Post subject:  Questions on pvp situations.

Hey I got a few questions
1.What if your i a hostile situation, where you know theres gonna be pvp.And the other person just runs away or portals out.does that give permission to attack.example:Banite and a helmite meet in the forrest and the banite is rping bullying or threatening someone.you start rping with the Banite etc. and right befoe a fight happens they run or portal?

2.if your in a faction and someone above you orders you to kill someone.do they same rules apply as in an asasination.?

3.I know it is but just for the record starting to buff in a hostile situation is considered a hostile action and you can attack?

If they Run off randomly in the middle of a hostile situation, you may attack. If they walk off or are otherwise, obviously, taking an 'Out' provided or an opening to get out of the PvP Validly - don't attack.

No. PvP Rules still apply unless you inform the player involved or a DM beforehand.

Yes it is. The best analogy came from one of our old DMs and Balance Crew.

Buffing is akin to setting up a powerful gun. Your best mates will stop by and say "Hey, Jerry, you're setting up your gun again? Nice!". Those you're hostile to, however, will think it's for use against them and are fully within their right to stop them without warning.

So yes, casting a spell in a hostile situation is valid grounds for instant attacking

How is running off not taking an out? Sometimes it's the only valid IC out in any given situation. Saying that's valid reason to attack kind of defeats the purpose of the rule.

Turn and Run without RP isn't. Half the time it's them turning and running off to rest / buff, sadly. Especially if the party you're hostile with has tried to get you to back down such as "Ditch the weapons" or "Get down" or "Hold"

So you're saying if I just run away with no RP first, I'm fair game.

But if I RP first and then run away, I'm not, because that's my out.

How much RP before running is enough?

Well if you inform someone ooc that they are targeted (the person in mind is a ooc friend anyway) do you have to do it right before you atttack.say i told her yesterday and she gets killed today. It wont just be a kill it will be a kill and bring them in and rp.

If your 'Out' is 'Put your weapon away', and you instead run, RP or not, you might still get your ass kicked.

Turning and running without RP, however, is 99.9% of the time a clause of 'Free Game'.

yes but as rule 11 I think it is, if they leave to buff and come back AKA zone out and wait for budys and what not they cant comeback and start nuking people because its a new PVP encounter.

also did a DM not long ago say something like if you rest you are forsaking your option to come back and fight, because IC you would not sleep midbattle with people after you so clearly you have "escaped" and are no longer wishing to fight with them and dont deem them a threat.

Consider the following situation, which is quite common.

Person A has a valid reason for wanting to kill Person B. So valid in fact that Person A cannot possibly justify letting Person B live if he can help it.

Person A is required to give an IC out. The only possible one would be to let Person B flee, while Person A trips on a rock or something.

Person B knows if he runs into Person A he's a dead duck unless he flees and escapes.

What you're saying is if he does run into him, he actually has to stand around and chat for a bit, in order to force the player of Person A to back down from the PvP. Because it then becomes a valid out.

Seriously, do we need lawyers for this stuff or what?

And don't even get me started on rule 11, which makes absolutely no IC sense in the slightest.

It makes perfect sense. It is the only thing stopping a conflict from occuring, walking up to that person 2 hours later, and killing them without a word ic or OOC because I" had reason to before."

O, and as for walking out, it only takes a simple emote before you jam the mouse click, like "*turns to walk away*" or something equally nonthreatening.

I agree with it in this context. But there have been many situations where contact was again made 5 minutes later, while the parties were still mutually hostile, where stopping to RP it out made no sense at all ICly.

That is when you, between that 5 minutes, send a message to the other party and say "hey, if anything happens immediately/this reset/ etc, are we still good to go for PvP?" Solves it neatly and you do not need to "redo" 30 minutes of RP if neither party is so inclined.

And what if there are ten players on each side? The rules states that all parties must agree beforehand.

It's not difficult at all to say "Can you ask around on your side for us?". That can be done in general chat.

It actually is pretty difficult, depending on the situation. But it is what it is.

I think common sense again should prevail.

If you do not give suffient time for your opponent to react then you can expect to get smacked in the face.

Say a warrior and a lumberjack meet.

Warrior 'You slept with my daughter prepare to die"
Lumberjack 'Haha yeah right"
Warrior "Now you've done it"
Lumberjack 'You'll never catch me" 'Begins fleeing' (then runs)

That to me would be yes let him run

Warrior 'You slept with my daughter prepare to die"
Lumberjack 'Haha yeah right"
Warrior "Now you've...." (Lumberjack starts running)

That to me would be smack him down.

Am I wrong?

Rules exist for situations in which common sense fails. If everyone had the exact same definition of common sense we wouldn't need rules at all.

Where you get a problem is when the rules themselves lack common sense, and people start getting into situations where there is no practical way to handle it within the rules.

Stay within the rules as they're stated.

Take screenies.

The DMs will deal with the problem, if there is one, and if you're consistantly staying in the rules and exhibiting good sportsmanship, you will probably be taught instead of punished.

At least, that's been /my/ experience.

I know. I was just saying as a general "how to" guide, mostly for the OP.

To me that sounds like you're not accepting the out and are in fact challenging them. They look like fighting words to me ... you're not accepting the out gracefully, but instead taunting them back.

Post subject:  Re: Questions on pvp situations.

As far as the running away bit goes, don't take that as a free ticket to say whatever you want ICly and not fear repercussions.

For instance, if my character gives you the option of walking away to avoid death and you say "Yeah well I could kill you anyways. *smirks then turns to walk away*" my PC still has an IC reason to bash your skull in from behind as you walk away.

If you are planning on avoiding the situation, make sure you avoid it and don't do any further provocation. It can only lead to messy ends, especially when the one who just "smart-mouthed" and turned his back assumes he is now OOCly invincible because he took his out. Or so he thought. The moment you provoke further hostilities, you forfeit your right to that out imo.

ICly, my character won't take further verbal abuse without attacking if he's already told you to leave peacefully and quietly. And he will attack you and try as hard as he can to kill you at that point.

That said, I hate PvP and always hope I never have to engage in it. So give me a break. :(

The "Run away, rest, heal" thing is lame, espically if it's under the OOC assumption the persons taking the out.
