Player- DM? DM Yes? Player-Oh HI!! DM-Hello there. Player- LOL..soooo.... DM- [Moves onto something else] Player- How u doin? Hello? Can u take 1267 XP off me? Why u ignoring me... HELLO?? Has this ever happened to you? Just trying to make some friendly conversation with a DM and suddenly poof, like dust in the wind, they are gone. Well, there's a very simple explanation for this. When we're on the client, we're usually up to something. An event, or helping another player. If we're not up to something, a few of us do little "we're here, we're queer, need a bug fix?" shouts and are then treated to a barrage of tells. Tells like "Hello?" and "DM?" and "Poke giggle lulz" are usually lost in the mix. Especially if we're in an event. The quickest way for us to know if we can help you, is to know what we can help you with. therefore when doing a tell for help, be as precise as possible in the FIRST tell. "PVP dispute issue, need help." "Pardon me, can I have some XP taken off?" " There's some excellent Rp over here!" ..And stuff like that. If you receive an answer of "Sorry, busy" or something similar, please don't take it personally. Odds are we're typing a load of text to other players. Sometimes we can't answer at all. So please, please, please when asking for a DM's help, ask the entire question if you can. If you've a lengthy question, say " I have a lengthy question, let us know and we'll try our best to let you know if we can respond or help you in any way. I hope this makes it easier for both players and DM's to communicate with one another in the future! Lally |

It's OK to ask a question, too. No need to ask "Can I ask a question?" first. |

There is only one reasonable reply to "Can I ask a question", which is: "No, and I will now punish you, because "Can I ask a question" is a question, which you just asked without permisson!" |

When they migrate away from the northern region due to ice melting, they become depressed because it's not cold or snowy enough. So they adjust to the new environment, and you'll see polar bears loitering at malls drinking hard liquor to get by. In Helsinki, for example, you have to watch where you step, else you'll trip over a passed-out polar bear on the street. Horrible, I say. (this is what we call "keeping a topic floating at the top of the forum to make as many people as possible read it", btw) |

Seriously, though: you're very easily missed, if you just state something generic. The eye and brain simply don't register things such as "DM?," Hello?" or "Is there anybody there?" Don't hesitate to get straight to the point. That way, you save everyone's time and I'm more likely to remember you. I often cannot respond straight away, because I might be in the middle of writing several long tells to several PMs. If I know your business, I can mentally put you in line and prioritize my responses. If you don't say what you need, you'll be the very last in line, and therefore likely to be forgotten. Think about it yourself: it's much easier to remember that someone needed XP docked, someone was stuck and someone wanted to ask about a character concept, than it is to remember how many people asked "DM?" while you were held up elsewhere. It also tells who has urgent business and who can wait. Mind that all this isn't a conscious method, but it seems to be how the mind works, looking back at my DMing. |

I tend to talk to DM's as I would a cop. Politely. "If a DM has a few moments of spare time may I please recieve some assitance with a character issue?" "yessir" "yes'm" "please" "thank you very much" etc. |

over the years I have had alot of fun with the DMs, Lally has been one of the main ones as I seem to have scared off Hex with my questions that he never loged back on after that night... they were still valid questions.. remember the time. Hey Lally I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish but... Tormaks Nes'ek event was the best event of all time. OF ALL TIME!!!. ahhhh good times still no on that brothel?..... ok |

That's the only reason I am overly polite to you and ask "Excuse me, is there anyone on?" Think about it: If there's no DM on, you might have said anything and it's no difference. If there is a DM on, they'll have to state the obvious first, and then ask you what it's about. What's the gain? This is what I say: "Hey. If there's anyone available, can you please dock a level off/drop me that DM tool/DC these people for me/(censored) off. Thanks!" I recommend you don't ask for any of the latter three, though. >_> But the point is, you can do all that in a single message. |

yeah best tips when trying to not waste DM time, ask if they are busy with someone or if you have a real problem dont jerk around "Big OOC fighting in FoD need some help" that will offen grab DM, and could save them DM a extra 10mins then you small talking leading into the problem because the longer they fighter the longer it will take the DM to make them stop. |

Having been on the Dm's side of the fence, I know how it can be at times which admittedly does at times make me a little shy to ask queries unless I know they're dang important or elsewise what I need to ask isn't something I can look up or ask another player. Odd as this sounds, it is a bit intimidating at times to ask for either the DM's attention or for assistance with something. *if only due to my own personal nervousness at times* This all said: Don't be shy of asking the Dms questions if you really need to. I had to ask a fair number of questions not too long ago over a period of time in relation to a plot. Even if you typically would assume something, it may be worth asking as you might get interesting answers as a result. (Case in Point: Yossarin with the Cordor plot) |

You can always ask questions or for help. We may not always have time, but nobody's going to get annoyed at you for asking. No need to beat around the bush: state your business, and we'll get to you if we're able. If not, we don't, no harm done. |

you think that but alot of people seem to think the DMs are mean scary and ignoring them if you dont get around to it(or so it seems) dont see why somepeople view the DMs like that, I remember in the Nes'ek event when we had the big partys, we were waiting and guarding and I pulled out the game "Dirty minds" and we played it over party and even DMs client side would play. |

The psychologists bills shown for the first time ever, from the many victims of the ebil and corrupt DM's. That's right! We know the real DM's hiding behind these civil masks. THEY'RE ALIENS!!!!! I find ways to fix my own problems because I don't like intruding on DM's busy busy schedule. When I do bug a DM, I try to be polite and its usually over some issue like someone God-gaming in the Cordor square and ruining RP for everyone present. Otherwise I do my best to be polite when requesting assistance and aside from occasionally bugging WonWon with off-color jokes I leave the DMs alone. |

You say you want us running more events. Putting in our time to make the server come more alive. To be a closer approximation to a living, breathing organism that responds to you, albeit slowly. This requires me to be busy in the Client. But the minute I tell you I am too busy doing the above to help you with that rebuild you want that will increase your PvP effectiveness on the server, your nose is bent out of shape. When I am elbows deep quietly molding universal interactions, you're upset because I'm catering to the needs of general playerbase rather than your very specific, very individual needs. I gave up trying to win with you people a long time ago. |

I usually ask my questions rightaway, but I feel awfully bad in doing so, not only because they tend to be huge. T_T I remember DMs are people too and if I do not ask if they are busy, or how their day is going, that I am being a b!tch. Even though knowing that they prefer the important question to be asked rightaway. But after I got their attention and whatever I needed was solved, I thank them very emphatically. And I tend to apologize too. >_>;; |

Every time I get turned down by a DM when I ask a question, ask for help or attention, I kill a kitten. Think about that next time! No but seriously, cut to the chase y'all. Quit the stalling and just ask what you need to ask and get it over with. You're not at a job interview, just spill the beans and be done with it. Easier for you and the DM. And seriously, I kill a kitten when they ignore me. O_O ::Psycho Theme:: |

I usually write in the DM channel with a long, monolithic question that omits no details. And then if it's not answered, I repeat the question every 8 seconds. |

I found from player side to ask nicely and include the whole question in the first request. I need help with a re level is a dm available? I need 5 levels taken away can i get a bit of help? Ask your whole question as simply as you can. As a new adittion to the team i can tell you the amount of text that streams by is significant.. Truth is we want to help and most of the time we are handling multiple issues. best advice I can give is "say it as simply as possible and be patient." |

It also helps to do some basic maths: I prefer people saying "take 423637 XP" instead of "get me to level 21". Trusting the BioWare level to xp calculations isn't always a smart move, you know. |

No, I just mentioned one time that I wanted to do that to people who, on bosshunts, ran through every single spawn without killing them just to get to the boss quicker, leaving the spawns standing around to make life miserable for parties behind them. Wanted to. Because it would be funny. Never did. Because it would be wrong. |

Wanted to. Because it would be funny. Never did. Because it would be wrong. looks like we have diffrent view of logic again, its not wrong because your the NPCs, if your a guard and someone runs past you to kill you king you wont stand around, you would follow them. so then you spawn the numbers they ran past on them when they get to the king. just hasteing and running past monsters because the AI is to shortbus to follow is lame, spice it up for them |

It falls under "just because you can doesn't mean you should". Just because we technically can have control of the world and have a bunch monsters cast haste and run to the players, doesn't mean it's in the spirit of the game to do so and should be done. Even when a DM "tortures" a player, it should be to give a challenge and advance a plot, not to punish. OOC punishments like docking levels for asshattery are a different matter. That falls under "administration". |

even if they are running past near all the monsters with out using invis,GS,hide...ect(so IC the monsters see them it just poor AI causing them to not follow) causing lag, almost near ignoring NPCs just to kill the boss for loot. that has to be worth at least the spawn of 2 groups on them at the boss after running past 20 groups. |

You took the words right out of my mouth... er, fingertips. I mean, we DMs get shit poured on us by angry players on daily basis, also regarding getting killed in plots. But we just don't kill people with monsters as punishment or anything. We just don't do it, full stop. It's all in your head if you think you got killed by a monster with the intent to punish you for something. No. You get level docked or banned or something if we punish you. But not killed by monsters. Disclaimer: You will get killed by monsters set up by DMs for certain. But not with the intent of punishing you, and you usually get a raise provided in some fashion at some point by the DM, too. Just to make this fine difference clear. |

When I first started out I was very anxious around DMs. First time I needed DM supervision for something that needed overseeing turned into a false need because most of the players involved just wandered around in all directions. After that, I've never asked for anything of the like again. Now, unless I'm dying and wish to send a farewell text to random playerbase or I really REALLY need some help with something I can't possibly do on my own and I have to do it, I won't ask for anything. On another note, aren't the majority of the people who complain and get upset and etc the ones who don't really read forum discussions? For one, the "common sense" experienced players have right now does not apply to newcomers. Computer knows how many things I had skewed perceptions about back at the beginning of this year. |

whats wrong with my logic from a IC point, a attacking force is storming the castle to attack the king/leader your loyal to, and in this case its one person jogging past you, would you not follow and flank him when he gets to the king? could it not be said they are metagaming the NPC knowing they wont/cant be followed after a set point. Tormak your Nes'ek event the zone was ment to be crawling with undead undead correct, if I haste ran past all your monsters to kill the leader, would you not IC get to follow me if I was the only target for the undead? am I the only one who would see this as a IC/RP effect by the staff and not a OOC rules punishment by DMs,because no place in the rules say you cant just jog to the boss so you would not be punishing them, you would be rollplaying the NPCs the AI is still just AI, is that not why you removed most if not all of the caster summon from people as they would do stupid stuff. |

Horribly. yeah whats diffrent is a person over AI, noone would try and zerg to a epic loot boss if they knew a DM was playing the NPCs because IC its a stupid stupid plan and it would get them killed. so I dont see what would be so wrong if the DM made a group or so follow them to the king if they ran past the group, IC actions lead to IC consequences does it not? |
