There has been an INFLUX of new players last week and this, a few of which I've had absolute blasts with them rp wise.

I had NO clue what I was doing when I first arrived here (and I'm sure a large percentage pf the populace feels the same,) till a charrie by the name of Krisa showed me the ropes, IC and ooc.

I never miss a chance to do it now. :)

So thanks Burningoutbright. *hugs*

Now that you're all done puking, lets all try and give the newbies a leg up.

Wait, the newbies have legs? :P

just kidding, you guys do rock though. :) we were all noobs at once....

But please, make yourselves known! Best way to get even better RP is to know the people better that you RP with...

I've helped a few new players, even if it mean bending a bit [not breaking character, but helping things work favorably so they get an idea of gameplay.]

And I always am sure to provide: "I can be found at /tp "Torzeng" when online."

Because learning how to do tells reeaallly helps with contact <.<

Newbies rock, because even when we have oldies leave, new players come in and bring new life to the server. Always be nice to them, because we were all once newbies ourselves.

Man, thinking back to how newbie I was... Yeesh I sucked. I'm surprised anybody RP'd with me at all back then.

On that note, I'm with everyone above in welcoming/praising/offering assistance to any new players.

That's the attitude! I think it's really no issue if you take a newcomer to some quiet area and OOC help him. As long as you don't disturb other people it's a nice gesture.

Yeah, sometimes it's kinda nice to think about how dreadful we once were. Keeps us humble. :)

You know, besides Krisa, the Black Flag had the most patience and most fun teaching me how to be a proper victim. Have to shout them out as well.

And god..the forums were indispensable. Still are.

Let's see... I ran around in the typical Leather Armor/Antler Helmet/Torch and Short Sword combo that is so common of "newbies." Put down campfires in Haur's. In a semi-serious event in the bathhouse, I didn't do any dicerolling and just sat naked in the bath drinking and farting. And I thought it was hilarious to spam the falling down emote and laughing.

Yeah, it was a wonder I wasn't banned as a random asshat at first.

I wish I could remember how my first days were. I just remember meeting 'Deemer's Oninre (<3) for the first time, Katje, Leggomi Eggolas (<3 Robbie :P) with my former Eilistraeen Priestess, Valkirya.

Back then all RP I saw from Jud'Vardas was being sat at the bench beside the temple until one day I sent a tell to him asking why in the hells he would always sit there quietly. I think it was then that Valki and he started a friendship. ^^;

I do remember being annoying by asking every single PC where was the Underdark and if they saw a drow mage looking like her father (i think I gave a short description).

Like, really, asking every single player around if they knew of him or could take me to the Underdark or have a rescuing party after him. >.>

Recently, I got to meet a few newbie drow, too. Oh boy... some of them do not like authority. I had Auron being a bully for the first time and it did not make me feel good about it. ^^;

Life Below is easy as long as you hold back from talking back to females until you are of a high enough rank. Bowing to all of them help too. :P

On my first 2 weeks of playing Amia I got booted I think about 6-7 times. The best time was when:

Me: "yo (so and so) want to go and bash some critters?"

Random player: "How do you know my name good sir?"

Me: "I read the name floating above your head you feth. Duh"

*BOOT!!!!*

And these newbies seem to be American. Australian timezones are still quieter then a tree falling in the woods.

Still. Always good to help/RP with them.

If I am on I'll help a newbie. But only if they aren't being offensive to me or just purposely being an ass. Which is about 50% of the newbies that come into the server unfortunatly. It's where the bad rep comes from.

Hate to say it, but people can only be taught if they want to be taught. If someone is unwilling to change or improve, then they can't be helped. Using newness as an excuse for bad behaviour is no excuse at all. It's quite evident which of those people that come to the server want to learn and change, and those whom simply come to the server to be bastards.

It's unfair for me to say it's all newbies though. Because there are established characters in Amia whom are no better then the n00b's I speak of.

Author:  Yurell [ Thu, Mar 05 2009, 1:16 AM ]
Post subject:

The only reason I remember my first time on Amia is because my first character, then known as Amenia Dess, stepped out of the Temple of Waukeen for the first time ... right into a buffed Balor Warrior someone had let loose in Cordor. Needless to say for the lvl 2 bard the event was over rather suddenly.

And from then on I was helped to learn by more experienced people, so I believe we should help newbies. Unless they're being rude and abrasive, in which case ...

Pope Clement wrote:

That said, I've met one or two in Aussie timezone and they've been quite good and very receptive to advice!

Post subject:

I agree with Selvec.

Best advice I can give to newbies: Only you can define how you choose to role play. It's better to learn on your own then have someone spoon feed you.

Author:  Lally [ Thu, Mar 05 2009, 1:18 AM ]
Post subject:

This thread isn't about "dealing" with crappy players, or throwing veiled insults at current players. So stop dat. *waggles finger*

It's about attempting to keep a 8+ year old video game which a lot of people adore on a server a lot of people adore full of new life through understanding that we weren't always the golden gods of RP we've become.

All of us have needed help occasionally. Every one of us. A video game is not the place to learn via the school of hard knocks. Let the life lessons stay exactly where they belong.

LIFE.

Think positive!

I'm just acting on my own experiences. I learnt the hard way and although my role playing skillz are questionable I can still pull it off.

Sure I'll answer their questions, I don't mind doing that. I do it often enough with Salandran players. When it comes to telling them 'how' to role play... all I'll say is I'm not interested in forcing them to breast feed because it's the trend the rest of you follow.

They need to learn their own groove, their own style. Not copy your groove and your style.
