| Post subject: | Cult of Bhaal and Myrkul |
I am interested in started a cult dedicated to two thirds of the Dead Three; Bhaal and Myrkul. My reason? There are no factions dedicated to pants-wetting anxiety. I want to see a cloak-and-dagger faction that instills fear in the populace. To undermine the teachings of Kelemvor and have them be reminded that death is scary, it is inevitable, and it won't be enjoyable. Sorta like.. When Myrkul was in power and people held a funeral service for a departed friend, Myrkul would materialize just above the gravesite and stare at the congregates, reminding them that their end is neigh as well... That's the kind of scary I wish to see. A quick run down of general lore: Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul were adventurers, and some would consider them friends. They wanted to have lotsa power, approximately over nine thousand! When attempting to overthrow Jergal, the god of the dead was bored of his job and stepped aside for the three. He allowed the three to choose from his portfolios. Bane chose Tyranny and Strife, Bhaal chose Murder, Myrkul chose death. They were all killed in the Time of Troubles. However, Bhaal and Myrkul are essentially unable to return to power, which is why they aren't on the deity list. The goal of the cult, on a roleplay level, is to be a dual-cult. Necromancers will be in the Myrkul half of the faction, Melee oriented PC's will be in the Bhaal half. The cult believes that with each grisly, ritualistic murder they commit, holy Bhaal will be strengthened, despite the fact that he'll never rise to power again, (But that part is un-important, they're sociopaths!) This Cult will also aim to be somewhat covert. No one should know your face, no one should know your name. You should be the boogeyman that children are afraid of. You should be the reason people will never walk alone in the night. Each murder should be grisly and the cadaver should be visible to the public, that way they know that death will come for them. Here is just a quick list of the type of charatcers we want and do not want. We don't want: Paladins, COTs, Barbarians, Druids, and shifters. We don't want: Good or chaotic aligned PC's. NE and LE are the only acceptable alignments. We don't want: Goblins, orcs, kobolds or other montrous races. Base races only. (Certain outsiders may be accepted) Obviously, this cult is produced and regulated by people who are slightly off their rocker. While crazy PC's are acceptable, we don't want those that are crazy to a comedic or annoying extent. It should be obvious that you are a bloodthirsty sociopath, but that bloodlust can be maintained to some extent. We want you to screw the rules, but we aren't spreading chaos. We want systematic fear in the populace, but nothing that'll throw them into a panick-induced riot. That's the basic rundown of what I want to achieve and what I'm looking for in the faction. Please remeber that it's a cult that worships deities that'll never return to power! Send me a PM if you are interested. If I forgot any important details regarding lore with Bhaal and Myrkul, please add to it. If you really want to know more about the dead three, check out Forgotten Realms wiki. I apologize that this post is a bit wordy, but I want to be as clear as possible. I'm also typing this up on my iPhone and it's taken me about 45 minutes. Hopefully, people are interested and this faction will work! Thanks for reading! Post edited: 2:50am by author. |

Do you want people to list their names if they want to join? Or do you want to work this into your RP and then have people join? |

Clerics are allowed. There's a feat you can take to be a cleric of a recently dead god, IIRC. Oh, and Zetsumei can't wait to torture, beat and burn you. |

I made a Bhaalist a few months ago, but I stopped after the third day as I noticed playing on opposing fields really is annoying. |

Aye, I wouldn't suggest being two PC's on directly opposing sides. It just makes things weird... but hey, it's up to you if you want to do that. |

How the crap do you make a cult for the dead three, when one is alive? The dead 'two' maybe? It doesn't make sense. |

He said he wants to make a cult of the two that remain dead, leaving Bane out. |

Best of luck with it, but there will be many difficulties. One important one is the 'killing people covertly' part. It will be hard to get people's permission for you to just kill their character, you have to engage them with RP, give an out, etc. which then makes staying covert and killing people quickly much harder, because eventually other rock up, and then you have witnesses. Then you have the occasional metagamer who may give your character's identity away. Just a few things to be aware of when running a violence and sacrafice based faction, coming from a player who did just that for 3 or 4 months. But yeah best of luck, sounds great |

Bane betrayed Bhaal? I checked a few sources but never learned of this. How did Bane betray him? |

| Post subject: | Re: Cult of Bhaal and Myrkul |
Bane killed a whole bunch of Bhaal's followers to gain a power boost to retrieve one of the Tablets of Fate from the Triad I believe it was, weakening Bhaal massively to the point where Mask aded by Cyric could get him. I found that when Genar_detkasa and I were running a cult of Bhaal about a year ago. I can't recall what sourcebook it was from (but it was from a 2e sourcebook, not a novel), but I could go look for you (it would be delayed since I'm about to retire, though). |
