Yoohoo folks, just a quick question about Dragon Disciples and that.

Question I was wondering is... does somebody who's going about doing the whole DD route, ie. exploring their draconic blood, necessarily know what colour of dragon they're bound to come out as, if say they don't know what colour dragon bonked their old granny back in the day (or however the dragon blood thingy gets there)?

I assume there'd be some kind of hint as to what type they'd be inclined to be, because most dragons (from what I gather) have distinct personality traits and all that. But just out of curiosity is it feasible for it to be surprising for the char themselves to learn?

Or is it all discovered during the process of becoming a DD?

Reason to ask is I reckon it'd be quite novel to play a char who thinks, or presumes, they'll turn out as some majestic gold type, but in actual fact turns a tad more red than expected.

No, the character knows. They have to know before they can pursue the path, whether they find out through extensive research or by magical means. It's impossible to become a Red when you think you're Gold. It doesn't work that way. A dragon disciple actively pursues the path of their dragon ancestor from the very beginning, so if your blood is Red, and you're pursuing the blood of the Gold, it's not gonna do any good at all. Nothing will happen.

Dragon disciples are paragons of their ancestor dragon. It's a completely straightforward procedure that cannot be messed up. Mistakes like that are impossible.

That is possible, in a way. You could try and become a Gold Dragon disciple, and fail, because the character is not what they think they are.

If you would then choose to become a Red Dragon disciple? Unlikely, given the wholly different mindset required, unless the revelation drives your character batshit. But don't tell Zelly. She won't let you.
