So righto, We all know if your an elf you have all the time in the world, same for undead, and perhaps dwarfs ect.ect.ect. ...but what if your human? Aside from wizards who turn into undead lich's, what else is there roleplay-wise available to extend human lifetime? ..deal with a devil/demon? ..drinking potions made of pixie dust and elf remains? ..ascending into celestial graces through good/evil deeds (favor of god/gods)? Basically I'm asking what is possible in Amia for the human (and other short-lifespan) people who are always clinging to life's small moments and dwelling on eventual death. |

Age your PCs as you please. Puff has been here for like two RL years and he still hasnt gained one year Speed of your own plot is how we handle it. Theres not and never will be a time we will say "You die from old age! Make a new character" Oh and for RP reason to explain it if that what you are looking for. They can range from a wish spell for Immortality/extended life. Certain RP aquired templates add onto the base life Monks Timeless body I think (I think just make look youthful forever though) Im sure theres some I'm forgetting. |

I believe the Elves have something which increases the lifespan of non human spouses and mounts by binding an elven soul to them or some such. Would have to ask someone else about that though Also... in Races of the Wild there was a prestige which is like an "Elf Friend" which increases your lifespan somewhat, perhaps something like that could be negiotiated (Not a whole new prestige class obviously) Wish and Miracle spells could do the trick also |

2nd Edition AD&D had potions of youth (reduced age by 1d4 years) and longevity (reduced by 1d8, but cumulative chance of 1% to undo all previous potions' effects). The 3rd Edition Campaign Setting refers to those means indirectly quite often; although they have - afaik - never been re-introduced mechanically, they're apparently there background-wise. Hunting down the components of potions like that might be quite fun, e. g. an elven maiden's blood, tears from a being older than a thousand years, a dragon's bone and so on. --- The Book of Vile Darkness has an 8th level evil arcane spell called "Steal Life", which makes the caster younger by inflicting attribute drain on a living humanoid. You get back 1 week per 1 point of drain, so you get about a year from hospitalizing a commoner. In the good ol' days (i. e. 2nd Edition), equivalent spells aged the victim instead. Might be cooler flavor-wise, as the damage to the victim cannot be undone by a simple Restoration spell. --- Another way is changing your type into something that doesn't age. This doesn't need to be an undead - outsider works pretty well, too, and is easier on the eyes. Polymorph any object can do this if you strangle your DM long enough for him to lapse into a near-coma and allow it. |

DnD 3E (inc. Forgotten Realms) - There is no avoiding death by age, or delaying it, bar deityhood or undeath. The Potions of Everlife can't be created anymore (of course, all of Greenwood's special NPCs that he loves and adores, invariably, have plenty to keep them going for an eternity) Immortality isn't a valid Wish. |

Is their a source for that? Steal Life should work pretty fine, I think. Polymorphing, the aforementioned prestige class and some other tricks of the trade should work, too - or is their an abstract rule in the campaign setting forbidding all magic to make you last longer? |

All of the sources for creating the potions are no longer a part of Forgotten Realms. IronAngel could probably pull out the source as to why that's the case. I haven't got my books with me anymore. That said, it's Amia. Dying of old age, or aging (period) is player choice. Btw, all classes that I've seen that say "Negate the effects of aging" or "reverse the effects f aging" oly prevent the -1/-2/-3 decrease to Physical stats. It's explicitly stated that the character still 'dies' when it becomes their time. Raising spells also don't work against those who have died of old age. |

There's no official source for the potions afaik, but there is - to my knowledge - no rule forbidding their re-creation. The other methods mentioned are valid, official things. |

That just sounds like a cruel practical joke. Human: "Say, Mr. Elf, just how do you live so long?" Elf: "Oh, uh, we just drink, uhm......" *Looks around the room* "...dragonblood! Yeah, that's it!" *Cut to an hour later, with the Human standing outside the dragon cave with a knife and a straw* |

My main character Jack is now in his 50s but he doesn't look much older then 40. The reason for this is that he's been badly injured so many times that his (and other's induced spell) regenerative abilities combined with his augmetics have slown the physical aging properties down. This doesn't extend his life though so don't think that, he'll still die at 70-75 max. As such he has very few large body scars (lots of mental ones though) and spends most of his spare time re-applying his elaborate tattoos to the regenerated areas. |

I've never heard of it making gods angry. Actually, many many characters have extended their lifespan magically. The most famous paladin, Open Lord of Waterdeep, Piergeiron Paladinson, included. |

Good thing Mechanus isn't connected to Toril and Piergeiron doesn't have to worry about it. Most powerful NPCs have extended their lives in some way. It's not featured in 3e Realms, like Ron said, but that doesn't overwrite past lore. And whatever retconning there was can be dismissed and bollocks, with good conscience. Retconning always is. I figure epic mages would come up with various rituals to extend their lifespan. Halaster was preserved in Undermountain because of enchantments laid on the Undermountain itself. One of the greatest arcanists of all time, the Netherese Ioulaum, had created a spell called Ioulaum's Longevity. It's not known today (except to him and his apprentice), I guess, but it means that aging is not irreversible. |

Inevitables will be coming after you AND it makes Kelemvor pissed. Mages still do it of course, that is what mages do. They just need to try and survive the consequences since it is not supposed to be easy. |

Kelemvor is a loser who just fawns over Mystra (who cherishes her lich servants, like Larloch) and fails to realize he doesn't really have a say in the matters of the dead unless they happen not to be claimed by another deity. So all he gets is leftovers. EDIT: True, Halen. I'm not discussing this from an Amian perspective, though. Sure, anything is possible on Amia. People can live forever simply by virtue of player desire. In canon Realms though, extending your lifespan seems to be quite acceptable and there are no Inevitables. |
