DnD skill system just is that stupid, just like their attribute system, equipment system and combat system. Its best to enjoy their fluidity and to avoid thinking about their implications.

A language system is not part of this video game and its rules, so I don't see your point. Because some things in NWN/D&D are retarded, we should voluntarily embrace additional stupidity?

Because some things in NWN/D&D are retarded, we should voluntarily embrace additional stupidity? The conversation is about whether a specific system should become part of the rules. (The local rules, not the game's rules, granted.) And in the ruleset we're playing under, people with lots of levels are better at things than people with few levels. I agree that it's not particularly reflective of how real life works, but it does have other advantages: It's simple, it's unambiguous, it's not dependent on the honor system (which, as we know, rarely works).

For gods sake no. Can people not just write this in their bios... I fail to see the purpose of this thread. If you know language X Y Z then you know it, no need to make a thread.

I think its quite a relevant bump with Terra's testing of languages yesterday. Though I think Terra allready cooked up a formula (1 + 1 per base int modifier + 1 per 15 lore)
I fail to see why would someone know which languages my character knows by looking at them? With Terra's new system you cant know more languages then your maximum anyway (I hope)
The only question I have is: Does the job linguist influence maximum languages known?

The purpose is that some players wrote down their languages a long time ago, and now they can use this thread to remember which ones. It helped me. This is not IC thread, it's entirely OOC.

It is not that hard to find the purpose of this thread, if you had looked, Svensk. Dark Immolation wrote: I am creating this thread as something similar to the "Waiver" thread to be used as a reference. This is in no way to be official, and it wouldn't really matter if it was, but it allows people to point to this thread when they are accused of metagaming a language. Pretty much you can say "Hey, I've already said my PC know's this language, I didn't just claim it out of the blue." Also, this thread is 3 years old, and as such existed long before we even hand an inkling of a mechanical language system. It serves its purpose with or without one. As well, no thank you, I will not be putting my PCs languages in their bio, so others know what languages not to speak around them OoCly.
