I play a human at the moment she only speaks common but with an intelligence of 14 I know she can learn a few more. What would be the best way to go about learning another language icly and how long should/would it take to learn the language and lastly would some languages be harder to learn then others?

To go through the RP of learning the Language is going to be a lot up to you and the assisting player. I've tried it myself in the past with one player who was using a literal translator when pointing at things trying to have my PC guess the correct word; a sort of immersion style.

Another character I helped teach written language by providing a rough "key" on letter-to-letter (although draconic to common in that fashion is not easy). Also used common phrases when written such as "Hello", "Where is the bar?", "Thank-you very much."

One system with dice I tried with a teaching PC was to toss d20's. The closer the numbers matched between pupil and instructor, the better the learning progressed. The match of lower numbers was good progress on basic words, and higher numbers good progress on proper setences. The split being 1-10; 11-20
For Example:
Each player rolls 1d20 coming out with a 7 and a 18. There was little progress.
The next IC day of such RP, they roll 12 and 14. There was good progress on simple phrases [perhaps learned how to ask for the time of day and understand the reply].
A few days in, they roll an 8 and 8. There was significant progress with basic words! (The pupil will have more luck picking out simple words when others are speaking the said language.

So it's player agreement on the method, and it's some fairness of what you believe is appropriate to RolePlay for a time-ratio of learning. The Dice method I mentioned is very simplistic and was not very successful without being able to meet frequently.

Just some things to help you brainstorm.
