I actually embrace it. I know there's at least 4 Serions and two cute girls with the last name Aylomen. Sure, I get little tells every now and then, "Are these girls related to you?" But its a quick and easy answer.

I'm fairly certain Aylomen was an NWN generated name, so for me to get pissy with it would be plain wrong.

In my opinion, though, I think it brings a little more RP to the table. From violent encounters, to reputation twistings, to various other fun things. I also think that Amia's playerbase is smart enough to know the difference between one Kaithan and another. If you're playing a character worth her two cents, which I think more than a few people here would agree with, she's far more original than just her name.

I personally only see an issue with same exact name if the sole purpose of the secound persons creation to slander and destroy the reputation of the origional person. My argument is that it is basicly metagaming a loop hole of attacking another charater without directly violating any rules within Amia. Of course I am speaking on the secound persons true name, not someone pretending to be that person since that can icly be determinded against. Rather using same first name, last name, race, completely same physical charateristics to bluntly cause issues when in all possiblities it would be next to impossible minus direct blood relations (Believe in the rules would need pcs permission, could be mistaken and please correct if am) to happen.

Example: John Smith 2: human 5'6" brown hair brown eyes scar bellow the bottom right eye. He attacks a priest within Winya Raven and becomes banned. Due to this John Smith 1 is also banned since no ic way to determine on sight it is not also him that caused the issue.

((Just my personal view.))

To me, that promotes RP. You then chase down the bastard and redeem your name!

It certainly can, and from time to time, I've dealt with little issues like that in my time in the Guard faction. Not same name, but same description almost to a T. Wrong person gets a bad rap through RP and gets jailed, or fined, or brought in for interrogation, and sometimes they get banned and then I'm swimming in a sea of green angry tells. :D

People aren't usually so gracious when they feel like they're being punished OoCly through an IC consequence their character didn't deserve. I've only had to bring it up to the DMs once or twice, because usually we work it out amongst ourselves. But, it's usually in the way that they ignore the IC consequence, or just stop playing the character after they're unable to clear their name.

I dig it when I see it; I'm like, "Oh, look, Gevie has a long-lost brother or something." And hope I run into them in game.

Troll names are something different.

But also, I currently work with a few gals with my same first name and we roll with it and find different ways to identify one another-- so that has some realism to it, I guess.

I can understand the initial irksomeness of it, but ...I mean, how'd you feel if you were a new player, came up with this name, and some well-known oldbie goes, "hey newbie, that's mai name, go make a new character or something LOL" . . . if that was me on the receiving end of it, I'd more likely go find a different server.

So . . . all food for thought, I guess.

Now that I've thought on it some more, I guess it really comes down to the intent.

Though the result is the same, and should be RPed the same IC, I think there's a difference for me at least, if someone genuinely, coincidentally thinks up the same name or hits the random name generator and happens to get the same name as one of my PC's vs *looks at player list* "Oh, that's a cool name" *click*.

There's no real way to know, however. But I suppose the more intricate the name(or if you can look into the bank of names--which I've forgotten how to do) you can hazard a guess whether it's pure luck, or something else.
