This works only in Windows 7

If you're like me and has grown tired of the theme that came with your computer and don't want the themes from Microsoft, you can actually make your own, Amia based, theme to your computer for free. This is how you do it:

1: You need to have the pictures the size of your screen
Check out your screen by right clicking on it and choose from the links. My screen is 1600 x 900, I suggest you make the pictures in the same size. If you can't, then make a blank picture (pure black, white or whatever) that is the same size as your screen and paste the screeenshot in it.

2: You need a program for the pictures
If you hit "Print Screen" key in game, you get a .tga file in the NWN/screenshot/ directory but then you need a program that can handle tga files.
The easiest for me is to just hit the "print screen" button while I play, choose the "windows" key (with a flag on it) and use a graphic program to paste the picture in. I use "Corel Draw/Photopaint", since I own it and like it, but the common "Paint" works too.
In Corel Draw I choose "New picture from clip board" while in paint I just paste the picture onto the existing default picture that automatically grows to correct size.
If you get a pitch black picture instead of the screenshot, you're stuck with handling the .tga files instead (it happens on some computers, I don't know why).
If you hit the "H" key in game, you'll get a screen without any text in it. I think it makes nicer pictures.
Windows handles .bmp and .jpg pictures well (I have tried both), probably .png too. Stick to those and the theme will work.

3: The actual pictures
Take a handful of pictures from the game and save them in a dedicated folder. I took four for this example with my cleric Garm Ghostchaser, walking around the world. If you already have a bunch of nice .tga screenshots, convert them to .jpg and use them instead.

Creating the theme
1: Right click on your desktop and select "Personalize" (at the bottom).
2: Click on "desktop background" (bottom-left).
3: Click "Browse" to locate the folder of your Amia pictures.
4: Select the pictures you want to use for your theme.
5: Click on "Save Changes".
6: Now, you have a theme under "My Themes" that still isn't saved. Change sounds, colors and screensaver too.
7: When you have finished your customization, right click on the new theme and choose the save theme option.
8: When saving, choose "Save as Theme pack", and you have a theme pack you can use yourself or share with friends.
9: Installing it is easy, just double click on the file.

Well...Um...

Amia's colour scheme would likely be black, gold and maybe white. Not sure about the blue and stuff. Also the picture is a little errrr...not really Amia, just a PC killing an ogre.

Personally not a fan of the changing desktop thing.

Change the colour scheme then, do one of your own and put it under the "Optional Downloads" link. Or maybe better - make a photo contest with a divine mythal as the first price and put the ten best pictures in a theme for the players to download. What I put up was just an example to show what it might look like.

And personally, I'm a fan about personilizing my things, it might be my toon or my PC or my kitchen table, having it my way makes me thrive. If you like it the way the computer was when they shipped it from Microsoft, then good for you.



An ettin, it's just one of four pictures, not the only picture in the theme, you have to wait a couple of minutes for next to appear. I don't know if there is an upper limit to how many pictures you can have in a theme. You set the interval yourself 5-30 minutes when you want them to change.

Your statement that the picture is "not really Amia" makes me a bit curious though. What is "Amia" for you then? Can you take a screenshot to show us what Amia is for you? or can that be another competition or photo contest?

Black background with "Amia" down exactly the way it is in the upper left hand corner of the website. Perhaps with sparkles and opacity treater swirls to make it seem like magic is happening around the word?

Don't take it to heart. I'm just a picky part-time graphics designer who's also dappeled in desktop customization. I'm a tit.

If your PC can run it, you might like nwshader. Not only can you clamp the distance fog, and replace it with a nice depth of field blur, it also saves print screens directly to .png file format. Saves a lot of fiddling with .tga or whatever it is natively.

I quite like the slideshow background.. I set it up to have brighter images during the day, then through a sunset to darker images at night. It's just a folder with 24 images, played in order each hour. Only need to set the first one when you restart it and it is good.

That was an excellent idea. Maybe I'll take 24 pics from a stationary camera at our cottage now in the summer, do as you said, and have something to remind me of the summer in the long, dark, cold winternights.
