I'm a longterm fan of the irony when you buy one Merchant Ring from Gypsy and use it to buy the second one cheaper. I bet she feels silly.

i personally recomend keeping a small item like a gem or something to scale shopkeeper prices. I've seen my gem go from 875 each to 360 from the same shop, so I only sell when its like 850 and above.

Sure, it really only increases your money by chump change increments, but it adds up.

And pay attention to who you are selling too... if you haven't noticed already, there are several NPCs that have a cap on the gold they dish out for an item no matter just how ubber that item might be. Nope sorry, not going to pay more then 5,000 gold. That will cut into profits quick in a hurry.

*cough* There is one free Merchant's Ring floating around once per reset. I don't know how many of those things I have. (Edit) Overall, not just on one character.

Loki is approaching 4 million soon. And I haven't gone hunting in somehting like 3 months, so you know it isn't from farming bosses. Almost all my money is made completly through RP. I started up a business (a NOT particularly profitable one, btw) selling booze for rather small amounts in the grand scheme of things, catered to weddings for my first 150k, sold at a few events for 550k, did a quest for a perfect mythal that sold for 1.5 million, got my widget to make my OWN brews for 15 DC's, people liked them so much that on top of making close to 500k in a month with up front sales, i've made 2 million on bulk orders to various factions, made a few more profitable 100% RP deals for another 1.5 million, and recently ran an ALL DAY LONG auction event where I sold players items, took 5% and gave them the rest, and from that 5% alone, I made 1.3 million. Out of Loki's entire history I think i've spent about 1.2 million and im now coming up on a record high for me of 4 million. This is PROOF that you can make big cash with RP means and no farming or mythalling and resellification of items.

I have my first character with about a million GP in gold at the same time now. And I found the magic formula to infinite gold: summons. I guess that means our summons are indeed a bit overpowered...

This is gonna sound silly... But Lyle had around 250k at max level a few months ago, before I got a manual rebuild, which ended up bringing my gold stores to around 2 million by the end of it. So, basic adventuring is quite profitable, if you already have the stuff you need. I would say if you're poor, and planning to get a DC rebuild, go manual rebuild, suck a few levels, and inherit all your good, old equipment earlier than you probably got it.

Since Horgar set up that shop, he's done three sessions and made 150K, which, is not much compared to farming. Mostly its because people seemed to expect prices to be what they sell the same loot for to Hilrash.

Until they go to buy that same loot from Hilrash and find its at least 30% more than what Horgar is selling it for. Later that day, I took Horgar Loot farming and he made 200K in the same amount of time.

It was then that I realised that most people don't have more than 20K on them at the lower end of the market and the epics have uber gear already.

So what to do about it? Horgar will have to either farm the lower loot bins and sell cheaper items OR just go complete customisation items crafted. Overall though, setting up a shop doesn't rake in much coinage compared to loot farming. Still, it beats standing in Cordor Square and you meet FAR more people in a short period of time as EVERYONE goes to Hilrash and then usually stops off at Horgar's...

In the same period, he's also had 4 mythal crafting requests....very interesting.

Amia's critters drop loot from a series of sets of gear. There are five tiers, oft categorized as +1 through to +5 (Epic loot). Whenever a creature dies, upon the 5% chance of loot also kicking in, a random item out of the appropriate set of gear is dropped into a Treasure item.

Most bosses drop from +5, the weakest enemies drop from +1, ETC.

The chance of a creature dropping loot isn't a static 5% any more, I think. It was changed to 3% + 1%/party member.

that means if the whole server of 75 people teams up is the drop rate 78%? Woo! Loot for everyone! ^^

Not to forget that you can easily kill the giants then...

I think even 4+partymembers % (ie: 5-10%). You only get this bonus if you are inside a valid party, just like you get XP.

1. Be an epic caster

Seriously, you have basically 0 expenses, and you can get summons to kill everything for you. "Oh no! My efreet died! Oh well, I can summon another dozen or so, doesn't matter"

Then you can go soloing basically anywhere, so you get high gold and all the loot. It takes no effort whatsoever for a caster to get a million gold, even with the best stuff money can buy in their posession they should still have at least half a mil.

GS isn't broken by Summon IX's, although as an epic caster you've really no reason to GS-jockey anyway; you can pace yourself and string a spellbook out to last all day if you only cast twice per spawn then do the Premo+Mestil Circular Dance of AoO and drag them past your summons and dominates.

A couple of Firebrands, Horrid Wilting, Delayed Blast, or any of the disablers like Neg Burst, Colour Spray and Sunburst will see the bottom of the +4 bin either dead or inactive, or so short on HP that they're only be able to hit you once and Mestil's will kill them. Similarly a couple of AoO's from your pals and they're toast too. Or if you're a Necromancer, Wails will drop half a spawn.

However, the kings of GP/hour are Devcritting Weaponmasters; when they finally get tough enough to survive it alone without chugging Heals all the time they can tear through the Spires at an absurd pace.

The people that tend to be permanently broke are low-Sneak SD's; they need to spend loads on scrolls

The thread might be old but after being asked a few questions in game about appraise gear while searching for that blasted chart which showed which NPCs react to which race *still hasn't found it*, it looked like the thread needed a dusting off.

Make a druid. Seriously. My old chap has more money than he knows what to do with, all from just leveling. this might also be because druid items arent really expensive, and that druids dont really need that much equipment. Usually pooch does all the job for them anyway, and they can run around naked in their barkskin, calling down the odd lightening or flamestrike while pooch tears everything in sight to pieces. then its just to pick up the loot, and you are are a stone rich hippie.

Learn the market. Loot drops sell to vendors for some gold, but if you know the value of the items you pick up, you may be able to net more gold for that item than you would have if you just sold it over the counter.

Every loot bin has something of worth to someone. Blank scrolls, naturally, are a good seller. Pages of Transmutation can also be fairly profitable early on, as can mythals. The randomly generated wands that you can pick up can also be very useful to someone, depending on the wand's power(s). Same goes for the randomly generated spell books.

Apart from those, discovering needs within the PC market can also help you earn some cash. Things that only drop in loot bins (as in, cannot be purchased as regular stock from a store) will be good sellers in many cases. It would be up to you to determine what's hot and what's not, but that's half the fun! Combine that with the amazing merchant boxes located in most major cities, and selling your belongings is made super easy and profitable!

If you really want to get in with the merchants, you can also buy people's loot that they don't want (for more than they would get at another store, in most cases) and then hang onto it until the right buyer comes around, then sell it for more than you bought it for. Congratulations! Now you're a merchant and made money through the judicious expenditure of time and knowledge! That's the -best- way to earn money!

Play a PC merchant today!

I get bored with it. I mean what is the challenge of hunting if nothing really threatens you? My one mage would seriously carry 10chairs with him walk to a spawn point sit down and let his buffed summon, dominted creature, familur own almost everything with no risk of death. Want to make gold fast be a level 30mage with epic spell focus necro and enchantment with extended mass haste tada easily 1million in 4hrs. . .

Don't be the healer.

Always track loot turns in hunts.

Never give up a loot.

Bed to be allowed to skip traps as loots when you get stuck with them.

Watch for unnoticed loots and ninja.

....

I've had the same PC for easily a year; Weston, and I kept his gold on him over a rebuild as well. He only finally made 1 million two months ago.

Don't ask me the tricks.

As a caster multi-classed with rogue or some other sneaky class, lobbing a fireball at a weak group of enemies from stealth is one way to drastically reduce the number of foes in the first round. The less of them that get to attack in the first round, the less hit points or stoneskin you lose, and the less healing potions you'll drink.

Of course you can't actually cast from stealth, as soon as you start you'll be visible. But it takes a few seconds for anything to react to your sudden appearance, and a few seconds is all you need to blow them to smithereens.

Usually pooch does all the job for them anyway, and they can run around naked in their barkskin, calling down the odd lightening or flamestrike while pooch tears everything in sight to pieces. then its just to pick up the loot, and you are are a stone rich hippie.

And don't forget Elemental swarm.. Just Elemental Swarm.

That thing tears through everything up to Brog barbarians with ease.
