Due to some recent RP and my lack of knowledge regarding things D&D, I pose a series of questions hoping to get better clarity in its lore. does a Shadow Dancer draw his powers from the Shadow Plain or the Shadow Weave. if so, how much of a connection I've also read that "Shar holds power over all who use the Shadow Weave" (from Shar - Forgetten Realms wiki page). is this true and/or does it apply to SD's as well?

SDs draw their power from the shadow plane, not the shadow weave. Shar doesn't have SDs as part of her portfolio, so I don't think she has any real power over them.

The plane of Shadow and the ShadowWeave are two very different things.
The Plane of Shadow is much like the elemental planes, a place composed of that particular element, in this case shadow. The ShadowWeave is a an opposing magical force created by Shar to emulate the same effects as Mystra's Weave. It works in a similar fashion to the Weave, yet like Shar is darker in aspect.
An SD draws their power through training and manipulation of shadows. But unless they are a devout of Shar, none of their power comes from the ShadowWeave. And yes, everyone who uses the Shadowweave serves Shar, as it is a method to siphon power from Mystra.
So no. SD's do not typically use the shadowWeave, unless they also serve Shar, and cast arcane or divine spells from the ShadowWeave.

I thought I answered this for you?
A Sharran Shadowdancers only connection to Shar is their faith, nothing else. If it was a Shadow Weave user multiclassing as a SD then technically the SD has connection to the Shadow Weave but still all SD powers are Shadow Plane. But just a plain Shar worshiping SD can not ask her for more SD power, since she doesn't give that.
Everything that has the word "Shadow" in it is not connected. Most, but not all.

If any god could claim power over the Shadowplane it would be Mask, as his domain is Shadow. Probably why he has a Temple in Shadowscape.

Ok, so now I know the Shadow Weave and the Shadow Plain are two different things entirely and that Shar created the Weave and NOT the Plain itself. And yes, thanks as always Mahtan.. and you you other guys

Glad to help, at first I thought I forgot if I answered you or not or if it was someone else. Also Shar and Mask do both have domain within the Shadow Plane, but for Amia, due to events in the past and such, Mask is the dominate control of the Shadow Plane stuff in our areas. Not to say that Sharran's can't change that or anything.

...alack... oh, ah, woe is me, that all the interjections of a sufferer do not suffice to suppress the wrath of an illbred person.
It had to be done.

Yep, as has been said, the Shadowdancer isn't a divine class. It has zero connection to any god. Although Mask holds the portfolio of Shadow he does not control or rule over Shadowdancers. Shar even less so. And yeah, it doesn't use the Shadow Weave at all, it uses the Shadow Plane directly.
In any case, I'd fold to most things Mahtan says about SD's, since he's kinda the expert in that. The most knowledgeable at it that I know of on Amia, that's for sure.
It is true that Shar rules over the Shadow Weave though, yes. A total rule over the Shadow Weave. However, that's irrelevant to the Shadowdancer.

How about Assassins? Are they considered arcane spellcasters, subject to spell failure?

There's arcane spellfailure on all the spell like abilities they can obtain from widgets.
