Sorry for making a thread about this, but the one where it was being spoken about spears is locked.

Anyway!

Will the HAK change to spears work only on spears crafted after the HAK was implemented or will they work for old spears too?

I got a spear for Auron, thinking about his full rebuild, but before making it I want to make sure if it is already possible to equip it in one hand or if we need to wait until.. March, I think it was, when the HAK will be fully implemented, provided Disco made all his tests.

Spears didn't change at all. Tridents have already been changed.

I remember them being one-handed at the test module.

You're thinking of tridents.

The Tridents can be made to look like spears.

They added spear tips to available trident heads, so you can wield a "short spear" in one hand which is really just a special trident.

Oh. >.>

Good thing I did not touch my DCs yet, then. I will need them for the Monkey Grip widget. :P

Spear might have been one handed for a wee bit in the test module when it was being discussed I think. Disco decided he was just going to edit the spear and make it one handed, then more discussion happened, and trident got changed.

I was going to build a shifter that used the spear, but I guess it needs to be the trident. I'm fine with that except for this little gem from NWNwiki:
Quote:
Weapon focus in the trident is ineffective in combat. (The bonus to attack is not used.)

I was going to have my shifter take WF and EWF in the spear/trident, but from reading that, I guess it would be a waste of feats. And without those feats, I guess taking the trident would be a waste of time.

Given that WF doesn't work for the trident, I have to wonder if making the spear one-handed as well would be considered?

No, it was considered and decided against.

Epic Weapon Focus still works. So it's not quite as effective as you would hope, but it's better than nothing. It's the only way you can get a one-handed spear, unless you want to pay 25 DCs for a Monkey Grip widget.

WF is +1 AB. Thats it. It's really not THAT big of a miss given you get a piercing one handed weapon that does 1d8 damage.

I know some builders will disagree. But unless your planning on min/maxing your character so you get every little bit of juice from it, you 1 AB isn't going to be missed. Espically on a shifter.

One AB is quite a lot, but speaking as the man who created the shifter forms, it will not hurt your forms at all.

Especially since, as a shifter, weapon feats really mean nothing once you've shifted.

What? They make a difference if the form you're using is holding the weapon. If you have greataxe feats and turn into a minotaur that uses a greataxe, the feat count.

Right of course, I guess I just meant that its makes next to no difference, especially unless the weapon is the same...and none of the shapes use a trident and so it makes no difference in that specific case.

Well what about this statement from the shifter thread:
Quote:
...we're looking at merging held weapons with creature weapons, so unarmed forms no longer suffer.

I take that to mean that a trident and any applicable feats would be used by the shifted form in the event the form doesn't already have its own weapon. Am I misunderstanding this?

Oh, you mmisunderstand a bit.

Currently, forms that hold weapons merge stats from the weapon you hold. So if you're holding a +5 wepaon, any weapon your shifter polymorph form holds no matter what kind, is also +5. But if it's unarmed, nothing from yuor weapon counts at all. You could be holding a +5, 1d10 damage weapon but it will only be a +1 claw.

Now, your weapon will count towards the unarmed form just like the weapon. The feats won't count but the stats on the weapons wll. So in the previous example, that claw will become a +5, +1d10 damage claw.

Ah, yes, I completely misunderstood that. Thanks for the clarification.

Is this also the case for a Druid maybe wearing a set of enhanced weapon gloves or just items in the weapon slot?

And the big one... can I hat a pair of Sai?

Just weapons. Gauntlets never merge in any form.
