I made a list as a bit of a reference for building projects...

1 tile exterior stone (one level)
- 20 batches of granite (or sandstone/brick/wood, depending on model)
- 20 batches of mortar
- 20 batches of wooden planks (all of the same kind)
- 20 poles of wood (all of the same kind again)
- 2 batches of crystal or glass for every window
- 2 batches of iron or bronze
- For towers and multiple level tiles you multiply this figure by 1.5 for every extra floor.

1 tile interior
- 2 batches of granite (or sandstone/brick/wood, depending on model)
- 1 batch of marble (stone floor) or wooden planks (wooden floor)
- 1 batch of iron or bronze
- 1 piece of furniture (chairs, benches, carpets) for every 3 PLCs of the same kind.

This is the bare stuff. If you want golden door knockers I want to see a batch of gold, etc.

It's a rule of the thumb affair, but it gives a hint in the proper direction.

Thanks for posting these guidelines; before I didn't really have a sense of scale for building materials.

Aye.. I think it'll help me put something into perspective for Illyana.

If someone wanted to modify or renovate an existing structure (other than adding another floor, which already has values offered), could it be a safe assumption to work from to take the value for building the structure and then quarter or halve it?

I assume disco or who ever deals with it will make sure the building materials fit what is being done, like if you were building a "Fort Summer" they would not ask for mortar or granite but increase the amount of wood

Nah. Make it simple.

Same things for everything. Even if it goes against Realism, it sure as hell ease the pressure on Designers and makes it easy to calculate.

Can one buy a house or apartment (condo) instead of renting?

It's been said before that individual-player housing is infeasible, due to the fact that there are thousands of different active characters. Giving each a separate area would multiply the size of the module several times over.

it would be simple for them, all they would be removing is the 20 batches of mortar if its a log house/fort, maybe toss in more iron for nails.

Mind that this is for building projects that got a 'go' from the DM team. I don't care how much you collect, I will build nuffink without the DMs agreeing.

Reinforcing the point of not bothering -any- designers or developers about faction bases. (includes Disco)

After somethings approved by the DM team the designers will contact you.

I'm either insane or I can't find wooden poles. Does this mean something else?

Must all wood be the same kind throughout? I.E. can your "poles" be oak but your planks be yew? I feel like it would be okay- after all a number of houses have pine frames and oak floors (such as the one I grew up in).

Poles I would assume mean Logs, ie: raw wood that is not cut by a sawyer

gaston was asking me this earlyer, poles = logs, at least one would assume so. I first told him go make an ironwood quaterstaff >_> thinking he meant pole arms...

So you're where it came from.

Is Disco's point guidelines or actually enforced rules?

It's very much a guideline, and was very much lost for a good period of time without me knowing of its existence, even.

Post subject:  Re: Building materials.

Can it be enforced, Please? It would give the Job system a upswing and perhaps actually back claims on forums up that Player A B and C Actually worked their arses off to get the goods/materials for their idea.

Post subject:  Re: Building materials.

Oh materials are required, all right. But the amounts are guidelines, and the costs will reflect the amount of work done more than "if you got this and that many planks you will get this and that for tiles" in exact terms.

Post subject:  Re: Building materials.

Ah, Like - We've massed X Amount of materials for a 15x15 Tile Castle, But since we are lacking in RP on the construction, there ain't gonna be that much of a castle.. .Just a small keep?
Or the opposite way around.

We've massed Y amount of materials, Which is much less than X, but since we're put in a whole lot more work in the Construction, were still getting a 15x15Tile castle?

No, it's just that those are Disco's estimates for the work he was doing and I'm not Disco.

I know this is a pretty epic thread resurrection, but some of us are trying to figure out what size a tile translates to, in feet/yards/meters/etc. Or, if there's been another thread since this one with more clarification.

Author:  Anatida [ Sat, Apr 04 2015, 4:52 AM ]
Post subject:  Re: Building materials.

Some of the DMs were working on an updated list I think, but I haven't heard anything about it in a while.

A "tile" is one red square in the toolset and one red square in the toolset is 10 meters, or 32ft 9in.

EDIT: Something that I think is relevant for players to note as they work on their initiatives: We have a 'guideline' of an interior area being a 2:1 ratio with the exterior footprint. So if the building is 1x2 tiles then the interior can be 2x4 tiles. Multiple stories can be utilized if appropriate and a DM approves it. Some of the older areas don't follow this guideline, but they are considered "grandfathered" I think.
