Lately OOC ABC loot in party chat really started to bother me. You have to watch the party channel and filter chatter from loot, or in my case either disable it when it gets too annoying. Many people seem to find it bothersome to handle loot IC, but instead of an OOC loot order, you can make up some very simple IC loot order as well. Its just a bit more letters to type in the talk channel, and most of what can be typed OOC can be typed IC almost as fast. Look at the party layout. What races? What classes? What faiths? Instead of A, E, K go: "Elf, yours", "Paladin, your share", whatever, be creative. It takes almost no time and even the most boring grinding can have a little flavour of interaction with this. If you start doing this, most of the other players in the party will go along with it as well. And this notion comes from a notorious PvM powergamer.

I concur. But it bothers me less now as I usually just switch off due to the lack of a challenge from hunting areas.

So....someone in the party gets to decide the order? If there is no cohesive order, it will cause problems. I suppose it will become IC problems to be sorted out, so I guess that's....good?
What if the higher-level character decides to take all or most of the loot for themselves just because they have a better chance of winning in PVP or something? Does this qualify as just a problem to be dealt with IC? That would piss me off, and I'd like to not have that happen, but it would be all in character, just not all in fun. I'd rather focus on the fun aspect. To me, some things that are role-played are just a waste of time.
I dislike the abc system, and yes it is most likely just an OOC thing that is almost always handled OOC, but it is orderly. I think most can assume the loot order was determined even though it was never actually discussed IC. There is room for error without something like the abc system, and players can get pissed off (not just their characters) if they feel they have been taken advantage of.
Some people can choose to role-play removing their armor for five actual minutes to take a shit behind a tree, counting their gold aloud coin by coin, or walking to Amia Forest from Cordor at a snail's pace. Most people don't want or need to rp every single little thing because it isn't fun and it is more of a waste of time than anything. Time is not actual time IG, and days pass quicker than in real life, so why take the same amount of time that you would IRL with your character in a game?
I think this falls more under the waste of time/not fun rp that is often ignored in favor of what makes the game/server fun. Just don't bitch about others not role-playing every tiny little thing when it isn't that big of a deal. If it works for you, then do it. I'm gonna leave the loot order rp to a minimum unless another character in my party decides that it needs to be role-played.

Sometimes with my little groups I'd do what the first poster said, instead of saying random letters IC. Should I be with some people who I know, I just ask if they'd be fine with just taking it once in a while, not having to say anything. It works quite well in my experiences and the fighting is much more fluent instead of stopping to argue "Hey, that's my loot, A-hole!"

I haven't suffered from ABC loot in ages.

... I don't see why people always think ABC has to be OoC. More than a few times, after party introductions, I or someone in a party I've been in have said "Hey, what was your name gain? Aaron? Yeah, you go first, we'll go by names." We already assume English is Common, there's no reason not to assume we have the same alphabet IC as well.
And yeah, you go by the name people give you IC. If someone's bio says they're Friederick Nerfhurder, but he introduces himself as Basky Twinkletoes, you go with that. It's really, really not as difficult as everyone makes it.

If this is also a big issue for those who have posted here, each gold coin should be counted when purchasing a perfect mythal or a fortitude cloak from another character selling wares in Market Hall. That will also eat up a lot of time, but it will be more realistic too. People who are diseased should role-play having a disease, and all injuries should be role-played too as well.
I'm being somewhat sarcastic, but my point is that there are always things that should (by some standards) be role-played out when they otherwise wouldn't be.

Party:
Alfred (human, paladin) Charlie (hin, bard) Thomas (elf, wizard)
Instead of
[Party] A you go -> "Human, your turn" or "Paladin, your turn"
Whatever, I don't mean to handle loot IC like "Oh, rogue, you could need that" and that stuff, that is really tiresome. Just the same ABC loot order expressed IC, nothing else.
And Murex, I don't talk about RP quality. I talk about too much chatter in party chat, which is kinda disruptive. This is one example of it. There are so many instances when someone says something in party chat that could be almost 99% said in the same way IC.

It should be as IC as possible, this is something I agree with.. However within reason. My evil tiefling WOULD steal any loot that dropped if he's the only one alive in the group since the others can't know it was dropped anyway.. then pick their pockets. However doing either of the above without okaying it OOCly first will earn you ALOT of hate and is likely breaking a rule somewhere (at least a moral rule!).
So I say: Handle loot ICly, but make sure everyone's fine with it all OOCly first to avoid having to break IC for OOC clarifications further down the road. IF you have an evil char in a party with a paladin, clear that out OOCly first if it needs to be done, to save from having to do that once the party actually gets started.
Trust me, it will give your RP a much better flow when you actually get underway, even if it takes a few mins extra to get started.

I think most problem with ABC loot rises from question of speed. Most players who go out to level up or gain gold wish to do as much of it as possible in shortest time possible. So they simply ignore need for roleplay over items.
Personally, I usually like to go by need theory. It means items are first asked about, eg, if anyone wishes the item, and if there is negative response, simply dump it into "for sale" bag. Of course this system can only work with somewhat honest party that is more interested in talking than slaughtering mobs. Since you will unquestionably spend at least 10 seconds to 30 discussing single item of loot.
Its more about what you actually want to do, and finding similar minded players for party.

I tend to do mastered loots in parties that are willing (one person grabs all, sells, splits evenly), or it gets sorted out IC - my character tends to dictate the order if no one else does, and I just ignore OOC claims of possession. If you don't like the IC order, complain about it ICly.

If you want to rp loot order, then do so, just don't insist that everyone should (not directed at anyone [just a general statement]). The sarcasm isn't really appreciated, just to say. While merchanting with Jack, on several occassion's people have tossed out completely random amounts in the barter window which added up to a little bit below or a little bit above. It makes me smile every time. People wouldn't normally count out their coin, but tend to have small satchel's filled with "roughly" X amount. I've seen some people role play their injuries or diseases pretty damn well, as a matter of fact. To me that comment seems to come off like you're insulting the people who act out the little things like that, and I don't really like it. When you get a character who you've invested part of your immortal soul into, you may realize that wanting to act out the little things of their lives is one of the best experiences you can have. I've spent an entire day with Jack, strolling up and down every street in Cordor. Entering every individual shop, store, and eatery. I had a blast. You may find that incredibly boring, but don't belittle those who actually take pleasure in it. My final point; No one is insisting on anyone else to do anything. Re-read the topic. "Some inspiration to handle loot order IC"

Personally I just go with the flow of the party... if they handle abc loot ic'ly that fine, if not, fine. I assume everyone is much like me, sometimes I am just passing time and dont wish to rp much, just to hunt...

I find it difficult to manage loot IC, because the loot system doesn't seem a very realistic thing. I'm not complaining, but it's difficult to push aside the logic of arguing over, say, some scrolls, when there are gems littered all over the floor (Yuan-ti temple). Likewise with the idea that a rat, or spider, is for some reason carrying round an axe.
A lot of the time when we agree to RP taking the loot, it boils down to one or two characters running in, seeing a piece of loot, breaking away from combat, typing; *steals* and picking it up. I'm okay with Roleplaying for loot, but if you do, -please- do it properly.

@Wolf- Yeah, I agree with what you said. I know it was sarcastic, but my point was that every little thing can be played out IC. You are taking me too seriously. I have nothing against anyone role-playing loot order.
I never see anyone count out their gold in Market Hall...why is that do you think? Probably because it's a pain in the ass to act out every tiny detail. My point can be found in this example.

Heh, when my character is in a hunting party, he's lucky to come away with one or two items, and he's a talented rogue. Most of the time the stuff gets grabbed fairly quickly or just left behind because I'm trying to keep him up with the rest if the party. ABC only works when the party is not rushing so quick that one can actaully type something in for RP. I try, but my typing is not so quick, to RP during hunting. It doesn't bother me too much, my character isn't really concerned with riches so much, as he is more of an explorer.

For the most part I just go with the flow.... If they want to handle it oocly they'll handle it oocly, but it doesn't mean you have to do the same.... You can always RP your part... I rather enjoy it even.... Hunting in abyss, and gutting a balor, just to see a perfectly not digested magical scimitar spilling out from it's gut with all the other nasty stuff. Most of the times when you start RP'ing others pick it up as they realise that RP'ing trough the abyss is much more fun than just running it trough with the speed of light, killing the same spawns, doing the same tricks that you have done a hundred times before. That gets really old, really fast.
Be an example to people and most of the times they follow. You can be a bad example or a good one it doesn't matter. People are pack animals, just like wolves. They find the alpha from the party and follow it's lead. That is just the way it is.

I didn't read much of this thread but one time I was in a party who ABC looted ICly. One person asked everyone their IC names and reminded who whose turn it was.
I thought it was awesome.

Party chatter isn't that big a deal. I've not been in many parties where everyone is excessively talking about random things, and even when that happens it never is really disruptive to me. I'm a patient bastard, so I guess thats why.

I have party chat turned off so I sometimes see letters above someones head when loot drops. Depending on what character I am playing I either take when I think it's fair for me to take or I take it all saying "Munts?" and keeping it unless another RPs with me. If they piss and moan OOC they get "RP or it did not happen". I also have a grumpy dwarf who thinks that as he is taking the most beating for being up front then he has the pick of the loot, again with him it all comes down to RP.

I enjoy rambling in party chat, I find getting to know the players as well as the characters removes a lot of the OOC drama that tends to crop up. Espcially when it comes to PVP.

As per my signature. This is an RP server and like any other RP server I have played on I presume from the start that everything a character does is in character, I don't assume that we will deal with anything OOC, and why should I. I come to a RP server to RP stuff this means, names, spoils and every other interaction that can take place between people. Being bored and so wanting to just "hunt" is not an excuse, play something else or go to a non-RP server. Being bored because you have "hunted" this area before and have 999 epic leet powerbuilt lvl 30 characters is no excuse, every character should be played like the first, if you can not do this then don't have so many characters. For the rules lawyers out there here is the amia server rules on OOC Quote: This really shouldn’t need saying, but it seems like one of the more common problems: Stay In Character (IC) at all times. Do not drop Out Of Character (OOC) on the Talk channel unless absolutely, and mark your OOC comment like ((this)) or //this. Use OOC discussion on the Party channel in moderation. I have bolded and underlined the important clarification of this rule, OOC discussion of OOC matters is one thing, OOC discussion of IC matters is clearly a breach of the letter and the spirit of the rule and so I simply do not use party chat at all. I see the DMs on a regular basis making their feelings clear about OOC use of party chat in game when they log in and send those yellow text server wide messages telling us to stop using party chat. Time many of you started listening and getting back to what being on a role play server means. All my characters are role played regardless of their level or the level of those with whom they interact, should I be distracted and metagaming in party chat learning things about another character its inevitable that it will flavour the IC interactions. I have seen people who cant get on OOC translate that into IC hostility and I have seen those who are bum chums OOC work ICLy with those who are in fact blood enemies. And I have seen enough examples of this over eight months to know that its not just the odd occurrence. Keep it IC and I guarantee players will have a far better time here, those who insist on OOCing and metagaming are just dragging this server down.

//lol
...thats all I have to say, just this single "//lol" destroys awsome RP every day.
But in all seriousness, amia is a rather "liberal" server and will always have to deal with OOC, most of the times it's already enough to encourage the people to RP and they will go IC, gets harder in larger groups, but its possible.
