Windows 7(x64) with an ATI Radeon 5870 graphics card.

My display driver crashes when playing NWN. It usually happens approximately 15 minutes from when I start the application, but I noticed it happens more often in certain areas and no at all in others.
The game crashes, then it goes to the Desktop, with the message "display driver ATI radeon family stopped responding and has successfully recovered." showing.

After doing some research, I couldn't find any fixes to this problem-even updating the drivers didn't work.
I noticed others are having this problem with both NWN and NWN2.
I experimented a bit, trying different configurations. Still, could not find a solution.

Anyone else having this problem?

Am using Windows xp and an ATI 4800, using the 10.2 drivers did fix the problem for me, you might as well give it a try I wager.

ATI AI set to Standard in the CCC?
Shiny Water turned off?
Dynamic Lights turned right down?

10.4 works fine with my HD5770. Well as fine as fine can be with how disgusting backwards compatability on video drivers is.

Those are the settings for my HD5770 and I can run NWN for several hours without crashing. One of the major issues is simply that backward compatability for these older games is ass. It simply doesn't exist. If you want a full proof method, go searching for a video card that's about six years old, shove it in your second PCIE slot, and toss both displays into a CVM switch, or just switch the display plug to your monitor when you want to play an older game.

Make sure to disable desktop compositon by checking it in the compatibility tab for the properties of the shortcut.

I think butchering the drivers by reverting to the 9 series is wrong because the 5800 and 5900 series were designed to tackle games DX11 compatibilities. (which, unfortunately don't exist because everything is designed to be x-box 360 or playstation 3 compatible) If you want to play old games for hours, you do what Selvec did and purchase a 5700 series.

Personally, I just live with it.

Bah! My 5700 still doesn't play old games you twit. 5900 is just overkill, and 5800 is to expensive in this area of the world.

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll try a trick or two and see if anything changes.
I think ATI owes me a beer for this :-p

Will keep you updated.
