Of course it's legal.

I find it cuts down on some meta-gaming too.

It's really odd to see how when I make a new character on a main account they get treated very differently to the characters I make with my secret accounts.

Also player attitude is different. And not all of it for the better, unfortunately. I've seen very different sides to players I never thought possible and would never have experienced if I was playing on my main account.

If it's not legal, it needs to be. I have a few different accounts, because I have characters in a couple of different factions. I prefer to be able to deny other people the ability to metagame by associating my characters with a specific player, simply by observing my Login ID. For example, I very much do not want people to know that my Lolthite drow character is played by the same person as my paladin, since those two factions are very much at odds, and it would be really easy for people to be tempted to color their interactions with one of those characters based on suspicions that sensitive information might end up illegitimately in the other character's head.

I would never do such a dastardly thing, mind you, but it would be easy for a properly cynical player to suspect that I might. I prefer to simply not open that particular metagaming window.

Gamespy accounts? Yes.
Forum accounts with a stipulation: 1 OOC one. You can have more than 1 IC only ones to my understanding.

Multiple accounts is fine, but for reasonable use. No multiple votes in important IC polls, no harassing of players under alts, no sock puppeting, etc. The list could be quite comprehensive, but let's shorten it to "If you shouldn't do this anyway, you shouldn't do it with alts".

Thank you.
Now whoever reads this might begin to understand what it's like for a new player that's not in any little cliques.
I have one account, one character. It's all I need for now.

Multiple Accounts is OK. Some times people just don't want to be bothered, or it may be for character management purposes (too many PCs, need organization)

Any Sockpuppets (making an alternate account and then using it to pretend to be someone else) will be ousted, though, and made known to the general public.

Likewise, using multiple accounts or characters in an attempt to aid eachother in any way (such as being involved in eachother's affairs) is a strictly No-Go.

i've got 2 forum accounts ;p
but thats a necessity with smartphone internet layouts, it was impossible to read the forums on my phone before making the account and using amia_mobile.

but only 1 gamespy account. I've considered making a second account, but never really felt the point of it. Plus, more passwords and logins to remember

I have three or four, but use only one. Very, very rarely I use my second and seldom yet the third. I also can attest to the player attitude/reaction.

It is a sad fact, but true. >_<

Can't say I'm surprised that peoples attitudes change around known players/DMs. I've seen it happen to other people myself.

This happens, get over it.

If Im super pissed I may give a stranger lip service who gets in my face on a bad day, but not to my gf. Its not that I am always a dick or hiding that Im a dick. Its that mutual respect and love I have for her.

Same applies to all relationships.

Could you elaborate on this a bit? What exactly does it mean to be "involved in each other's affairs?"

In order to test that thesis , i think i will request a few characters to be moved to new Accounts and create a few more Forum accounts.

Let's see what happens.

Say if you got a paladin Joe and a fighter Butch. If Butch kills somebody and you then use Joe to defend Butch's actions its bad. This kind of involvement comes in many shapes and forms but the best way to avoid it is simply to avoid having your characters interact with each other in any way. It can so easily become very fishy.

Edit: As for the changed behaviour its nothing that can never be entirely avoided. If you had interactions with a person before you remember those interactions and view new actions in the light of previous events. Its only natural.

So, I'm thinking of a couple of players I know of (two at least; there are almost certainly more examples that I don't know of) who play characters who are some sort of close family to each other: siblings, spouses, parent/child, et cetera. And of course, when any of those characters get brought up in IC conversation in the presence of their family members, they are obviously quick to give their opinions of their relations, or leap to their defense, or whatever. (as well they should; it's what we'd all do for our own families, right?) This, obviously, amounts to a player using one character's voice to influence other people's opinions about another of his/her characters. It seemed casual enough whenever I've seen it that I didn't think twice about it, and I confess that I've considered doing the same thing, creating a brother for one of my own characters. Is this full-on Illegal with a capital I, or is it just something that's frowned on, tolerated as long as it doesn't devolve into muling or blatant sock puppeteering?

I agree with you completely, I personally have the one account in which I have a few characters on, this way, if someone needs me OOC wise people don't need to remember multiple account names. Also people often compliment me on my RPing and if someone sees me RPing on another character and they reconise it's my account name as the character they will know to receive the same RPing quality that I often deliever.

I hope that didn't come off as arrogant...

I'm actually also interested in the reasoning behind it, to be honest. I've known folks who have done it to be left alone, even though I prefer just asking to be left alone, I understand the reason behind it. Sometimes people just want a fresh start.

If you're doing it to see how people react to a new character without a recognizable log in, it is..in fact..a sort of social experiment. I think you're getting a bit defensive with Fay when it's not really necessary.

Oh well, I was just merely curious, social experiments online can be...interesting to say the least, I tend to be nice to anyone who is nice to me anyhow so I doubt my personality will shift regardless, I also have to wait a little while before I can actually play on Amia anyhow. =)

Digging this old Thread up again.

New Question arose;
- How does 'The playerbase' consider using Random Accounts to Place Unsigned Responses to IC forumposts?

For; In all honesty; I know easily whom wrote what with what character based upon the Forum-account nowadays.

Example
Anonymous wrote:
You, Fiendish Rat, Shall smell the strike of [Insert Deity here] before the daybreak; May [Insert Deity here] curse you tenfold; You pack rat!

-Unsigned

I generally skip most of the stuff that's in PC notice boards. Most of the responses are like:

- "PC reads message, after a small moment he goes away"
- "PC reads message, says something under his breath, THEN goes away"
- "PC reads message, writes something under it, either with or without name"
- "Someone defaces the post" lololololol.
- "Somewhere, someone does something" (laughing, brooding, or contemplating)

I't doesn't matter if the account is known to me or not. Even if I know OOC who's behind what message, it is irrelevant because 90% of the posts are written in the above way and my character can not respond to it IC in a meaningful way.

Sorry if I step someone on the toe, but I find most of PC notice stuff garbage and useless.

PC Notice boards to me are that: a place to post NOTICES. Some use it to write some IC happening, some use it to write something that belongs in PC Stories, etc. Look at the Arabel forums, it is much more tidy and NOTICES are not filled with crap like above.

idk if its such a big deal, I saw uberuce yesterday, not til the moment we parted ways did i realise "oh right yea thats uberuce" I just stuck with me pirate 'ar P yar...

but I get that people might act a bit different if your using toons on the same account ingame, its easy to get used to partying with friends, rather than staying utterly true to RP, that said its not hard to keep friendly waves in tells and the RP icly, and likewise I have no ooc hate to anyone, there are characters i've actively defended the realms against that with other toons I speak to on a regular basis, like that one voice set says, "all fun and games."

I haven't much of a comment on that, but I would guess thats one reason my posts remain empty half the time, no one reads them. also theres nothing stopping you happening to see notices of your own be grimmaced toward, spat upon, set alight, from some dark alleyway somewhere nearby, no one reacts to those sort of replys, they just ignore it as if its metagaming because its not a positive reply.

that said someone somewhere does something, is a little different. especially the ones with no names. if your going by no name should add descript, "the hooded man...what appears to be a fey...some sort of, half dragon half something else" that sort of thing.

saying not to post is a bit far, but I can agree too much spamage is no good.

Flavour. Everyone's free to ignore, though it's like most of the stuff in PC Stories has no impact on any other character, but are nice dressing.

I recommend more RP whether other characters will see or be influenced by it or not.

Even stuff like: Mister Fluffles walks over to the poster then suddenly bursts into a fit of sneezes.

It maybe irrelevant, or whatever, but to the writer it's more space to flesh out their character. And that should never be something to disallow.

PC Stories are nice to read, and its intended to be OOC to my character, its flavor and I am all for it. PC Notices should be just that, notices between characters or notices on specific locations -> interaction! I really don't care if a character is muttering under his breath or farting in front of the notice, because my character was not there and I cannot interact. Its spam, to me.

I don't even play on Arabel but I just like to browse through their forum and look at the notices and IC correspondence. Even from that glimpse I have a vague idea whats going on there. I'd like to do the same with Amia but I have to filter out most of the irrevelant stuff. At least DM Events are a seperate forum.

Personally I won't stop reacting with text that has no real effect. I just want to role play, and a 'reply' on the notices gives me an outlet to do so.

Also, if I make an original post of an event or a poster requesting help/resources I prefer to see people respond with how their character would in a story fashion just so that I know the original poster is being appreciated by another player. I much prefer a line saying "Fedoc looks at the poster which scratching at his groin." than no response at all.

I encourage it on my own.

Except that the kinds of posts that are being spoken abut have no content whatsoever, at all.

Colapops read the post and smirks smugly to herself.

"Hah," she murmurs, "what a dumb baby child."

Then she walks away...
