So gear-swapping isn't a bad thing?

Why would it be?

The ward is by no means an active enemy, it is not going anywhere. It is realistic that if you have tools to overcome it, then you should use those tools, unless your character is a fool who does not understand a thing and has not sense of survival. I carry plenty of equipment on my character, if I see situation where another ring is more useful, she will surely swap her equipment. Changing armors is far more difficult, however. I don't change equipment which would be unrealistic to carry with, however, bags of holdings able characters to carry plenty.

So I figured out that really, just you yourself bypassing the ward with UMD kinda sorta equates to the party bypassing it too.

Char A bypasses the ward as he's opening the door... well the door's still open for B, C and D to walk through. It's just if they try again after the door closes, they're making their own check, unlike suppressing the ward with a Dispel, which covers everyone in your party for that entire reset.

I think the only way around that is to change the method. Instead of basing wards around door PLCs, you make bypassing wards part of a conversational chain on a PLC. If the check is successful, the transition functions for that one person. No door ever opening. Ergo, a bit like talking to the Nomads in Khem, except the conversation chain option is "[UMD] *Attempt to adopt the mindset of a dwarf to bypass the Barak Runedar wards*". On success, you read, "You suddenly need a kegger, like right now." Aaaand transport. This would mean that you probably could not easily do this during combat, which makes sense because the process suggests it requires some concentration.
