Archers aren't supposed to be strong. They're a support class; just like the bard is supposed to be a support class.
There ain't no historical event of any Archer taking on an Army with his wicked cool arrows - and often times, archers would end up killing their own men purely out of desperation to hinder the enemy that much more.
If you're going to be a normal Archer, then that's what you're facing. If you want to take on the world - optimize your performance by imbueing magic.
Makes perfect sense to me.

Sure. In numbers. If you can cloak the sky in arrows you're going to win any battle. But an Archer alone isn't really all that effective.

To my own knowledge, the amount of points in the spot skill also determines the range the enemy can see you at, so if you have a higher spot range than the enemy has, you can hit one and attract just that enemy to you, or that one and some enemy standing adjacent to it. At least, it was the way the official campaign was possible to be accomplished with an archer character. Two different AI's. The Peacock wrote: Archers aren't supposed to be strong. Makes perfect sense to me. Thats because you have your mouth firmly entrenched around Elven advantage . You already get arrow enhancement. You don't need the extra goodies from the ammunition especially given that the basic Fighter/AA with 11 levels hits a whole AB tier higher than a fighter of equal level. With better than fighter damage. From range. And on-hits.

I have 2 PCs that can solo and are entirely ranged based: Ascalon relied upon only his crossbow and hoping there were shadows around in dungeons. Save for one time about a year ago in Edonil where he was told to take up a shortspear or get whipped, he keeps to his crossbow. ((Granted I did burn a few DCs on him for XP and Gold, but 25 of those levels came from high end traps and riddling enemies with bolts.)) Toby: Halfling armed with a sling and grenade weapons from levels 1-10 and then solely with a sling from levels 10-30. He has next to no talent in hiding unless he does so using a specially crafted camo suit that only truly benefits him in forest areas. ((He also uses a ''Whoopin' Chair'' now if forced into melee, but that came post-level 30, as did throwing bits of cake.)) If I can do that without the AA arrows and oodles of great longbows to choose from and special abilities as well, then I bet anyone can for I have never been the greatest of "grinders"

Makes perfect sense to me. So as we're citing historical president, does that mean we can, IG, kill our party members and get away with it? I mean, it's historical, after all. sorry, couldn't resist.

Do that with your archer! DO EEET! Do that with your assassin too when you roll a 1 on attack, 'accidentally' sneak attack your party member's warrior, then loot him for 'raise scrolls' >_> You'd be surprised what you get away with IC if you aren't an arse about it OOCly and ask nicely!
