I don't think anyone's having difficulties believing that. Rather, we're curious to know why exactly this is so, both the In-Character explanation and the game design perspective. "It just is" isn't a reason, nor does it make for a very interesting or entertaining conversation.

I think the whole "mystery of the Underdark" explanation works pretty well for me. It's just one of those things that happened over the centuries and centuries of separation from their surface cousins and exposure to something or another that is only present in the UD.

It's a curiosity how certain underdark races evolved more then others. For example as far as subrace natural bonuses go, Svirfs and Drow are far more powerful then Duergars and Orogs. I wonder why that is.

Humans get an extra feat at level 1, that is a HUGE bonus when most commoners/ all animals are level 1ish

And have you ever seen first lvl commoner vs housecat
Goes only marginally better than first lvl wizard vs house cat.

I can't believe the radiation thing, because look at the russians. Did they gain radiation resistance? Noooo. and I doubt a race of elves would be able to get resistence let alone survive if For some unknown reason the cave they lived in radiated Lethal levels of the weave.. sorry if this seems late to the others..

It's not nuclear radiation, it's magical radiation.
When was the last time you saw a bunch of Ukrainians exposed to magical radiation? We're not talking alpha and beta particles along with gamma rays.

and i thought that amia was supposed realistic when it comes to these things, realistic fantasy.. and why the hell would eating mushrooms give you spell resistence up the a**?

they have spell resistace because, even though Lloth is a bitch, she doesn't want her race to die off to dust, because she'd lose her power. so she gave them magical spell resistance to protect them from the mighty high magic using elves...sounds reasonable to me

1) Amia did not make spell resistance, we're trying to explain it
2) Faezerness (or however you explain it) is only 'radiation' for lack of a better word
