Hola!
I was wondering whether spellcraft and the mage spell *protection from spells* stack?
Running through an AoE spell effect on several occasions, I noticed that my reflex save and PFS were the only two joining forces.
Are there other individuals out there who was noticed this?

I am pretty sure Spellcraft's ability to help your spell save is capped. If it does contribute to your saves, the bonus, like your ability modifiers, are nullified if they breach the cap.

Saves vs Spells given by Spellcraft stacks with Protection from Spells, yes. It's supposed to. The Peacock wrote: I am pretty sure Spellcraft's ability to help your spell save is capped. Saves given from Spellcraft do count towards the overall 20 cap to saves when determining saves against spells. I.E. I have 50 Spellcraft(+10 vs spells), A total of +15 Fortitude mythalled onto my armor, and base of 12 Fort, a roll vs. Wail of the Banshee would look as 12 + 20 +1d20. , not 12 +25 +1d20. Again, Spellcraft saves count towards cap when made against spells. Might wanna try the Build Forum next time.

So immolation... Would you not want to get rid of say, plus five of mythalled fort saves and put the extra slots from that elsewhere?

I wouldn't. There are other effects that force a fortitude save other than spells, such as Death Arrow, Dev-Crit, or Death Attack. Relying on spellcraft to cover a weak save can leave you quite vulnerable when a mundane effect rolls by.

If you're only going to be fending off spells, yes. If you're going against dev, no. Remember, Spellcraft saves only count vs Spells, your roll against dev is going to be your base fort + your actual mythalled/item bonuses. In the example given, you'd roll 12+15 +1d20.
Anyway, buildforum is where this can be elaborated more.
Edit: What is it with DM's beating me to the punch, er..post, today? lol

Spellcraft bonus to saves only count against SOME spells, though it is most..
And as all bonuses to saves, it is capped at +20 max.
So if you have say .. 85(+18 to saves) spellcraft and +3 fort on an item, you'll be capped to +20 to fort not 21.

Not to mention the extra save for it is especially useful versus NPCs of higher power.

interesting side note even though it wasn't asked.
+5 to spellcraft on gear will give you +1 universal saves vs spells, unlike tumble it doesn't work off ranks.

Spellcraft save bonus doesn't apply to persistent AoE spells.

Lets say I have +11 reflex from gear and +6 from spellcraft, do the reflex from high dex add up to the +20 cap?

Bonus from your DEX modifier doesn't count toward the cap. Reflex save bonuses from items do, as well as Spellcraft.

Thanks for the repplies. Knowing that spellcraft only works against instant effect spells was quite valuable.
