I remember reading a while back that the Genasi got their +1 ecl removed and can take the full 30 levels now. Is this still the case? the sidebar still says otherwise.
...Urr, you sure? Friend of mine has an orog which reportedly has no LA (I totally just asked him just then to confirm, and he said none... he thinks), and I've got an ogrillion with +1.
The bonuses aren't that beefy next to the -2 dex and -2wis, which hurts anyone who might benefit from the bonuses aside from sorcs. The AC is nice though.

I don't think anybody on amia dm team could really be called lazy, considering how much you all have on your plates at any given time. But yeah, they do need to be put back up. *cracks a whip* hyaw mule!

Okay so, if I gather this correctly I think I missed something....
ECL is the effective character level which normally means you get a reduction in the experience you gain as you adventure. But it doesn't affect the level caps...meaning normally, an ECL 1 can still get to 40, just takes longer because he is losing some exp along the way.
From reading this thread however, I get the idea that for Amia, it actually limits the level you can get to?
So for an ECL 1 the max level is only 29?
Is that correct?

Yes.
Hrm...okay, I did not know that. Guess I missed it...will cause me to rethink some of the things I have planned as I wont get a full 30 levels on my characters....that one level does make a difference on two of them...ah well...should not be that big a difference.

I can't reliably check now but I think that is how it works in PnP. Unsure really though.
ECL is there because a 30 Drow will wtfpwn things (not really but you should see the races with +8 ECL :3)

Yeah, I understand. And I did miss it (went back and read the Race thread)
Just had thought 30 levels out (kinda) for some of my characters with ECL 1 is all. Means I will restart two of them (actually put one on hold and restart one)....
Its all part of the learning curve of a new server and no big deal. The RP side of things works fine. And I had not been on a server that did that before.
I am curious how the races that had their ECL lowered were picked...and good to know Genasi ECL is gone, I had not known that either.

I think the lowered level cap implementation is better for Multiplayer. In a regular campaign, there's only going to be a certain number of XPs available.....like, say, in the Singleplayer campaign there's going to be ...idk, 100,000xp available for doing all the quests, and that would put a cap on a more powerful characters advancement. But here, there are as many XPs as you want ready for the taking, needs to be another way of limiting the power of the characters with inate special abilities.
I'm suprised there are servers that do it differently. They must have balance issues.

Actually, I can say I have played on ALOT of servers, stayed for a long time on four. (Five here I hope)
This is the FIRST server I have found that did it this way.
And, I will tell you three things....personal opinion mind you...
1) Balancing issues...galore. For example, Drow were not a playable race on many or DM only approval.
2) ECL races far outnumbered none ECL races. Total imbalance.
3) The level cap limit is a good thing to me.
Yeah, its kinda is annoying I messed up and will probably redo a few of my characters...but the more I think of it...the more I am just probably going to rethink their build instead of starting over.
None of them are beyond 6...that is the key to me...if they were higher level, wouldn't even think of it.
I honestly think though, in my rather large gut, I will instead of rebuilding any, start one fresh one and shelf one...Kali Fi....though he is taking on a nice life of his own here...he was more to get the feel of things anyway. heh.
He wont' go away....just will keep him for the RP things and to heck with the lossed level...its one feat and I can retool him to a different slant is all.
And that is the final thought on this....
The RP I have enjoyed here is one reason I am going this path....Kail has had some interesting RP just in the few days he's been played and I don't want to give that up....mechanics aside...for me at least, its the story of the character....
But this did give me an idea for a fun character I think....heheh.
