Books, quests, areas, anything. Is Amia looking for it? Some things and not others? All things? No things?

Just wondering.

I'd be interested to know as well. I have so many ideas for just quirky little books and such. Especially quests. I'd imagine areas would be much more intensive to implement.

The invite for players to submit ideas for areas, lore, loot, and etc has always been open, unless I'm mistaken. So yes, Logic, in other words.

Just remember even if the story and lore are great, sometimes things can't be implimented becaue of balance, server policy, and/or Amia's setting.

Any time complaints about loot or gear have come up, the DM Team always points out that players are free to submit their own designs for items. To my knowledge, the amount of items submitted by players has been about zero.

Books can easily be put up on the forum and AmiaWiki, to help trim down on some of the server load.

I'd be happy to design some items if I were given some guidelines/item needs.

A.k.a. what kind of items are needed right now?

*clears throat* Disagree.

http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB2/viewtop ... highlight=

There was this thread several months ago. Quite a number of items suggested by players, including myself. I can dredge up a couple of other threads if pressed. To my knowledge none have been approved or added. Maybe they were and I haven't seen them. If this is the case then I think it a mistake on the part of staff not to say so and announce it publicly, as it encourages further submissions and input from the playerbase.

Not saying they should have been, but the thread died without a definitive response, a thumbs up or down, or a comment that they were inappropriate, overpowered, etc. The comment in response to Mago's post I don't consider a real response, but read it for yourself and disagree if you must. The lack of information or feedback on such things, for me at least, inhibits the desire to submit more. Even a definite "it's too good, but maybe try this" directionally would not produce such a response from me. Many of the suggestions were prompted by just such a statement as you made above by a DM in that thread.

Cool. What about quests or areas?

An item would be more readily acceptable if it was presented as more than an item type followed by a handful of (often uber) stats. Including a name and description/bio of the item is very helpful. Saying "Add some more arrows/kukris/helms" is not quite as helpful.

Another guideline to remember when trying to present new item: It doesn't have to be super-omg-uber. If you cannot imagine your character going without a certain piece of gear, then it's too powerful. If a certain piece of gear makes you think "Boy, this'll make running the Abyss/Manor/Gauntlet a breeze!", it's too powerful. If it looks like it would cost the average player 25 DCs to request, it's too powerful.

I cringe at some of the suggestions in that thread, because it tends to look more like someone trying to sneak in a DC request for their character as a piece of readily available loot.

Your comment above is fairly taken.

However, in that light it would be more accurate to say "player submitted items have been overpowered and under described" not "players don't submit items".

Secondly, in fairness, the thread in question was entitled "Epic Loot and Beyond" so the items submitted were targeted to the very high end of the scale. If we missed the target then your comments above, in that thread, would have been welcome, such that revisions/alterations/etc could be made in an attempt to tune them to acceptable levels or provide a compelling backstory/explanation for their existence.

I'll be resubmitting items for consideration either in that thread or this one.

What Maglorine said.
Because there are no epic level helms out there, we raised some suggestions.
I'd like to hear some alternative suggestions rather than cries of overpowered, which does nothing to help the situation.

One thing I'll say for certain, don't submit helms that use the Wyvern Crown graphic. That's for DC items and special quest rewards only. All others are fair game to my knowledge. (Plus, that's one ugly helm)

No wyvern crown, no crystal shields, no fish, I would have preferred no dire rat, no Dragon Shield designs for tower or large. Basiucally: Only the things you can craft already in game, appearance wise. We reserve several models for crafting and DC items and quest items.

Actually, last I checked, Combust will give the reply "Target is already under this effect" if you attempt to cast it on an already burning target. Or perhaps that's just Inferno.

Either way, it'd be lag inducing. Just like any other onhit cast spell property.

If you cast it on someone yep. But try putting it on a weapon as an "On Hit" effect. Seemingly stacks, does a hell of a lot of damage.

Are there any guidelines/standards for player-submitted content? Tags, script names, blueprint categories, etc.?

Author:  Selvec Darkon [ Sun, Jun 06 2010, 1:20 AM ]
Post subject:  Re: Player-submitted content

Use the Mythal System as a standard, that works quite well. Anything over is touch and go, though may be accepted.

Post subject:  Re: Player-submitted content

Item standards are good to know too, but I was more looking for things that a quest-maker would need to know.

Post subject:  Re: Player-submitted content

If you have item -descriptions- send them to me (especially if they are used to describe new HAK weapons). Powers I'm not so interested in, but you can throw on suggested powers. That said I will take any descriptions for anything that anyone wants to submit. That includes if you see Monsters that have no descriptions.

The reason I say descriptions is because text is easier to move around and refine over erfs. I don't speak for either the development team or the DM's with the above either, however i do require help on the creative side of things because its the most time consuming.

That was a reply to Selvec, since I know he's interested in that. The topic is also player submitted content, that involves anything and everything that players want to submit not just what you want to do.

Tormaks also correct, you have to nag the hell out of Disco until he capitulates, and then you realise that you've been had and he's got the stirrups and saddle ready and he's not afraid to use the whip.

According to my knowledge, the players are free to suggest any improvements or additions. If you really have some good ideas to add in Amia contact Disco.

Right, apologies for misinterpreting. I didn't mean to seem selfish. I just thought that maybe, having posted what I did on a mind that should have been sleeping, I had been unclear.

Disco has a mini-module that has some (rather basic, but better than nothing) comments on design intended mainly for people looking to submit faction areas. Obviously, the more you know about working in the toolset, the better.

I have been working on some quests for Amia. I personally would love to have osme player submitted ideas for other quests. If you have some please feel free to PM them to me. You can either send it in list form i.e.:
  • Step 1
  • Step 2
  • Step 3
Or you can send it in story form. I can't promise that I can use all the ideas, but I would love the oppertunity to look at them and do my best to make them work with our system.

Cheers!

Is this publicly available? I'm eager to continue work on my quest, but I don't want to bother Disco when I know he's busy.

Waiting until someone is not busy is all very well when you're in a post office and there's about a dozen people ahead of you in the queue collecting their pensions and buying one of every bloody stamp. ;)

You may as well shoot him a PM and wait for him to get back to you.
