I would however feel like a hypocrite to disagree with most of the posts here however because other than the gender isn't majorly important thing, and the think with your third leg thing, I have nothing to add...

as far as adventure goes your goals could be gold, power, connection with a deity, immortality, land, best skills, etc, but could still be played by any race gender or class with a few exceptions.

so that said, I think tormak had this covered in comment 2, and would suggest just try it like I did with hazy ^_^ will make more sense that way than guessing.

Dammit Aramuth, beat me to it.

Anyway, men are obsessed by their egopintles. Their greatest goal is to grow their imaginary penises as broad and long as possible. This can be accomplished by various means; some prefer competitive rites such as PvP while others post frequently in the Build Thread and the Lore Question Thread. It is embarrassing to show any sign of ignorance, aka weakness, as it is often deemed as a contraction of virility. Humanity has still not come up with an explanation as to why evolution created man to work in such an enigmatic way. It is believed to have something to do with ancient beliefs and pagan deities.

If we can be praised for "properly" RPing a fictional race, who's mentality and social structure are quite alien to us, then certainly we can believably RP the opposite gender in which we've come into contact on a daily basis since the beginning of our lives. That's assuming their is a "proper" way, which I do not believe exists. That, or either it is trivial to RP anything that you are not, in terms of race, gender, culture, and personal experience. Like you said, if I cannot RP a woman correctly without being a woman, then I cannot RP an elf correctly without being an elf. The same goes with magic-user, warrior, etc, etc. Which leads to the suggestion that we should just play Sims with tiny versions of ourselves, if we ever wish to play something "properly".

Either way you slice it, the notion of a "proper" way to RP a gender is trivial. There is no formula that determines how all humans of a subset act. Or people in general. If no such rubric exists in real life, it's a bit silly to assume such exists in a fantasy world, or more accurately, a human pretending to be another human in a fantasy world.

It's a game. Don't over-think it.

Men and women think in vastly... Different ways, some of it being due to the chemical differences they have.

If I had to give you an example, Ravenous, I'd go ahead and throw out there the differences between Gill, and Mina. Women are far more... Emotional, when it comes to tough decision making, and generally are more... Susceptible to their feelings, rather than direct logic. In example, Mina, is entirely emotion-based on her thinking, of which, I am not saying all women ARE, but it is more common than males to do so. Gill, is more about logic than he is listening to emotions, be he can have his moments.

Men tend to follow their ego much more, as to men, life, is a competition. They all always assume that they are being tested, competed, or being threatened in some manner, and usually try to keep an image infront of public groups, but act faaarrr different in private. Gill is a prime example of this... His Ego's bigger than most Iron Golems, and he almost never backs down unless he can look good in doing so- Nay, that is not his emotions clouding it, but the fact that he really dislikes being made a fool out of. Mina, on the other hand, will simply keep everything she thinks in her mind, and go with the flow. Men have a much... Smaller tolerance for aggression, and will react quicker to it. Kind of like to wild animals. Women, to my knowledge, will try to take a softer approach, and perhaps even talk their way out of things, since they have nothing to loose with it. Their self-confidence tends to be based upon what they think of themselves, and not what others think, unless their self-confidence was already totally shot. Men, on the other hand, care more about what others think of them, mostly women. In instance, if Gill were single, and he pranced around in armor and every girl on the street giggled and laughed at him, then looked at the guy with his pants down to his knees, and they all went "Ooooh.." and started whispering, Gill would feel threatened, not only threatened, but he would feel as if he is challenged by this random stranger. Gill does not neccesarily care for these feelings, though. Gill is actually emotionally detatched, most of the time, and keeps to himself- That is a specific character trait that he is made with. If he was not made with such a trait, then I suspect he would feel... Exactly the same as I described.

Men aswell, make their agressive or suspicious feelings a tad bit more obvious, if they're angry, it is very easy to tell because they make it obvious, so that the other male, or female, can pick it up easier. Women are much more subtle with their feelings, unless they want to make it obvious, or they overwhelm them. For instance.. Gill made the fact he didn't trust the Shadowdancer, overly obvious, while Mina was simply.. Calm, and kept everything quiet about how she felt towards him. These two characters have very specific traits to them, but they make a very good example of Male vs Female.

Males also have reproduction on their mind, constantly, and will do almost.. Anything to get it, unless there is something more educated and stronger in their mind. In this case, Gill is a Lawful Neutral Cleric... Who devoted his life to KElemvor. Sex isn't his biggest concern, to be honest. Men aswell do not like to speak of their feelings, if they are feminant, they might.

Also, they treasure their reproductive organs and all of their thoughts center around them. The saying "I feel like I got my balls cut off" is because.. Well, they're displaying dominance, through that organ. Before there were civilized cultures, it was pretty normal for males to just.. You know. Dominate, and with the size of said organ, and move on. Which is a trait that's been stuck with us, for a long while. Men aswell enjoy.. Being hurt over women, it helps them remember the feelings they have for them, and they easily get attatched to women. Which is why they act different around women, though it honestly depends if they are interested in mating with the woman. For instance, if you feel like taking a shot at her, you might clean up your attitude a bit... MAke sure your breath smells nice, practice what you'll say near her, and always try to look good around her, because you feel as if the other males are competing for her, aswell. You have to show up as best, and be the alpha male. Of course, these base principles adjust to any type of character... The romantic type of male might always take strives to "woo" the woman he wishes.

Sadly, very little of this applies to Gill, as he isn't terribly.. Human. He's married, so he really only cares about what Mina thinks (Which can do him good, or bad) and only gets competitve, and jealous, around her when she is with other men, and.. He's also numbed a bit of his care for the other men around her to get over the fact ever male in Cordor sees her nude, and oogles her in the Bath-house.

Hope all of this did you some good, any more questions, ask!

Zeb- TMI

The way I play Mina ... well she has many opposite traits than myself. Most of it is annoying stereotypical traits I have given her(I admit it!), at first she was just my 'fun' character. So many gravitated toward her and she got so involved in the Politics, etc. Yes it's some kind of strange sense of humor playing a woman who would probably annoy the hell out of me if it where RL. What does that say about me Dark? LOL

Thanks Dark for the most interesting information for me to think about and thanks to all those who commented and made me laugh.

Feel free to lock this thread whenever since I have gotten enough information to ponder upon.
