There's been a big upswing in dropping stuff on the ground all over both servers lately. Arrows used as fliers, job system pages with -giant- descriptions, turds, (lawl) what have you. This stuff...especially the stuff with big-ass descriptions does cause lag, plus it's just plain messy. Also, leaving stuff in the entryway? No no..no. If I wanted to get really nit picky I'd say the entryway is OOC and anything you find in there is OOC knowledge, but I won't. OK maybe I just did. Things you can do however are advertise like mad on the forum, Set up a table and hand people these items, maybe even leave one or two in shop inventories. Just don't leave crap all over the ground. Okay? |

Lally, can I add a little bit to your complaint? Can people not close shops that belong to other merchants, or clicking all the items in merchants chests so it all dissapears? To the first, especially without even sending a Tell saying their shop is being closed while they go off for a couple minutes. Its a real pain to add all those items back in, especially when theres a lot of book pages, rings, etc. |

For those using arrows, etc, as shop signs: Find a carpenter, buy a placeable sign. Find a scribe, get your sign customized (name and description). Much better than using arrows or such as shop signs. For those using them as flyers...well, obey our overlords, dammit! |

Or just hire a level 3 bloke for a few thousand coins to stand in the street and holler your advertisement. No litter, more RP, and you even incorporated a noobie. How much better does it get? |

much better. Pay for a DM to advertise it for you either by server shout or newspaper release. |

I prefer xordae's suggestion. If there's a chance of giving another player something to do, you should allow the player to do it instead of asking a DM to do it. Menial task it may be, but players less into grinding at low levels may appreciate it nonetheless. |

To the first, especially without even sending a Tell saying their shop is being closed while they go off for a couple minutes. Its a real pain to add all those items back in, especially when theres a lot of book pages, rings, etc. The merchant stalls were probably set up quite on purpose to be closeable by other PC's when you're not around. Obviously just yanking the 'duds' out is rude, since that works if you are there or not. Unless of course they inform you one or two was accidentally pulled out. But if you walk away and they close the shop on you? Well, it's going to be by-case I suppose if it's proper or greifing. But I've seen a few times that PC's who set stall are logged out; or even hunting and in the middle of Spires when I send a PM asking if there was supposed to be a notice left behind ICly. In RL, any good merchant won't skip away from their stall. You're biggest loss is having to put everything back in. If the system was 'fair', then you'd be risking having the items actually just plain stolen from you for walking off. It's a pain, but consider the alternatives to make a point; eh? |

I agree with Torzng, to be honest. If you're still there and they're being arsehats by closing your store, though, that's just wrong and a DM should be contacted. |

Yurell means if they are pulling everything out of your bin so it vanishes. Seeing as your store should not be closable by somebody else as long as you are still in that zone. Otherwise you've got a bug |

Sorry, but if I find an untended stall and I don't see you come back in about.... oh, say 5-10 minutes, I'm closing it. And nope, I won't PM you either. |

thats pretty much a crapshoot of a time estimate, since most people arent very good at telling how much time has gone by without checking clocks and it seems to me that common courtsey would be to check if the merchant is on the server and send them a PM, whether it be an OOC message asking if they forgot to close the shop or a IC message through speedys requesting to buy an item |

If you are wanting to use the stall to set up shop yourself, then that should be fine to close it, but if you are just going to close it for the hell of it because the owner isn't there, then that is lame cheese. (unless of course there is some lag reason) |

My point too. If you abandon your stall, that's your decision, but it's for you to reap the consequences. |

I think that's reasonable. I don't. Sometimes one steps away from the stalls for a reason, as a merchant. It sometimes takes 10 minutes or more to set up a shop. There are those who simply put a shop down and walk away and leave a sign that basically says, "I'm out hunting/RPing elsewhere, PM me if you like my shinies if you wanna buy my something". Do I have an opinion on that? Yes. Do I go and close their stalls when they do this? No. It's not my place as a player in my opinion. I feel that its just going to irritate them on an OOC level, and I figure if its out of hand enough a DM will deal with it with some of their items being 'Shoplifted' eventually. Sometimes I get requested to do Mythal crafting and do have a 'Stepped out' sign to put down during that time that I do it. Were I to come back after doing so, even if it were 10 minutes, and you would have 'closed it'.. I'd be very cross. I tend to RP with my customers. And you know RP out the Mythal crafting process. Sometimes that takes awhile.. Sometimes a merchant can crash out and cant get back in the server or are trying to. Were I to come back from crash after Direct Connect spamming for 5 minutes and someone had closed my shop atop that. I'd not be a happy person. Keep those things in mind. |

Sure the owner is an idiot for leaving his things unattended and would have no right to complain about his closed shop, but I have to side with O'Raghailligh here. Closing a shop just because the owner isn't there is just being a douche imho, unless of course the admins say shops lags the server. Otherwise it seems like just some false sense of superiority or self-righteousness. If a friend of mine lost her pen or [whatever] because she intentionally left it in her desk at the public library, I'll scold her for it. Make fun of her even, but you know what's worse than her carelessness? The person the took her pen or [whatever]. |

I think it's because people want to jockey for that open, visible slot just opposite Hilrash. It's the most visible shop and people are jealous and greedy and don't just want to use the slots that are right next to it and just as visible so they close the shop. |

I don't think it's fair if another merchant wants to set up shop, and the stall is taken and they've been standing there for ten minutes without the owner returning. My opinion on closing shops for no reason other than no one is there, however, is not to. |

If there's no need to close the stall, then it's just arsehattery. |

Yurell, you are acting like theres only one stall avaliable... now if all of the stalls were full, ya I could understand a merchant not leaving for long, but as it is, theres three up front stalls, and its easy to buy placeables or use spells to make your shop more visible |

If there are empty stalls available, then there is no need to close the other. |

If your planning on making a AFS (away from shop) set up...avoid that obvious first space...people do like it and if they are going to be there and actually stay there with their shop...it's a better use imo over advertisements in the form of unattended stalls. If someone has to walk away for a few minutes, can usually ask another person ICly to watch their shop. |

Wasn't aware there was such a thing as "abusing" the job. Anyway, I'd just suggest that people get a damn sign widget. From a Carpenter. That's kind of the point in having carpenters able to make them, you know? Using random crap from the job system like a empty page, or a gem, or whatever, well, people should just pick that garbage up off the ground and trash it. The person who placed it doesn't like it...they can get a sign! Maybe there's opportunity here for a new job? Garbageman - Gain xp and gold once every 2 minutes max, for picking up random litter on the ground. |

That is all. I'm pretty sure its more 'The people doing what they were told not to do it' by Disco in a thread, and I'm pretty sure there's a rule somewhere that says not to 'litter'. |

Don't blame the Scribe job, people did it since the Mythal system allowed renaming of Ammo way back when. I'm not sure Garbageman is very feasible though, considering that the game has really very little garbage. The usual stuff that is dropped on the ground is already useful and worth money. |

I do believe I was the first person to rename items & use them as poo, 'goblin poo' to be exact. I never dropped them en masse. In fact I only dropped them 3 times, so whoever doing it now is not only unoriginal but also doing it too much. Thank you for for ruining a good idea you unoriginal [censored]. On closing shops...I used to play a merchant & ppl would remove all my items from the display while I was behind the counter. Sometime several times a gaming sessions. Was very annoying & if I could I would punch them across the internet right in the nose. My fist would pop out of their screen & smash their face...if it was possible. I have also seen merchant with more than one stall open. There would be a merchant stall in Wiltun with a arrow beside it saying.."Contact me via Speedy's" , I would then check to see if they were on A & they would be. I would then log onto A & guess were they would be? The Merchant Hall in Cordor. C'mon now! You don't need to hold down 2 or more shops! Open 1 shop & stay behind it's counter. If I come across shop/s that ppl are leaving unattended for more than 10 minutes I close it/them. Not only is it unfair to those that wish to use said shop/s but it's pretty..ummm...unrealisitc for a merchant to leave a shop for more than 10 min. Yea, yea I can understand if you the player had to use the restroom or something but most of the time I have encountered abandoned shops the player is off hunting, on the other server or isn't even on both servers. If your toon is a merchant then play them as one. Don't set up a stall, go hunting & expect your shop to run on auto-pilot. Merchants stay at their stalls, even when business is slow, even when they want to go have fun doing something else. It's part of the job of being a merchant to be bored sometimes. Show some consideration for your fellow players & close your shop if your toon isn't going to be there. Show some consideration & quit hogging the stalls. |
