I did not want to create a discussion about the throwaway characters in the other thread, but...
Throwaway characters are boring. Just like the new ensign in Star Trek you will not bother about a random hin that gets kidnapped or dies. You will not bother both IC and OOC, its just meh.
There is no sensible drama unless a player really sacrifices a character that is known and has knee deep relationships within the Dale, or Ultrinnan on the other side.
When my urdlen gnome was caught and interrogated I could sense the "what a waste, the next day he'll come around the corner again" feeling. Some hins even said "let him go" IC because you know as player you can't do anything serious because the other day the bad guy comes around the corner again anyway, despite the fact that my gnome would slaughter all of Bendir without batting an eye, if he could.
I shooted Bobo a tell that I am ok with nasty things and permadeath, and after he got killed and dumped in the waters of the skull crags I decided to let him rest in peace because its silly to do the same routine over and over, and it was a fitting end for that character.
When you do horrible and nasty things with a character and get caught and killed, face the consequences and think about it a bit. The same goes for drow raids and whatnot, if you get caught... uhuh bad luck. But I can count the players who'd give up a character on my fingers I suppose.
TBH I see nothing wrong with attacking the Dale. Oh no, Hin are busy? You just got busier.
To be honest, the Dale is not quite busy enough. That's why I fall asleep on the bench so often.

An NPC militia died in the line of duty the other day. The Dale honoured him and he's remembered as a hero. I even remember his name, Mott, even though my character has never once interacted with him, or knew he existed until his death. Bendir Dale is not Cordor, not Winya, not Ultrinnan. We have stronger ties than how shallow you generalise it to be.

Not sure where the fear of death comes from. You get raised now for free via the PVP tool. So there's no excuse to bitch about that.
I think Frey's completely right. People hate to lose, so they make up lame excuses to avoid death. As someone who plays two characters who constantly tend to open there big mouths and get beaten senseless, get over it. It's not that bad geez.
I personally hate to lose against monsters more then PC's lol. Usually because the monsters use some cheap glitch to win.

You can't be too busy as far as RP events go.

How many of you have been part of a DM event that HAD NO ANNOUNCEMENT, yet within the space of three clicks of a mouse everyone and their grandmother has suddenly "Wandered into the area" or "heard some noise and came to investigate" when they've never stepped foot in the place?
You want to know who causes plots to become mucked? You do. Yes, that's right, I'm pointing my bone finger at you. If it doesn't apply, then let it fly, but the reason I bring this up is, IMHO, it's the core issue.
How right you are. QFE.

Firstly, I would like to express my intense hatred for Dahlya and all her ideas.... lol jk
I don't see a problem with the idea. I do, however, think Hin players should be told when, if not warned about around when it's going to happens so they don't feel "left out" and all that. Once everything is planned out of course.
I agree with Tormak, just because the Dale has a crap load of problems doesn't mean more RP isn't welcome. Bring it on!

I disagree. You're probably just not there as often as a lot of the rest of us to be knee deep in the mud of the different conflicts and RP going on. The Dale is TONS busy ATM.
The drow could have had different reasons for attacking (haven't been around, so I don't know what happened). But frankly, they don't need a reason that would lead a good aligned character to do something similar. Good people might launch an attack to save someone, to prevent evil et cetera.
A drow raiding party might happen because:
- a drow faction is hoarding treasure
- by command of a priestess because she got a sensation while communing with her patron deity
- recon mission style aka "how powerful are our next-door neighbours?"
- some silly grudge that everyone else forgot about
- a strange hatred towards the selected race (halflings are darn creepy, you know, and should be weeded out)
- and the list goes on....
Just because you do not know the reason, it doesn't mean that your fellow Amians are bad people. Enjoy the IC hatred.
On the point of a faction having better builds and will thus therefore win, I always thought it gave an excuse for the weaker side to search out for allies? I actually think it'll make the dale a RP hub. Or an even busier one anyways.
A plot/event like this has potential to pull the rest of the server in imo. Kinda silly it gets killed cos of some pessimists.

I agree with what was written there, esp. the bold/underlined part.
BUT...
I URGE....*desperately* so.....for drow who want to do a raid, to ~please~ make more of such an rp opportunity than a "huge group of drow runs up and sacks town," event.
Have some lead-up. Send a scout party, who's goal is to map out the current positions of the militia. Hin-nap someone, and get info from them, that might *hint* at the fact their might be an attack coming (and allow some time for rp to happen around this hinted chance).
After all....a one-shot event isn't going to draw a lot of rp, except for mostly during the event, and perhaps the odd comment after it's done. Not for the Hin, nor the Drow. Make more of such an opportunity. A raid that has a week+ of lead up, before the grand finale attack, would probably be a lot more fun for everyone involved.
ie/ Bottom of the previous page: hin got kidnapped and drow gleaned info from said hin. Things *like* that, are ideal lead-up. Especially if the people involved are willing to NOT god-mode themselves to having no failures, no weaknesses.

amen and ive been apart of a few failed raids(tormak saw one!). I look at some of the plots that have happened and compare them with the raids that ive been apart of. What the drow need are a tons more planning. There are a few players who do excellent planning and one in particular i had a blast doing her little mission that was devised. take a week even longer to plan these things and submit to the dms for feedback.

No way man! That's the beauty of chaos! You never know what you're going to get! I don't really see Drow making huge and elaborate plans where everyone actually falls in line.

I could go into a debate on chaos versus order, but i wont . As players we should put more effort into planning these things out instead of "hey lets do a raid". As i said there are a couple who do but the entire drow base should pitch in. it would go a long way to making these things work on a regular basis. Furthermore as drow, they may be chaotic, but they have order. The drow military are comprised of warriors who've trained all their lives, and aren't the types to go into battle without formulating an assured victory.
