I've been playing without the shiny water already, becouse it makes for some reason to show the polygons (i am not sure if those are it but anyway) and it looks horrible. though I am going to try without vsynch.

I think I have your same video card, and vista as well, and I experienced frequent crashes after updating my ati drivers to the latest ones. When I uninstalled them and installed the catalyst 9.2 drivers, it worked fine. Might give it a shot.

It shouldn't be the graphics card. I've got a 4870 with the latest drivers and my nwn's fine.

Can you give us any info on how it crashes? On load screens? Too many spell effects? Just randomly with no consistent patterns?

Do you use 3rd party software such as xfire or steam?

Have you followed the multi-core advice stickies in general discussion and seen if that helps? (You're sporting an Intel Core2 Duo, nwn wasn't designed for more then 1 core)

Okay, I suggest updating all your drivers, and I will have your lists here to show you what to do to do that, almost every one of your drivers for your system has been updated this month:

Download this and install it:

Download a copy of your newest ATI drivers and keep them on your desktop for reinstalling later.


To make sure you are installing without any dregs left over.

Go into display options by right clicking your desktop.
get the advanced properties. Go to adapter properties/configure, then go to driver tab. Change it to standard vga/agp adapter driver and have it install. You may have to tell it to let you choose a driver manually to do so or choose from a list of drivers.

Do not restart if prompted yet.

Uninstall ATI Drivers from the control panel add/remove software panel.

Once uninstalled, run driver sweeper, and remove ati display drivers.

Restart.

Run CCleaner, go to the registry cleaning portion, clean it, have it save a backup.

Restart again.

Install ATI Drivers. Restart.


ASUS website is pretty bad/slow for driver updates.

Updated drivers and bios for your motherboard/chipset/LAN/Audio if you haven't are a good thing to update direct from manufacturer solve these issues:

Quite sure it is. The file atioglxx.dll is the ATI OpenGL driver.

Pokeing around online i found a few things it might be.

Power suply might not be enough to handle two ram sticks and your vid card together, try it with one ram stick or try get a bigger power suply.

Vid card may not be compatable with your CPU, i doubt this is the case (I had a similar problem and it was my motherboard and cpu where not compatable, something else you could check up)

Your computer is overheating, (you can check this next time it goes down and you reboot go into your bios setup and have a look) try a bit of light dusting and applying some more of that fantastic heat gel stuff under your cpu fan. Also your vid card could be overheating, you could put another internal fan inside your tower if youve room to fix that, lowering the cpu core temp can also help.

NWN didnt like duel core CPU's but thats not an issue anymore since the 1.68 update (also included as a fix in the 1.69 update)

I think the overheating option is probably the most likely and easyest to fix, regular dusting of the inside of your computer is a good thing (i use a vacum with a soft brush attachment and get into the fan with a cotton tip or simmilar once every couple of months, if its not your issue it realy cant hurt)
