*Stretches* Long time no post..
Right, I currently play Samael, a fighter/champion of Lathander guy.
However I have this strong unexplainable urge to make a Sorcerer. I have read all the amia wiki possesses on the class, but thought some interaction with you guys may help me develop an idea.
I'm not sure which to play, male or female, though its not much of a problem. What I want help with is what ways of becoming a sorcerer is more interesting and what magical creatures in a lineiage would give what kind of spells?.
I was also wondering if anyone has better idea's for this histroy of the character. I was thinking maybe he/she was disowned by his/her said parents due to accidently killing someone/pet/?. As sorcerer's power is not very controlable at first.
Plus more details on the attitudes these sorcerers have would be handy.
I've been playing here for years and just thought I'd make something a bit more special for once ^^.
Thanks. -Brighti (INSTINCT92)

I think you'll feel more ownership towards you character if you work these things out yourself. That said, make a desert-themed sorceror for Khem! Flying carpets, snake charming, ancient secrets buried deep under the sand! That kind of stuff.
Could be guy ousted from Halruaa, they pretty much hate sorcerors from what I understand.

Khem is awesome. Make a local or a Mulhorandi.

You do not need for your powers to come from dragons btw. Your sorcerer powers can come from any sort of being.

to my knowledge sorcerous powers come from one of the following sources/bloodlines:
- Draconic
- Demonic
- Devilish
- Fae
-Celestial

I'm interested in the mulhorandi people, and the egyptian deities. But can't find any lore, same with Khem. And any being you say? hmm, will have to think of something then..

You can get sorcerous powers from anything, I bet. It's just "rumour" and "theory" that you need specific bloodlines.
You might have an outsider in your ancestry, perhaps some strong magical tradition that left a magical streak in your blood, or anything else.

I've done some more digging and found the deities of mulhorand. I like Isis as a deity for the magic side. But what confuses me is that her parent, Nut and Geb are brother and sister, and Isis' husband Osiris is her brother... Was that the done thing in egypt, and hence mulhorand?

No quantifiable source of power is far more mystical, and inspires awe.
Sometimes not knowing, is all the better.
That being said, Djinni and mortals mated, a lot of sorcerers come from Mulhorand due to this.

About anything can give sorcerer powers. The dragon compendium lists the following things as being why you have the power.
-celestials
-fiends
-lawful outsiders
-chaotic outsiders
-outsiders from the etheral or shadow plane
-fey
-illithids
-serpents
-plants
-elementals
-dragons
-necromancers/undead

Yeah. It's quite likely for a Mulan Aasimar to be distantly descdended from the God-Kings (who were half-mortal at the time). These family lines are highly untraceable, numerous and lost to history, so you wouldn't be able to determine your clear ancestry and point out when and with which god your ancestor mated with. It's cooler to leave it as an ambigious mystery. Technically speaking, after all, you do need to request to play a descendant of a deity on Amia, but this is an acceptable exception only if it's done in good taste.
I don't think there are many Air Genasi/Djinni from Mulhorand? That's a Calimshan thing, whatwith the Djinni/Efreeti empires warring there.

Yes. Egypt and ancient Rome as well as other countries/nations at times did not see it as taboo to have family marrying/interbreeding with family even as close as siblings. It was instead seen as strengthening the bloodlines or keeping the sacred/noble/royal lines pure.
You let your imagination fill in the children that were extras from The Hills Have Eyes.

Good to know. Thanks.
As for my character, I've come up with this:
Lazuli Raziya (A stone that is native in egypt, that famouse blue stuff) (Aggreable).
A Mulhorundi Sorceress, Aaismar. Worships Isis. About 20 years old.
High Cha, flawless skin etc. NG aligned. Confident, honest, loyal.
Her history i'm still thinking of, would that work for you faction anyway?

Its not a faction per se.
Its more a group of like minded individuals interested in hanging around in Khem promoting the awesomeness of Mulhorand and its dieties.
There is a priestess of Isis played by Qualiz so your character would fit in that regard.
In short. Yes it does fit, and your more than welcome to join in the fun.

Since she is not a cleric nor a paladin, why worship one pesific god instead of just the whole pantheon in general?

Simple because Isis is the goddess of good margic. No othe eason, but she will pay homage to the other gods also. (Well the non-evil ones)
@ MoshingChris: That'd be awsome. I'd love to. Only catch is i dunno how to get there. Its on Amia B, thats all i know. And won't she need to train (Level) on A?

I recently levelled a character entirely on the B server. It is a crying shame that there aren't lowbie areas in Khem, but there are plenty of Lowbie areas now on B.
However nothing preventing you from levelling on A and making a return to Khem after doing things in the west.
Also pointing out that there are currently a heap of Mulan lowbies currently going along or about to be started. They will probably make themselves known at some sort.

I have a non-Mulan nomad around 11.
Anyways, the servers both A and B are full of areas for all levels. It is very sad that only the same few areas on A that have been grinded for 5 to 6 years are still the only places most parties go to. Exploring is fun, and the exp and loot in areas no one visits can be surprisingly good. It is just the age old tradition of supposedly knowing where to grind that keeps people from exploring them.
EDIT: This is also why I solo so much. No one wants to get away from trolls-spiders-etc. age old path and perhaps do some quests.

Exactly! Why does no one want to do quests!?! I've tried giving quest hooks to low level characters with an epic character and have had only one pair of lowish level characters interact with an open mind.
I was ecstatic when a high level character gave one of mine stuff to do at low/mid level.

Just felt like putting my two cents in:
Though the Lore behind sorcerers is that they all stem from some magical being, ICly, your character could have a theory of their own, yanno? Won't in the least bit make it right, but sometimes it's just as much fun to have them come up with their own explanations.
One of my sorcerous characters beleives that certain people are just "knots" in the weave. Meaning they are bound to it through pure chance, rather than heritage. Doesn't make it right, but it makes for an interesting lecture, nonetheless.

I would say that's perfectly reasonable as an OOC explanation, too. I find the monster heritage rather silly, if it's supposed to be the only way.

There are some very interesting things in there... Could help you with certain ways of shaping the uncontrollable-ness of sorcerer magic... It says things about hearing sounds, voices etc... Sounds good to me.
Hope it helps

My sorc has a reasoning for why he can use magic and its not like any of the real lore either, because I recreated him from another server, I just rp'd that he opened a gateway (portal) in that old server but something messed up and he went wam and splat into cordor and the channeling/magic he once had (since he was lvl 40 sorc) was altered into the magic of the Amia server so he had to relearn how to use it, which explained starting at lvl 1 again. And of course I havent played him at all on the other server since he isnt on it anymore ICly lol.
