Is there a way to improve the party list? Not by much, just so when you advertise for a party you could list your class, and or what you are looking for in your party.

Like this: Bob/Fighter lvl 9, party needs healer

something along those lines...dunno I'm sleepy...

Ugh, must the thinly veiled OOC tool be encouraged more? I never did like that thing... >.>

This is an RP server, not an action server. We like randomn.

yeah it is kinda silly, but being a new guy I find the party ball helpful when I get lonely and want to find some one to go adventuring with.

Once again I find myself forced to agree with Tormak, it muct be a blue moon or something *shrugs*

But I do know how hard it can be to find the right people when you are just starting out, but I would be against adding more information to the party advertiser.

Well one of the longest topics on the forums is a topic about powerbuilds. I think it is acceptable to keep the thing around if that's what we're shooting for!

What? No! I was responding to the party list!

...wait, this isn't a real party list? There was no need for me to RSVP? Wtf?! God damnit, I had Katy Perry and Andy Dick in my party, Katy wanted the fish and Andy the chicken (well, the cock, he called it). So now I have to have my publicist call them back and tell them the party's off?

This is false advertising.

I'm always mildly and undeservedly offended when I ask someone on the party list if they need another person and they say "what class?"

What class? Fucking awesome is what class. Sheesh.

Just tell them you're a cleric every time, you'll be fine.

So there's no party?

(lol, uh I have to agree with Tormy on this one, alittle too ooc when there are player factions and future friends to get to know at random)

randomly meeting people is half the fun ;)

The tool was a counter to the ooc level range restrictions. Occ that defeats ooc and makes it lesser ooc, but still remains ooc, that doesn't need to be more ooc.

The party adviser is a bit of an OOC tool but then again, so are a lot of things given to players and even things DMs do. Some OOC things aren't all bad. Like the party adviser: It helps a lot with new characters and new players making friends. Or take the DM shouts about random events happening in specific areas that say, someone in Cordor probably shouldn't and wouldn't know about but they do now because of the shout. The shouts are to attract attention so that the event is funner and more involved, nothing wrong with that. Or hell, think of when you're going to hunt with people. What do most everyone say when someone wants to tag along? "// lvl?", right? That's OOC info, AKA metagaming. Is it wrong? Not really.

With that said though, I think the party adviser is just fine the way it is.

In fact, OOC tools go so far as to make the game MORE enjoyable sometimes. It is something that is called player-friendliness. For instance your teleport wands or the system that replaces them.

Personally I would not be against an OOC tool that went so far as to allow us to pay gold for a rebuild ;>

I don't see it as more or less respectable than minding the battle log to see an OOC buddy joining the server or seeing them on the player tab when you log in, and then popping them a tell to see if they're wearing their RP hat or Action hat.

Oh suuuure they are *sarcasm*

Every single person has one...the mage tower apparently made an infinite supply and handed them out to people as they arrived on Amia for free (and didn't miss anyone), everyone knows how to use the magical devices, 8int orcs included, and mages don't know how to work them any better than anyone else.

I sence a hint of oocness...anyone else?

BUT they have a benefit for the server that is actually for the better to not be totally IC with them because otherwise people would get bored of walking everywhere to meet up for hunts. So this is yet another case where letting everyone and their mom have a fully functioning complicated portaling device has a good ooc and IC result.

You may decry and use sarcasm all you like, but they are IC. If you treat them as OOC we'll probably whap you upside the head until you treat them as a part of the gameworld and in character, because they are.

Yes they have an IC element, but they are not entirely IC by a long shot.

( I am not trying to say it's wrong or anything I'm just saying don't deny what it is.)

Yes. They're IC.

Yes, they're doled out in a nondescript, behind-the-scenes fashion to the adventuring populace, perhaps at a sort of 'visitor's center'. The items themselves might be fairly cheap (in the grand scheme) to produce, but attuning them takes a bit of work, if you want them to take you anywhere but Cordor or your other hometown. I'm sure that the Drow have either acquired one and reverse-engineered it or made their own equivalent.

If you don't like having a portal rod, toss it in the next bloody trash-barrel you see. I won't stop you. If you like having it, keep it.

Edit: Furthermore, it's only as thinly-veiled as you let it be. Use your damned imagination. Christ.

I like my portal wand, I like what they do for the server as a whole, I never said toss them. But I will fight Denial to my dying breath, I'm one of those people who would rather know the truth even if its harsh than live in ignorant bliss.

It's not denial. The old system was denial. This is quite a nice system with supporting RP behind it and all.

Yes yes I insulted him for insulting us for absolutely no reason at all and accused him of being in denial but I'm not mad about any of it and turned the insult into a positive twist. I feel no grudges or anything resembling anger, I like to think of it as word games, a puzzle to be solved, a worthy challenge. Proving the pointlessness that is when someone insults me and thinks it will hurt my feelings or imaginary delicate ego. I say try, try agian. I'll just offer up a huggle emote and a peace offering until insulting becomes totally pointless and we then use logical arguments.

Edit:
p.s. the denial is saying that it has absolutely no ooc aspect to it at all, when it does.

Alright mayhaps I take the denail statement back 'veiled' has it's merits...and it could be argued that the varying degree of oocness is up to the perspectives' rosy colored glasses.

Once again Yossarin's witty comments are above me :(

Which is sad because I'm sure it has something to do with a coming flame war or something. But then again, given that I can't figure it out even that guess is subject to being completely incorrect.

Edit: I've figured it out after re-reading the above post that was beyond my comprehension, and the accompanying explanation provided by Yossarin.

You would all be amazed to find that the same explanation might apply to the Yossarin quote above!

You have a point the new system is much nicer on the 'veiled' scale. Ten times over.

Alrighty apologies apologies, *extends the peace offering* An insult for an insult is still an insult even if it's watered-down to the point where it's almost not recognizable.

His comments are so insightful as well though, at first glance you see pointlessness and then might translate into..

The new portal system was explicitly made IC from the ground up, and addresses a number of 'issues' we had before:

1. mythal littering
2. arguments about escaping RP with the rod
3. arguments about the IC/OOC status of the rod
4. the unbelievable IC explanation (ley lines, rods, and mushrooms?)
5. the neverending complaints about portal to leader

It's still funky, but in the end every loon can get a mythal, pick up a few tools, and create himself a magic weapon, so it isn't THAT weird. At least I don't have to ask myself how the portal system works outside the mushroom season.

Just tell them you're a cleric every time, you'll be fine.

This has some valid reasons though. If I play my pally I always ask the class. Blackguard, PM and so on, no thank you - find another party.

I agree with hendrack ... that way you don't go through all the effort of catching up and time-wasting, only to find out the party won't accept you.

The ball is probably fine as it is. Giving classes isn't really that helpful. Getting Sorcerer doesn't say if it is a buffing bot or an offensive damage dealer. Bards could be the up front melee types or the archer spell casting singing type. Even seeing cleric doesn't say if it is the self buff melee monster or the party buffing heal support type.

If I ever ask someone for their class I ask "Party Role" for the sole reason of knowing what buffs to give them.

That's part of the greatness of the party ball. It's like grabbing a bum by the ankles and shaking him until all the stuff falls out of his pockets.... you never really know what you're gonna get. It gives you just enough information to know if that person will fit into your party for XP and that is perfectly enough.
