Heyo, everyone. Some of you may have noticed my disapearance lately--but I have a small problem!

NWN ain't workin', neh!

Whenever I attempt to boot up, it... doesn't. Like, literally. The startup screen shows, but when I hit play, it just... dies.

Something about how Windows can't run the program... I'm lost and confused. Can someone please help?

As for those who RP on a daily basis with my characters, I'm sorry! I'm working as best I can. T_T

Whats your O.S.?
Whats your Computer Configuration?
Have to bought any new parts since this has been happening?
Changed anything just before this started happening?
Have you tried disabling the intro movies, and all the other usual suspects?

Did you just reinstall Nwn? Sounds terribly much like what happened to me.

I can't run the game through the Launcher anymore - the start screen with Play, DM Client and Toolset options, among others. Did you try running nwnmain directly? Works for me, I can't be arsed to figure it out.

If you use Vista, try right clicking NWN and running it as an Administrator.

Same as me - don't use the launcher and just start it manually.

Running it as administrator is your best bet. That's what happened to me.

After running the game as Administrator and the annoying atari logo loads, then the minotaur blaa blaa. Before you click atall, press Alt + Tab (as many times as needed) and select NWN from the small box that will appear.

When running NWN in vista it puts the game in the background, so your clicking on the desktop. NWN does -not- like this and will crash.

Would like to point out this is my first nice comment ever.

Just add "Disable Intro Movies=1" (Without quotes) to your nwn.ini under [Display Options] heading.

It is case sensitive and has spaces.

Also in nwn.ini under [Display Options], again case sensitive, if the lines are not there, add them. If they are there, change the values.

AllowWindowedMode=1
FullScreen=1

Those 3 together should help.

You could try this as well Paradox. It may work.

Also make sure all the .ini files in your nwn folder are not marked as read only. This can happen in Vista/W7. Is annoying. You can do that by right clicking the files and selecting properties, by unchecking the box next to 'read only' and clicking apply then ok.

*Edit* Display options Sorry, didn't have my glasses on.

Is herea way to make NWN run in an unusual window size, such as 1280x720? Just I have a wide screen, and that would be so much more useful.

Under [Display Options] in the nwn.ini change the settings on the lines for Width/Height to:

Width=1280
Height=700

And refresh rate, to equal that of your display's native rate.

I tried that. As soon as I ran the program it changed itself to 1024x768
Edit: And when I tried 1024x720, it changed itself to 800x600

Ingame, go to video options and 'change resolution' or something similar, the top option.

Doesn't work. If I make it 1280 x (anything around 800) it becomes fullscreen. If I make it x anything less than 768, the resoultion shrinks to 1024*768.

Hmmm, could I do it from regedit?

Will cause the game to go into fullscreen regardless.

A "1" is "ON" while a "0" is "OFF".

So you'd want to set the fullscreen=0 and AllowWindowedMode=1.

I have my resolution set @ 1600 X 900 (when my native is 1620 X 1080) and it works BEAUTIFULLY.

Regards,

I have:

FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1
Width=1024
Height=720

And as soon as I start up NWN, the resolution changes to 800x600. In fact, whenever I have height less than 768, it changes the resolution in game to 800x600.

Update your video card drivers or if it started to happen after the update then simply roll back to the previous drivers. Should fix the problem.

The problem has existed a year, even with numerous video card updates, but it wasn't so much a problem wit Vista as I could move the top of NWN off the screen to rescue those piexels, with 7 I can't.
