOCly. As for ignoring someone being a rule violation, that usually means like someone emotes blocking a doorway, and you just barge past them via NWN's wacky collision programming and go through the door, with no rolls or anything. Actually ICly ignoring a person or giving them the cold shoulder doesn't count as ignoring their RP.

So if you have a really long nose or big ears, you're busted! Seriously though, I don't imagine it's very difficult to identify someone you know well. I guess it depends on how well you know their features. Try photoshopping your friend's image to see for yourself, I guess?

Not a DM here, but something else I thought of that might be taken into consideration. It would also depend how long you saw them for.
It's not uncommon for example, when a crime happens, that people struggle to remember exactly what a person looked like, even though they saw them directly.

not a dm obv and they already ruled but heres my thoughts anyway
1) what you see is what you get. your the same model just with completely flat black features, so while it would be hard to tell who someone was if they were a generic human, but someone who has a more unique look might be easier to remember, this is of course subject to specific RP instances, example... i sometimes use shadow shield and ivards together to emote that i look like a writhing black mass. you can ignore that and rp with me as though i am just what you see, a mage in shadow shield standing in an ivards area, but that is lame. if someone has taken the time to rp something, roll with is imho, unless it is going to cause an issue, like god emoting or someone breaking character etc.
2) i HATE when people do this, it makes me thing they are being rude OoG, and i will typically shoot them a tell asking if i did something offensive, because that could always be the case. when walking, shift click so you can type, and for people who are slow typers they can just hit ENTER a lot more than others. if you do not emote something such as ignoring the person, then there was -no- rp and theres nothing saying you even met the person, they werent there at all, you cant get subtle hints from them as the game does not show them they have to be emoted. if someone blatantly ignored me during rp it is very frustrating and i will probably never ever play with that person in the future, thats how badly it irks me.

no, its rude and i have ever right to say so. this might be a game but the rules of life still apply. it takes so little effort to make other peoples experiences in game fun ones, so why not do them. i dunno, i guess its that thinking which has people telling me how enjoyable it is to rp with me, but i could be wrong, couldent i...

Yes. You could be. And you are, actually. It's nice to see you admit it, though.

I'm not being abrasive. I'm telling you that going "Hm. They didn't type to me. They must hate me and are ignoring me OOC!" is silly.
They aren't answering you because they're ignoring you IC. And that's how it should be taken. You should not throw a fit and DEMAND an answer otherwise you'll ignore their roleplay OOC. Which you're not allowed to do, btw, because it actually is against the rules.

no, i would roll with it and leave when i feel that im no longer having fun. i wouldent disregard someone who was rping at me, which would be the problem in the first place. but if i know someone acts a certain way OoC im not going to seek out that character again for rp. and with my playstyle, im often approaching characters for rp, not the other way around.

It does help to show that your character isn't afk by either moving about, talking to others or typing said ignoring emote.
I personally would state it in a way so the player knows what is happening but that is my personal style. A clear ignore works too of course (see above).

Based on that statement, I'm definitely siding with Tormak. I always take someone walking away from me as IC. My response is as follows: "... (insert snide, sarcastic, or curious word or phrase here)." That's the end of that.

Considering the fact that both those questions have been answered and I see this spiraling quickly into a bad place, I'm going to lock.
