OK, so.
I start my game up last night,it's just fine.
Today, I can only run it under Administrator.
I say "f this" and reinstall. Now, I can't log in to /any/ server. Any server I go to, any playername I use, it says "Your playername has been refused by the server". I've reinstalled again. Same deal.
Help?
I'm running Diamond on Win XP. Yes, I have the HoTU correction.

My only guess could be the need to do the critical reinstall or whatever, since one of the pathces doesn't like to work correctly.

I think that may be it too. Happened to me before I did critical rebuild.

Sounds like a connection issue. Are you at home? Or school?
Have you recently installed a new antivirus or software firewall?
There could also be an issue if someone else is also playing nwn on the same connection.
Anything intterupting your communication between the server and your machine can do that. AVG and a couple Antiviruses/firewalls can cause these issues as well as something completely out of your hands (Like an ISP issue.)

I'm home, and the only one in my house or on my connection that plays NWN. i don't use avg ('cause it sucks); no new software or hardware.
Just got home from the store, will try rebuild.

Well, that didn't work. *Sigh* Gonna go with a defrag, reinstall path. It's been a while, might as well give it a shot.

Google search on that error
Check your nwncdkey.ini file and see if it matches what is printed on your manual or sticker.
Also if you're installing so that you can play under a limited account, don't go for the default 'C:\Program Files.....' path, since limited users have limited write permissions.
To be honest though, I've never come across this myself, so I'd suggest reading through a couple of the non-spammy search results.

To me it sounds like the 1.69 critical rebuild ... you did install it?
If so, I've no idea.

I installed the rebuild. It didn't work. Reinstalled everything, defragged, cleaned my drive, you name it, did everything BUT reinstalling Windows.
Installed it again. Got the patch directly from Bioware.
Nothing.
NWN is the /only/ program that's acting up; I can't figure for the life of me why.
The keys are fine, I had to get them replaced by Atari, 'cause they didn't work. But they're directly copied from the .ini file I was running that was working just fine until yesterday.

So.
After a full re-install of my OS (TWICE, thanks), and NWN and allll the overrides ....
Plus five hours of searching for drivers that (for whatever godforsaken reason) aren't on my driver disc...
I'm back.

I had something like that randomly happen 2months ago.
My Monitor Drivers un-installed themselves.
... it was not fun
