It's like they're the new Genasi! There's so bloody many of them! I feel like every fourth person I see on the surface is dragonblooded in some way..

So! I'm considering starting a group of Dragon-hunters ;P Y'know.. they'll be like whalers except they hunt dragons and dragonbloods for sport.

Am I the only one who thinks there's a Draconic overload going on?

My main character is a dragonkin, I admit. Still, not -all- of us are motivated by "Ooooh, wings!"

I'm not sure if there was an ounce of "Hmmm.. Maaaaybe," when you said about dragon hunters, but surely there's an order of some sort that hunts down dragons and dragonkin? Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea, the dragonkin oh-so rarely team up, and in my experience there's a lot of hostility between the different coloured chromatic dragons.

It'd be like Braveheart >:D

Well.. It's simple logic, really.. When a species is introduced into an ecosystem and has no natural predators they expand to a painfully large extent.. And then you introduce a new species that eats them, see! So then everything is normal for a few years until the new species grows in population to a painfully large extent.

First, get DM's to let 9+ lvs RDD change your racial type to Dragon. >_>

And then, my good sir, then I shall create my Ranger with BoE Dragon and play him as a Vassal of Bahamut. *nod*

In all seriousness, though, I'd really, really appreciate a ruling being made for "1/4th" dragons. They're not cannon, they're not even officially recognized by Amia, afaik, and they end up looking more dragon-like than some 10th lv RDD's. Following our race rules, anything other than mechanically recognized races and subraces should be requested anyway.

I was going off the "Half-Dragon" thing it says at 9, but that's just NWN. You're right, 10 would make more sense, as in PnP you technically gain the Half-Dragon template @ lv10 DD anyway.

Or 4th level, if we wanted to screw dippers over.

Personally, I'd be happy if the ability bonii were moved to later (even if that meant grandfathering the ones already in existence), but there's not really much chance of either of our ideas happening methinks.

Thats true. Not everyone is motivated by Wings. Some are motivated by those STR bonuses xD.
I'd like to see how many RDD characters stuck around if the STR bonuses were removed and replaced with other dragon-like features.

I'd like to point out that none of you are half-dragon without DM approval. Far as I know, Dwagins the only one who has ever gotten DM approval.

Its how the trend works. I remember when everyone use to have tieflings, etc. If you pay attention Amia goes through race/class trends where you will see everyone and their mother with the same set up, and then with time it fades and changes.

I dislike the look of the wings, so I will never play one. Tiny wings on the back of a humanoid body just looks odd to me. The idea of flight with tiny wings like that is also silly. The only characters I think look decent as part dragon, are the ones with their skin color changed.

There's three or four of us running around, Rras and Jordis (my half gold) being two of them. I think there's a half white and a half battle (?) as well, but I could be wrong on that.

Moving on!

With the plethora of dragonkin - almost all are RDDs. It's the only non-requested way to get one... so -that's- what you're mostly seeing (with the exception of the previously mentioned four-ish halfers). And as far as the half dragons are concerned (or, at least Rras and Jordis both), they're nothing more than experiments - though disciples bother them for -completely- different reasons.

As for the wings, I wasn't motivated by those either. There's no RDD in my build, and it took a lot of convincing from other people to get me to allow Jordis to even grow some (partially because of my own hang ups, the DC cost, and the pain it would be IC). And that took almost six months, if not longer, IG. But! I won't say that's not a motivation, because it makes people feel special I guess.

I agree. I probably should have went that route, though none of my current characters really burn with hate for them..

You can lock the topic if you think it's inappropiate.

Dwagin: Grah! Well, Fine..! Dragons are the ultimate bosses, true enough. I feel like Beowulf, with its deep-seat in literature, has a pretty high say on how bad ass Dragons can be. But if they're bosses, then they are designed to be beaten! We just need a hero with a legendary sword!

I would have to say I agree with Maverick. Interest in the racial abilities, looks, or just the sheer concept of the character tends to be from what I have seen, unfortunately, trendy. Like you said... 'its like they're the new Genasi'. Next maybe tieflings will again be 'the new dragonkin/dragonblood'.

It reminds me of some faction roleplay. Some times there is a large influx of a group and heavy roleplay at a time, then it dies off. In a little while it will start gaining favor again, then follows the same route as before. Like the tide. Interest in group/religion/race...then interest in a different group/religion/race...

Tide rolls in...tide rolls out.

There are good RPers of exotic races, and piss poor ones. Just find the ones you like and RP with them. You can find some really quality genasi and dragonkin around. And you can also find their enemies. If you look, I bet you can find a bunch of very activist PCs. And in the FR setting, its not as if theyre realling activists. The common folk dont like dragonkin. Or genasi, or teiflings for that matter. Theyre rather xenophobic, and would be more likely to kill all the outsiders and mixed bloods than welcome them.

In regards to the wings, technically they are small for the humanoid body. Without any magic to support them, Dragon Disciples would probably only be able to fly for a limited time. ... Exactly how the widgets work :)

Pretty much, and the way I've been RPly taught, they can't really fly so much as "sorta flap stupidly to get in the air and float away." My half draggy is nearly six feet tall and wears fullplate all of the time. Being able to fly like it's no issue is ... silly.

Wings on dragon disciples are probably better for swimming than they would be flying.
