| Post subject: | Couple of question on current Amia mechanics and srv rules |
Hi folks. So I've been away from Amia for over a year, and when I come back I find my main character nerfed badly by some new devastating critical hit mechanics. It's no longer as devastating as it used to be in the past. Could someone guide me to a thread explaining why such a drastic change has been made and how does DevCrit work now? I made a quick search through the forum but, I dunno, couldn't find any info on it. All seems to be so... alien for me now. Ok, I found this... Quote: First off, on this server DevCrit does NOT insta-kill. It does knockdown plus blind/deafen/silence, even if DevCrit was the killing blow. Therefore the argument is almost irrelevant for Amia. But there must be some official info about it. Has Bigby's Hand been nerfed too? Or is it still an insta-win spell? Any other major mechanics/server rules changes since, like, first half of 2010 I should be aware of? Oh, and have you guys managed to finally get some cool scripted illusion spells running, thus making this school useful at last? I remember it was once in discussion. I know, I know. Lots of questions... But please be forgiving for an old chap. Thanks. |

devcrit now knocks you down... blinds you and deafens you if you fail a fort roll... so in essence you are still dead if devcritted also bigbys forceful was nerfed and now uses a fort save as well hope that helps! |

And we are leaving out perhaps the best part it does which is silences as well, so even if you get up somehow you wont be spellcasting unless you took the metamagics to avoid it. The effects of the KD I ~believe~ are set to rounds per Crit mod. While the blind/silence/deafen are turns per crit mod. |

Thankie for your reply, Dieu_Le_Fera. So DevCrit rolls are exactly the same, but now, if failed, there's just a different effect, right? Is there some bonus to damage multiplier on successful hit? Or is it just a standard critical plus negative effects? Can't say I'm happy with the change, buuuut I think I can understand the reasons behind it. Nobody liked to be DevCrited within a blink of an eye, just like that. -snaps his fingers- But, nobody liked Bigby's too. I'm glad that Devs changed this spell. If the fortitude save is what it uses now then I guess I can live with the new DevCrit (Heh, but I bet I'll be pissed more than once before I get used to new mechanics). And how about server rules? Anything new? @Naivatkal. Thanks for a great link. I'll look into it ASAP. @Feonir. Yeah, DevCrit KD seems to be of short effect. Yesterday I went to Skull Craigs past the Amia Forest (my jaw dropped when I saw the new vegetation. Wow!), and when I arrived, I was like... whadda? Those giants just dropped for a second only to raise right after. Didn't know about other DevCrit effects though. Silence seems cool. But unless you take a mage by surprise, I bet Grok's right tooth that it's useless. |

If you are using Kukri's for the 10 or 12-20 roll then yes, it is a short effect, if you use an actual 'Devastating' weapon to do those Devastating criticals with being glued to the floor for 2-3 rounds is a death sentence anyway. Since you lose all your dex based AC and a good hunk of other AC categories too. Basically it just snuffled out the cheap as shit "Stack RDD to the tits and fling rapiers/Kukri's" around build and rewarded the incredible hulks with their greataxe's. And god bless them too. |

Well, I've been poundin' giants' hedz with a scimitar, so for me, it felt like a short effect. If only I knew what was coming, I would've chosen some pretty, rusty axe, or a fearsome, heavy, spiked club as my ogrillion's nasty primary weapon of mass destruction (or anything with a high damage that fits the race). Does this major change implicates that people who chose a DevCrit path could demand a free rebuild? Not that I need it at the moment, as I'm still trying to familiarize myself with the changes and the new game balance. Still, I think it's a question worth asking, as my character was created under former server regulations. |

Hah ahah hahaha haaaah... No. At least, that's my take on it (based on everything I have read). It's game mechanics and it doesn't break your character, so you'd need RP to back it up. ICly, your char is still beating the crap out of things it's just retconned (I think?) that DevCrit is not the same as before. |

Hey, no need to laugh out of my question. I think it was a reasonable one, considering the rules that apply to most things people do in real life. If the agreement changes, all depends on the customer. Sure you could say that when the agreement changes, so ya either agree with it or be gone... and, this is a private server, it's not the real life, but just a game, so beat it ya punk. But, I really don't think it's the way to go. I've already said that I only asked this question out of curiosity. You never loose anything by asking questions, or do you? |

Quote: It's listed on the sidebar. Thanks. I didn't notice it. You know, when people are visiting the forum on daily basis, they know where to find stuff. But just give yourself a short break, and you forget everything. And it's just like I said. This forum seems pretty alien to me right now. This server is really offering a LOT of changes from the vanilla NWN right now. Heh, I thought that after a year everything will be relatively the same as when I left it... Quote: Oh, and no, it doesn't. Damn. And "not damn", at the same time. You go figure... I'm not too happy, but it's something I can do shit about, right? Heh, heh. Hey, @PaladinOfSune, now that this thread got your attention... Anything changed in illusion subject that I mentioned? -holds his thumbs until PaladinOfSune's response- |

No illusion spells have been changed. Weird has a transmutation page, though, which is fairly nifty. The feat/class changes topic is very much up to date, as is: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=56068 That. |

Still, I think it's a question worth asking, as my character was created under former server regulations. No, but there is another "new" rule on the server. Not sure if you know it yet. You can rebuild one character a year for free (meaning a full year needs to have passed at least since the last free rebuild for the next free rebuild). However you need to make a request in the request forum and the free-rebuilds usually are only permitted if the changes are not too drastical. Very drastical changes, especially in class-changes, which result in nearly a whole new chara usually will be only granted as a self-rebuild (if even). |

Nobody's mentioned the change to Heal potions. The more you chug within a given time, the less they heal. Basically it's a nerf to the never-ending-heal-chugging PvP. Let's see... there's also an expansion/change to cleric domains in the immanent future and several other changes that have been implemented or are about to be that I can't quite remember right now. |

Yeah in a 1:1 situation a Dev landing is still pretty much instant death there's just a manual component to doing the actual finisher which I find much more visceral and enjoyable. |

AND Quote: This completely reads as "I took a weapon I thought was not fitting merely do be cheesy and to kill faster, I now dont and should be compensated because the cool people who choose RP before Cheese are cooler then me. You guys are cruel. Okay, part of the reason I chose this weapon might've been a powerbuild... BUT! At least the other half was that the scimitar just fit the savage characters like Uruk-hai orcs from Jackson's interpretation of Tolkien's trilogy (which was far inferior to Bakshi's production, if you ask me) or "wild" middle-east people who were perceived as savage unbelievers by the medieval christians (I believe they were far more civilized than we were at the time). When I was choosing a weapon path with my PC, it was either a double handed axe that would disallow the use of shield (even a light buckler!), a club that was the most coolest weapon, but the weakest at the same time, or a scimitar. The choice was obvious, considering the numbers of powerbuilders roaming the lands of Amia. It's no pleasure to have a hedzpounding each time you have a misunderstanding with a powerbuilder. And monster PC's life is much, much more harder that the ordinary pinkey's. Almost every one can decide to kick your butt from whatever reason, so you have to have a certain level of badasseness written onto your forehead, which means a powerbuild in this particular example. Quote: I know this is really off subject, but I feel it must be said. When I read your posts; its always in a Elvis Presley voice, because of that damn profile picture >.<. ok that is all. You ever tried finding a decent greatsword... I didn't say it wasn't good mechanically (and great depends on whether your talking about PvP or PvM), i just said it was under-supported. I challenge you to find a good greatsword in the module (apart from the greater magical variety). Blade of the Rashemi, defenders valor, Titan, Despair, Great sword of Pain, Vindicator, that sword thats only for BGs that has 2d6 flaming on it...all subpar. Really would it kill to just put Keen on a few of these swords? And now that the manors gone, you can kiss goodbye to a chance at a perfect mythal before epic. Whats even more confusing is that the majority of rapiers and scims are keen. You're hard pressed to find one that isn't keen. |

And I always thought, on RP server, you should pick a weapon that fits your character, RP-wise based, not pwn4ge based. Yet again, fail. I will not pretend I am the know-it-all, but an orc with scimitar? Seriously? Maybe some outcast faggotry-like orc, sure. But NORMAL orc/halforc/ogrillion - I just cannot picture them without massive weapons. What Tolkien used for his Uruk Hai might have been called as a scimitar, but in fact it was a cleaver. Maybe a falchion of some sort. But scimitar? Have you ever seen a REAL scimitar? Same goes to rogues. Almost every single rogue uses kukri. Maybe it's the latest fashion and epics like Regis, a famous rogue with a mace (what a n00b, the crit. range on mace is pathetic, right?) are no longer actual. Another thing I love - people running around with scythes. Lovely combo of fight/rogue/WM with dev.crit on a scythe - You are an idol of all the rednecks and pushed farmers whole over the world! As a youngster I have used scythe to mow grass, and I am absolutely sure that in a fight the weapon would proove quite useless (against sword, axe, you name it). If I exclude spellcasters, I have not seen halberd, quarterstaff, dire mace, double-axe, double sword, daggers in action. But yeah, there is shitload of dual kukris, scimitars, scythes and so on... Give me a break. Sometimes the reading here reminds me hard core action servers. Pathetic. |
